I Flew from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Newark, New Jersey straight to State Surplus Auto Sales. I paid cash and was in and out in less than an hour. Everyone I got the chance to interact with was amazing and they guaranteed everything should be good on the vehicle. Even offered to replace a water pump that may go out soon, which hasn’t yet. They put new tires on my car, cleaned the whole car and even replaced a missing passenger Side mirror while I was signing paperwork. Not to mention a full synthetic oil change. I drove from New York to Tucson Arizona and have put 6000 miles on it in the first month and have had NO ISSUES.I bought it with about 170,000 miles on it. I’m actually considering buying a truck from them next month as they do offer incomparable financing that is designed to work with EVERYONE. I got a car I never thought I’d see myself in and I appreciate everything they’ve done and will continue to do. Don’t listen to the bad reviews and a car is a car, do your research there’s always risk but don’t put that on the dealer. Everyone was honest and helpful and I’m forever thankful. I just bought a Ford Explorer for my son and Carmen and Eric were very open about the cars and explained the situation with the cars we were interested in. They took care of any questions we had and made sure we were satisfied before we left. They made sure if there are any problems they will take care of it and they gave a year warranty. Carmen and Eric were great to deal with.

Purchased a Ford Taurus in 2017 and it has been the best vehicle I've ever had. I enjoy it thoroughly and often, when driving, especially early in the morning to work, I think of two gentlemen who worked with me...papers, signatures, insurance, etc. and how helpful they were. I hark back to being on that lot, with my old Jaguar, which I traded in with many many miles on, and the thrill I had driving back from Newark to PA in a police car. I came with little and I left with a lot. I am now 76 years old and if I live long enough to get another car I will drive from Wilkes-Barre to that lot where my driving dreams came true. I have had absolutely zero problems. I thank my lucky stars for the day I walked on the Auto Sales lot back then. I recall giving one of the fellows a $50 tip I was so happy. That GUY should have been given @150 for the way he assisted me. I came a pauper and left King Of The Road.

This is the second vehicle I’ve bought from them. I understand the risks you take when you buy a salvage car, there’s no warranty. This one broke down 1,200 miles from my house unfortunately. I had it towed to a dealership in Miami where it sat for threes weeks waiting for parts.
So I decided to give Carmine a call and let him know what happened as I’ve only had this one (2020 explorer/interceptor) for seven months.
His exact words were: Why didn’t you call me sooner? Where is it? Hold on for one minute. After about two minutes he got back on with me and says: “I’ve arranged for it to be picked up tomorrow (Thursday), it’ll be here by Saturday.”!
It was fixed by Tuesday morning!! Transmission cooler line (because they’ve been going bad, wasn’t even broken), driveshaft replaced, and rear differential completely replaced!!
Just charged me for labor and shipping. I still saved over $2,000!!
This guy goes above and beyond what he has to. This is how business is done & I’m looking forward to buying my next one already.

Let’s preface this by saying I waited a year before writing this review. Last July I bought a Salvage Title 2018 Ford Police Interceptor Utility with 61,000 Miles. I wanted to see how the car held up under all kinds of weather. I’ve driven it through torrential downpours, heavy snow and in high heat. Initially the fact that the car was a salvage was very off-putting considering this was my first vehicle.

After a year, and 15,000 new miles, however, I can say that the car has preformed incredibly well despite a few minor issues. My only complaint is that a few months after buying the car, one of the headlights gave out. I realized that both of the headlights were not OEM and were cheaper aftermarket units. After replacing the broken one (with the genuine ford model), I’ve had no further issues. About two months ago the transmission oil cooler was punctured; something I assume has nothing to do with the fact that it was a salvage vehicle. Following that the shift interlock solenoid decided to quit, but that too seems to just be an electrical part breaking due to heavy use. The right strut also feels a bit off.

The NY State Salvage inspection process is a pain, but that was explained to me in detail by Carmen before I bought the car.

I drive the car almost daily and could not be happier. I’d had a number of people warn me that it was a bad idea to buy from State Surplus, but besides a few very minor issues, I can confidently say that they were wrong. I use the car for my work as a volunteer EMT, and it is dependable and allows me to respond quickly to incidents.

To conclude, I recommend State Surplus to anyone looking for a FPIU - but like any used car, just make sure to get it checked by a mechanic, do a test drive and get a carfax report before driving it off the lot.

Purchased a 2011 Chevy Tahoe from these guys that was a New York State police vehicle. All I can say is WOW. The truck is in great shape and they painted it and changed the lights prior to me buying it. The transaction was easy and it was great talking to these two guys. Real gentlemen.
