As an Indigenous artist and author, I recently participated in two artist receptions at the Perkins Center in Collingswood, New Jersey. These events were nothing short of magical, a testament to the power of art to transcend boundaries and connect us to our shared humanity.
From the moment I stepped into the gallery, a sense of warmth and belonging enveloped me. The walls were adorned with my artwork, each reflecting the rich tapestry of my cultural heritage and personal experiences. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the anticipation of sharing my work with a diverse audience.
As the reception unfolded, it became clear that this was more than just an art exhibition; it celebrated Indigenous artistry and fellowship. Visitors from all walks of life engaged with my work, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their connections to Indigenous art and culture.
The event was also a testament to Sharon Leonard Kiefer's incredible work at Perkins Art Center. Sharon's vision and dedication to showcasing Indigenous art were evident in every reception aspect. She created a space where artists like myself feel valued and respected and where a wider audience can see and appreciate our work.
The reception at Perkins Art Center was a truly transformative experience for me. It reminded me of the profound impact that art can have on our lives, and it reaffirmed my commitment to using my platform to amplify the voices of Indigenous artists and communities.
I encourage everyone to visit the Perkins Center in Collingswood and experience the magic of Indigenous art. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you, Perkins Art Center, for providing a sanctuary for Indigenous art and culture.

Beautiful small factory building turned into rustic gallery and classroom spaces. Its a great place to see an art show and take art classes for kids and adults.

This is the place to be if you are an artist or Crafter. Run and make an appointment to see the building and the classes. They have Clay, glass, mosaic, art, dance and music. This is a Hidden Gem that needs to be exposed to all people in the tri-state area. I cannot say enough about the center, the employees, the instructors, and the classes.

I was excited to sign up for an adult class here. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the instructor and the content was not as advertised. Perkins do not seem to be open to hearing feedback from their students unless it is praise. I sent them an email with an explanation of what I didn’t like about the class, and a request for a refund for the remaining classes. I did not receive a reply within a week, so I called to check in. The woman I spoke to said she was responsible for the classes and she would look for my email. She indicated that she was surprised and that no one else had complained. (Not true, my friend also asked for a refund, same issues as me.) She said she would find my email and reply. She did not reply, but did eventually refund the remaining classes. My friend also had to call, and also got a lot of pushback on the feedback. Honestly, it’s just close-minded to say something like “no one else has complained”. Maybe 100 other people took your class and got something wonderful out of it. However, THAT WAS NOT MY EXPERIENCE. You should be receptive to hearing about MY experience and using that information to improve the experience of all of your future students. I really wanted to support this venue and have a great experience there. If the management had been more receptive, I would have given them another chance and tried a different class.
