How quaint! It is a very large motel with so much history. Our room had a balcony that we so enjoyed. It's NOT a new building it was built in 1928 but it has all modern things that we needed. The bed was so very comfortable and the room was very clean. Nice quiet night very nice and polite staff. Will definitely stay again when in Topeka! Thank you!

Staff was great. We actually had the room for two nights, went somewhere else for a night, and ended up going back. There were a couple different issues we encountered, like the TV didn't work, and a billing thing with my card, but the five stars remain because the way the Staff was right on it, whatever it was, and got it handled, hospitable and upbeat. Good people, good place. Unique little hotel, and balconys with every room, I think.

Best hotel in Topeka. Rooms are large and very clean. It's an old building and pretty cool, they have done a good job of keeping it up, most buildings that old are falling apart and stink, but not this place, it's clean and there are no bad odors. Management is great, they went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed. Staff was also great and very friendly, they made us feel welcome. The room was like a small apartment, had a kitchenette, living room area with couches, TV, and desk, and then a bedroom with doors to close it off. I really liked this places, it will be my first choice whenever I'm in town.

Very historical feel, only four blocks from the Capitol building, a great experience but not a safe area in the evenings. The hotel was once an apartment complex and the rooms have that appearance. A big, comfortable bed. The bathroom has plenty of counter space. The best part is the room is complete with a kitchenette; makes one feel at home. The breakfast was included and above average.

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Senate. We were greeted pleasantly by a very helpful lady at the front desk. Breakfast was more than we expected; omelets were good and the selection of breakfast foods was generous. Our suite was really nice, and for an older hotel, they have really taken pains to update in the baths. Toiletries were ample and of a good quality, too. Bottom line....great price for a wonderful stay. We’d definitely stay here again.

This place is really cool! Bonnie was the sweetest and is very friendly and let us check in and out late since we were traveling across the country and offered us a AAA discount. The room also had a balcony and small kitchen nook. We tried to stay again a week later on our way back across the country but got caught in some tornadoes and they let me cancel my reservation at no charge.

This hotel is looking a little run down at this point. For example, there was a large patch of cracked paint on the inside surface of the door to our room. It needs sanding and repainting. However, the room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the outside porch area. The location was perfect for our needs. So- while it could use some updating, it was clean and comfortable.

This was such a unique place to stay. Our room had a walk out, covered balcony with French doors! We also had a small room with a pull out chair for a bed for my daughter. Different look which made it fun but very nice! The breakfast was amazing. It had waffles, fruit, eggs, biscuits and gravy, muffins, donuts, juices coffe cereal and more! My girls loved it! If we ever need a stay in Topeka Kansas we will look no further than this hotel!

The hotel is amazing, and you wouldn't think so at the low price. I paid $70 for a last minute booking in this room. It was really large and cozy. There were 3 rooms and one bed. If I needed a place in that area again, I'd be thrilled to return. The hotel opened in 1928 and the building has been well kept.
The only gripe I have is that the desk staff seem to be deaf.

It's a nice hotel. I wouldn't call it "luxury", but again, we're talking about Topeka. There was a uniqueness and old charm to the place. The room was big, and staff was extremely courteous. We did not try the breakfast, as we wanted to eat at Hanover Pancake House. Only complaint I have is the people across the hall from us enjoyed slamming their door and they had very loud kids. Nonetheless, would stay there again.

Lovely vintage hotel! My husband and I originally reserved a room here just as a rest point on our way to Colorado. We chose the hotel because it had good reviews and we needed somewhere comfortable for us and our two boys. After only twenty minutes of being here we decided to extend our trip and book another night. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the man whom greeted us at the counter (jeremy) was very helpful in showing us where we could find good places to eat. I was amazed at them having temper pedic mattresses in their king suites and was smitten with the decor and vibe we got from the room. Our room had a lovely balcony as well as a walk in closet, desk and kitchenette. Although the kitchenette did not have dishes to use it did have a table, sink, microwave and mini fridge. I would definitely make a special trip just to stay here again. If you are looking for the Hilton look elsewhere. This is a lovely journey back in time from the lovely architecture down to the old fashioned keys and is very much like going to grandmas house.

Great hotel and amazing staff! The custodian who's name I have forgotten was very nice and so was the manager, she was very sweet! It was very interesting o learn about the history of the hotel, and the stories other visitors share about there experience! It was over all a very good time and we are planning our trip back very soon since its been about a year since we visited.

Great place with lots of character! Not your run of the mill standard hotel. Kirsten (hope I spelled that right) was amazing! Very helpful in anything I needed, even recommendations of places to eat. If you need complete silence...well, this would not be the place for you. As I said earlier, it has character. That means it's an older building and there are some noises due to the floor creaking. Didnt effect my stay in the least! Truly a great experience!

This is my favorite hotel in Topeka! Beautifully decorated, comfortable with hot chocolate! The staff is very understanding, very accommodating. And then there's breakfast with a 2 pm checkout (if they're not too busy the next day). I love this place!

I will not write a nice review about this hotel. I don't want this hotel to be known by many people. This is Topeka's best kept secret, as written on the entrance. Should be treated as such.....Do not read further....If you really care to know, here's what happened: a family of 5, after 13 hours of driving, spent a wonderful resting night in a quaintly prepared two bed rooms plus a living room. My daughter even liked the pictures on the wall. After 8.5 hours of sweet sleep, we realized that we overslept for the breakfast. When we rushed to the dining hall, nice omelettes, bacon and French toast and all the other usual breakfast stuff were waiting for us. Having all of that while looking over the State Capitol was certainly the least usual part, though. All the staff were so great. After all that, I felt so guilty to have paid what I paid. Is it ok to pay this little? How could the owner keep everything at this quality for the price we paid? Ohhhh, there must be hidden agenda. I'm going to have to come back here to find out what they are.

Wow this is the place to be. If you want a great hotel, that's got a bit of history, that looks like a Castle, and has an A/C under $100/night for a 2 bed room. This is the place to visit. You will not be disappointed.
2 queen beds
Large flat screen TV in the "living room" and a pull-out couch with a recliner. Fridge, Microwave Oven, and a Coffee maker (pretty standard). Has a smaller TV (not flat screen) in the master bedroom. Nice shower. Has a BALCONY!!! Plenty of outlets, if that's important to you. For the price, I give this 5 stars. I've been to more expensive places, and they're just not as good. This is no marriott by any means, but this doesn't cost $250/night either.
The staff was courteous and unbelievably friendly!!! At one point I asked for an extra towel, the guy said I can go back to my room and he'd bring it right up. Two minutes later I get my towels at the door, and the guy apologizes for taking too long. Are you kidding me, it was only 2 minutes. That was just great, I am definitely staying here in the future!!!
Free breakfast, exercise room, hot tub and pool table!!!

We spent 4 nights at the Senate Suites this week, and loved it!
We stayed in a one bedroom suite with our 18 year old daughter, and there was ample room for all of us. The suite has a bedroom seperated from a living area by french doors, and the kitchenette is a seperate room as well. The bedroom and living area are each as large as many hotel rooms I have stayed in. We always take an air mattress when our kids will be sleeping on a sofa bed, but my daughter was comfortable sleeping on the sofabed. The bathroom has doors into both the bedroom and living area.
We were on the third floor and our balcony had a beautiful view of the capitol less than 2 blocks away.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were there for a softball tournament, and when we went to the losers bracket I talked to the gentleman at the front desk to see about late checkout if we lost again and had to go home a day early. He was very willing to work with us, but we kept winning so we stayed the fourth night anyway!
Breakfast was standard continental breakfast with either bacon, sausage, and eggs, or biscuits and gravy.
As several have said, don't mistake this hotel for "The Hilton" where rooms are gutted and remodeled every 10 years or so. The hotel is nearly to 90 years old, but the carpet is new, and everything is freshly painted and clean. This hotel is a neat piece of history where you can take the whole family for a great price.

If you are the type who is not comfortable in anything less than the Club Level at a Ritz Carlton, just stop reading now. My wife and I certainly enjoy luxury from time to time, but we also love to try classic older hotels that may not have all the latest touches but have real charm. The Senate Luxury Suites in Topeka fits in the category. Built in the early 20th century to cater to Kansas state legislators, the suites are designed for comfortable extended stays. We had what amounted to a pretty nice 1 bedroom apartment with a nice size bedroom with a very comfortable queen bed, large living area with nice size flatscreen TV, and good size kitchen with a small breakfast table for 2, small refrigerator, and microwave, all for about $80 per night! Our room also had a balcony with a great view of the state capital and its copper dome.

The hotel has some unique design features that are really neat. I think the outside is beautiful. It looks like a classic old-world European hotel. The hallway walls have a very deep texture that is so thick and rough looking it almost feels carved from stone. The upper corners of the room doors are cut at angles rather than just squared off. The combination of the thickly textured walls and unusual doors give a feeling like a country cottage. There is a large basement where morning breakfast is serve. The basement also has a small sitting area and a large laundry room that also houses the ice machine and a pool table. One of my favorite spots was very large lounge are in another part of the basement that appears to be little used. It has several seating areas with comfortable chairs and sofas and a bar. One can almost imagine legislators enjoying drinks and cigars while playing pool or cards and negotiating bills under consideration.

All of the staff with whom we had contact were friendly, courteous, and helpful. The included breakfast was actually quite good, even the coffee! The hotel was clean and well-maintained.

I highly recommend The Senate Luxury Suites for anyone who visits Topeka, whether you enjoy classic hotels or just a good value!

The Senate Suites are right smack downtown Topeka, but hidden in a side street. I don't think many Topekans know this place is here. My friends and I call it a hidden Gem. They have fantastic rooms that may not be totally modern, but are clean, and very cozy. Our suite had separate rooms for the kitchenette/dining, a main room, a bedroom with a door, and a bathroom off the bedroom. The staff is very gracious and kind and we were without need at all times. If you have a chance, this place is where you should stay!
