An interesting historical site built during the Sioux uprising. Although it never saw any actual fighting it stands as a testimony to frontier life in rural Iowa. A great little stop for a Sunday drive in rural Iowa.

It was neat to come across this historical fort. I was recently reading a book on Iowa’s history that described some of the conflicts between early settlers and native Americans. Glad that the door was not locked was able to check out the inside as well.

This is a quiet and well kept piece of history. I was surprised the door was unlocked, and it was encouraged for you to walk in. It would be nice if the wood plaque was updated to make it easier to read.

Very peaceful. I love seeing the bees & the butterflies in the prairie flowers in the field next to the fort.

This stone building brings the essence of the Iowa settlers in their conflicts with the First Nations into the present.

So fort severson was a necessity be cause Minnesota hung the 38. Wasn't Brigham young's followers being hung and stoned for their religion just down the cedar river and a couple of great rivers nobody knew the names of.
