Harmon's High Chaparall Tavern and Restaurant

Stopped in during a road trip up the Mississippi. This is by far the friendliest place I've ever been. They know everyone by name and they treat you great. Prices here haven't been hit by inflation. Wish this was my local watering hole.

Want to have a drink or something good to eat in a small-town bar that absolutely exudes local authenticity? Whether it's the bargain-priced early morning breakfast, our favorite Friday night fish fry or something in between, just be prepared for everyone turn to see if they know you when you enter. Whether they do or not, pull up a chair or grab an empty stool at the bar and become part of the community. Always a good stop.

Small, not fancy, but a good bar and grill. Has a bar, a few tables (maybe 4), two booths, and a small dinette counter with four or five stools. A mom and daughter, probably the owners, cooked all the food. It was simple and very good. I had the Friday lunch special of goulash (better than it sounds). The other specials were a turkey club and a chicken fried steak. A variety of burgers and sandwiches are available. A fish fry is available for dinner on Fridays. They do have take out. Several people called ahead and then ran into pick up up their food and go. The service was good and everyone was friendly. Bathrooms very clean.

If you're going through New Albin, Iowa, I recommend a stop.

We enjoyed the local mom and pop feel of this restaurant and area. Food was good and very reasonably priced. Even watched Andy Griffith while we ate, lol.

The food is delicious! It's like eating at your Grandma's and your favourite cousin is there helping out. Great service! Everyone knows everyone and we were made to feel very welcome!

This is why you take the back roads when you travel. We got lunch specials. Pork roast with mashed potatoes and green beans and ham and scalloped potatoes with bread and butter. Dessert was peach flip and chocolate chip bar. Everything was excellent and price was very reasonable. Wouldn't hesitate to come back next time we're through.

This is one of those rare places that is still fairly untouched by the modern world. Formica and the 1960s are strong with this place. I'm sure there is a story behind the creepy mannequin and wedding dress that adorns her but we weren't going to go down that rabbit hole this visit. There were even stuffed wild animal mounts because why not? There was an old guy drinking PBR wearing a cowboy hat. In a word this place is perfect.

The absolute best place to eat and drink. If you are anywhere close to this place, it is WELL worth the drive. The food is the best home cooked meals and the service is great. Robin makes you feel right at home!

Robin and Ellie make every visit to this small town bar and resturant feel like a visit with friends. While they do serve the traditional greasy spoon fare you crave, the real shining star is Robin's delicious home cooking. Roast beef and mashed potatoes, chicken gravy over biscuits, even preparing full Thanksgiving dinners. There is always a counter covered in fresh baked goods, and her cinnamon rolls and coffee cake make for delicious treats! If you are looking for small town charm, The High Chap is where you will find it.

Stopped for lunch and a beverage. Got our booze cruise punch ticket punched. Had the special. Hamburger gravy over biscuits. Excellent.
