Mad River Community Hospital

I recently went in for a colonoscopy. Everyone was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I felt like I was in a 5 Star Hotel! I highly recommend them!

Had a friend treated at Mad River Hospital. The nurses on the medical surgical Ward were so kind and caring. Special thanks to Dr Abbassi, who saved his life by rapidly recognizing and correctly diagnosing my friends neurosurgical emergency

Just left the emergency room and everyone there was kind, compassionate and professional. ❤

Arrived late evening on January 4, 2024 from Ohio with a sinus infection. Went to their urgent care office and I was very impressed with the quality of care of the staff and attending doctor. I was in and out ion 2 hours and felt much better the next day. I highly recommend MAD RIVER COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

Everyone I interacted with while at the hospital were very kind, patient and helpful while I navigated a stressful appointment. Thank you to Alexa, intake desk, and Lisa for being so helpful.

In the ER they took excellent and respectful care of me and diagnosed and treated me correctly. A no frills facility except for an excellent tall doctor and 2 excellent nurses. Gave me important info for preventative care. Got my IV in first attempt and no bruising. I was as sick as a dog upon entry. 4 hours later I got discharged in much better shape. They were very good with my very ill roommate too, who had to be medivac'd. I am grateful for their expert no-nonsense care.

My experience with Mad River Hospital has been nothing but wonderful. I had a same day surgery yesterday, and the staff were the most kind, compassionate, and professional people I've ever experienced in the medical field. Dr. Hackett was wonderful, thorough, professional, and extremely nice. My nurse, Tina from same day surgery, was especially fantastic. She was so thorough, patient, kind, and funny. She really made everything a more calm experience for me. She was also great at placing my IV catheter, despite my difficult veins. Overall, I am delighted at the experience I've had with Mad River Hospital and their excellent medical care and service. I will definitely be using them for all my medical needs.

Due to the pandemic the hospital is not fully staffed yet.
The directional signage could be beefed up a bit and could be better.
There is plenty of parking.
The radiology staff is very friendly. The schedulers are always calling people to get them in if someone cancels their appointment.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Was in for a same day surgery and everyone involved was so wonderful to be around. And very comforting and supportive. 10/10. And they've answered all of my follow up questions and even called to check on me today. Wonderful staff. And such a quiet environment compared to the other local hospitals.

I’ve had to take my son to the ER here twice and my daughter once. The first time my son had split his forehead open. We drove for an hour and then checked into emergency. We went into triage and the nurse could see he was hurt but in good spirits and not bleeding substantially. We waited for a couple minutes and were taken back to a room which was clean and had several people come in to decide between stitches and glue after he had a good cleaning and was checked out for a concussion or deep injuries. After the cut was closed up, which seemed pretty much painless for him, we were sent on our way. Overall a good experience and all staff was on point.
The second experience at Mad River Hospital was also pleasant. We came into the ER to have our son and daughter looked at for a rash that popped up really quickly. We were seen in triage as soon as we walked in. After waiting for 10-15 mins we were taken back to a room to have the kiddos checked out. Several nurses came and checked them out to get a few opinions as there are a lot of unvaccinated people in the community and there were several possibilities as to what they thought could be wrong. They decided to do a throat swab to check for strep and that’s what it turned out to be. We don’t usually like to go to the ER for stuff like this but it would’ve taken weeks to get an appointment somewhere else. Both times we’ve had to take our kids in the staff has been friendly and professional. They made sure to take all the necessary steps to ensure our kids were getting the care they needed. Recommended.

If it weren’t easy to mistake Mad River Hospital as Mad River Emergency Room, I’m certain they’d have a higher rating. Dr **** from the 6 Rivers Surgical Group came in on his day off to relieve me of serious pain, despite my ER doctor saying I did not need surgery yet. I feel a lot better now, and I want to thank the whole staff with the surgical division for having a strong conscience and being willing to save my butt from easily level 8+ pain. Thank you.

Incredible Hospital with caring staff ... of course, overworked, welcome to todays Healthcare. As a retired nurse, receiving care as an inpatient upon several occasions I can personally attest to the fact this Hospital and staff literally saved my life. Alert and responsive from all Departments including diligent House Keepers.

Had a 4 day stay here when I had a bowel obstruction. I was treated with care, the nurses kept me in high spirits, and I felt very looked after. Competent staff and comfortable rooms. The emergency room can be a little slow but overall, my experience staying here felt very homey and Surrena was a fantastic nurse. Very knowledgeable and comforting. Also got a free goodie bag.

I spent one week at Mad River Hospital, after Colorectal Cancer Surgery, and this is one of the best experiences I have ever had in any hospital. Everyone was super friendly and treated me with ultra care, friendliness and dare I say it, LOVE. Hey, I almost forgot, The skill of everyone there was the tops. You can go there with no worries about their capabilities.

The doctors, lactation consultant, and nurses at the Birth Center are absolutely exceptional. Despite Covid restrictions, they ensured my baby was born safe and healthy and got me through many, many long hours of labor, with wise advice and a lot of compassion. I especially want to thank Nurses Lisa, Christy, Clair, Michelle, and Jennifer, Sommer the lactation consultant, and Dr. Vu. We are really, really lucky to have this place in Arcata, and highly recommend it for any expecting moms weighing their local options for delivery.

Just went to get X-Rays from two different doctors-hips and knees. I chose to walk-in instead of schedule an appointment. I left my house (7min drive) at 1:05 and was back in my car at 1:40. Michelle at Admitting was quick, professional but funny--exactly who you want no matter what procedure you are checking in for (I give her 8☆'s). Then, I brought my papers back to Radiology-Again fast and friendly! I sat down to pull out my phone for the wait and hadn't even unlocked my screen before my X-Ray man came to fetch me. He was fantastic as well! Commenting on my Joan Jett concert Tshirt, we talked about how great she was, when I recently was right in front of her as she rocked it. He got my films done in record time and made a suggestion for repositioning me, to save me an extra $hot.
The entire experience was excellent and I left the hospital smiling and eager to let the Google world know what a great experience I had! I was run over by a drunk driver in a truck, so I have had many hospital visits since 1995, this was a great one!!
Thanks to everyone who helped me today. It was faster than ordering a pizza from Domino's and almost as satisfying.

Our daughter was very sick and in a bad state when she arrived in ER. Their staff worked diligently to stabilize her until she could be transferred out to an ICU. They provided the best care under the resources they had. Thank you Dr.Bienvinedos and Dr. DePaulo. A big shout out and heartfelt thank you to nurse Tiffany. She was amazing from start to finish. Very caring, thorough, and professional. You are truly appreciated.

My wife Nicole was taken to this hospital and they probably saved her life! She said they were the best team she could have had in her situation. They gave her excellent care and I thank them for taking such good care of my wife!

I recently went to the hospital for a foot problem. The nurse saw me and I went to the waiting room to wait as there were sicker people who needed to be seen. What I witnessed then was a collection of incredibly entitled, whining people waiting to be seen. The only relief for me was when they were taken in to be seen BEFORE ME! When it was my turn, I was seen and even received the services of a surgeon. At the end of the day I got antibiotics but the only pain relief I needed was relief from the whiny, morons in the waiting room. Of course I’ll return if I ever need medical care again.

Came to ER very sick and had to stay for three weeks, the staff here took very good care of me and the facility was clean and best of all the food was not aweful. I would come here over st. Joes for the fact that the staff here where much less corporate feeling and more warm and compassionate. Can’t stress enough how wonderful the staff are here, they seemed to all be happy to be working the jobs they had even housekeeping was pleasant. Thank you all.
