This is a historic cemetery, so it feels like you can walk through history. Very peaceful place for dog walking, jogging, strolls, and quiet contemplation. It might seem odd to want to visit a cemetery, but it feels like a well preserved public space that's open to everyone

I came across it unexpectedly it was a hot day. I was on my bicycle and looking for a place to take a break.
I was very surprised how nice it was. The back part of the cemetery has waking paths and many birds to see and two active bee hives.
Plus there is alot of local history there. The first Mayor of Santa Rosa is buried there.
Plus people that were in the 1906 earthquake buried there as well. They also have a native plant Garden by the entrance I do recommend turn the cemetery someday it is very interesting and relaxing

As I walked through the Odd Fellows Cemetery, my destination was the historical Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery along side it. Dating back to 1854, the Rural Cemetery first laid to rest a man that came to California by wagon train. This beautiful Cemetery was restored by volunteers after years of neglect. There are soldiers buried here dating back to the War of 1812, up to more modern conflicts. Victims of the 1906 earthquake were also brought here for a final resting place after the tragic event. There is alot of history here. An act of vigilante justice in the Cemetery took place in the 1920's as three men were hung for shooting deaths of law enforcement officials. I enjoyed my time here and will return with my wife so that I can share this experience.

Ever since we went here, my girlfriends kid has been having night terrors. He keeps talking in a low scratchy voice and walking with a limp. It wasn't a bad experience, we just wish he would stop asking for rum and where we hid his gold. He keeps saying how he's never been the same since his shore leave with the girls in Singapore and he's worried he might have syphilis. All and all a wonderful monument. Highly recommend. GREAT for a picnic!

We used to hang out and smoke pot in this Graveyard at night when we were teenagers back in the day when it was all overgrown and ignored. Nobody went into that place at night except my friends and I back then lol.

If you want to see some of the graves of the founding members of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County, come to this cemetery. You can walk or even jog around and through the cemetery. You'll recognize names that are on streets, and historic buildings in the area. There are some fun night time activities for ghost hunters sometimes too!

If you like history scene through headstones and how we take resemblance and care of our dead, you love this place. If you just want to walk with your dog along some nice shady dirt with birds and trees and rocks and things you will love it here. Come at night is quite fun!
