Bi shop Thunderbird Motel

Last year I came by to bishop and stayed at motel 6 and had a few issues there so o decided this year I would try a new motel. Thunderbird prices were a lot more reasonable and although yes the rooms may need some updates they were still quite comfortable and place was very quiet. I would definitely recommend and will be staying here in the future when I come. The only thing I would say is that at 3pm they were still cleaning the rooms and I had to wait about 15 minutes, no biggie though. WiFi and Tv worked great and had no issues.

My partner and I stay in Bishop rather often due to its proximity to the Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, the Eastern Palisades, and of course Temple Crag.

The town of Bishop alone is enough to keep you coming back. It’s quiet, but with all the services and niceties you’d ever want including a world class bodybuilding gym and one of the best country fried steak breakfasts in the lower forty-eight.
The Thunderbird is exactly what it should be; the quintessential motel of the Sierras. Driving up at night, the neon sign guides you into a cozy, comfortable room replete with all one needs for a base of operations for exploring the majesty of nature in the region.
It’s easy to fall in love with the town of Bishop; it’s kind residents, quaint shops, and the fabulous Thunderbird Motel. It harkens back to the early days of American culture here in the West; road trips down Route 66, All-Night Diners, and the sense of genuine adventure that is sorely missed in our modern times. Most folks envision palm trees, sandy beaches, and Hollywood when they imagine what California must be like, but it’s been my experience that the real image of our great state is that of the Sierra Nevadas and the little towns peppered along their craggy slopes. Nowhere is this more true than Bishop and The Thunderbird Motel.

Long may they stand.

I give this 5 stars. Not because it's perfect, but because it is almost always very quiet, clean, and close to the main highway without all the noise and attention.

Great rates, great location, cozy linens, very kind folks. Humble, clean rooms. Peaceful atmosphere.

Love this location very quiet you wouldn't even know that you're near a freeway or if there was a coffee shop in front of you or anything. Slept like a baby and the owners are very polite love their blankets that they had in the room and kept very warm during the night. All around good place to go love how the town was and everything. But definitely will recommend this hotel/motel to stay at for sure.

Nice motel, very clean, the pillows were perfect, not too soft, staff is super friendly. Price was fair for location. Definitely would stay here again.

Everything nicely remodelled and updated.
The room layout is pretty standard but the owner clearly put a personal touch on the remodel: our room had lots of blue integrated into the decor. Kind of different and fun, clean and comfortable.

Very nice hotel. Check in office and motel are under construction. No noise while we were there during sleeping hours. Great air conditioner. Kept room icy cold during heat wave. Room was neat and clean. Bed was extra spacious and super comfortable. Room was clean an well stocked with amenities. Happy Trails

Cheery motel next door to Looney Bean for coffee/food - clean upstairs room, strong AC, strong water pressure, overall a GREAT base for exploring Mammoth etc.

They also kindly moved us when we informed them the first room assigned to us had been smoked in (this is a non-smoking property). Small parking lot means you can always see your car. Give this place a try!

A great place to stay, good price for the quality, very nice people, just renovated, quiet, breakfast simple but good. We were at the Harrah's in LV the night before and the room and bathroom were older and had less amenities then the one at Thunderbird! I have no minus points, just maybe a few recommendations for the management; concerning breakfast, I think it would be a great plus to change the plastic plates and cups for paper ones, better for the environment and healthier and maybe add peanut butter for the ones that do not like only sweet things in the morning, and a real plus would be a boiled egg, and bananas instead of apples...seeing as many of your guests come to hike, and do physically engaging activitiest, those are great nutritious options that shouldn't cost you much. And on a esthetics point of view, I would change the bed covers, although they are warm and good quality, they clash with your recently renovated rooms. It certainly
made me think twice when booking your place , but I came and saw the rest of the room I was sold! So happy I stayed here, definitely a great option in Bishop! I highly recommend it.

Do not discount this little off the road hotel. Hotel staff very pleasant. Room was very nice, looked to be recently remodeled. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Shower was nice. Price was wonderful.

It’s a great motel for the price, with clean rooms, and fast internet. The folks at the front desk were kind and friendly as well. The LED lights in the rooms are a bit harsh for my tastes, but besides that we really can’t complain. This is our go-to spot when visiting Bishop.

Pilot Friendly Bishop hotel! The owner is kind enough to pick you up and return you to the airport on request. Acoomodations were just fine- rooms remodeled and has a cold refrigerator, microwave, good sized new TV's, nice beds (firm with a soft topper). We ate next door at Jack's- also good. Recommended!

Unbelievably good find! Staff are friendly and responsive people; rooms are relatively newly renovated and modern; very comfortable; and reasonable rates. Definitely going back!

Yah don't really know what people expect... cheapest rates on the street and it still had everything! Fridge microwave coffee and tv (not flat screen, but they do have direct tv). Yes the room is out dated but if you care about that then pay the extra 20 bucks and go to the motel 6 down the street. But if you would rather keep that 20 in your pocket come here.

Rooms are nice, clean and have been recently renovated. Staff was friendly. Walking distance to lots of Bishop spots. Only negative is parking is a bit crammed. Overall very good experience.

the rooms and overall motel is great and clean. the breakfast was very good too, and the customer service was always very friendly. I will be staying at the Thunderbird whenever I come back to Bishop.

We stay there everytime we go up to bishop. It's great. Complimentary breakfast (pastries and juice) they just remodeled so it's even nicer

It's a great place! The outside was a bit iffy, but once we got in it was quite a nice place to stay!

We stayed there for my husband 's birthday and this was by far up and beyond all of our expectations amazing staff and the room was also amazing will definitely return
