First time in Alabama. We ate here twice and loved everything both times. The chicken fried steak and biscuits were my favorite. The old jail across the street is a must see if you are into history.

Fantastic food & service. It's like I dreamed a restaurant into life.

Update: just recently ate there twice in two days, before and after a hike. It's better than ever. Troy was wearing chili pepper pants.

We’ve been enjoying lunches here for years and an occasional dinner as well.
At first I wondered how they could have such a variety on the menu and then I noticed that some items are only available at certain times. One such item is the prime rib.
And what do you do the week after prime rib weekend? Offer it as a daily lunch special until you run out. My nephew and I were fortunate enough to walk in on one of those days.
Best $6.99 lunch I’ve ever had!

The Shrimp was tender and not rubbery and maybe the best Cocktail Sauce I've had.
Hush puppies were crunchy on outside and didn't taste like fish as some do.
I overheard someone giving the Steak high marks and really everything I've heard has been Good!!!
They have Specials on Fri, Sat and Sunday such as Crab legs and Lobster. (I guess you could call them) And I think that's when they are open till 9pm. Otherwise it's Breakfast and Lunch I think.
The staff was very friendly and attentive and your greeted when you first arrive.
It's a very casual place and doesn't look like much but you feel welcome.
It was clean and I saw staff sweeping and wiping Menu's.
The Health Rating was 95.
It's 1.5 miles off of the main HWY so it's easy to get to.
I recommend Chef Troy's!!!

Great diner!! I love a greasy spoon and Cef Troy does not disappoint!! We stop here every time we go by!

As always, the food was great. Service was a bit slow today, and the credit card broke and left us in a lurch.

Oh WOW!! One of those hidden gems!! The food is GREAT!! The service & prices are GREAT! Tucked into the little town of Houston, Alabama! The town folks love this place and so do we!! We drive 65 miles to eat breakfast there, one way!!💓

There hamburger steak with brown gravy is wonderful. The Food Grade was Excellent.

Absolutely some of the best food EVER! I was told I can't leave Huston, Alabama without trying out the food from Chef Troy and how right that suggestion was! I have to recommend the Mexican Cheese Cake and make it Alamode!

What a terrific surprise! The food was delicious and the folks couldn't have been friendlier! (They even brought us a sample of their French Toast - which was amazing! -even though we were just buying a burger to split for dinner). BTW, their burgers are amazing and huge! Everything was fresh and full of flavor. It is a simple place, but comfortable and clean. It is also right acr6from the historic Winston County Jail and only about 5 minutes from the (awesome!) Natural Bridge trail in the National Forest. (Both are FREE and fun local points of interest.) ...They also have breakfast, pizza and tons more on their menu - and everything looked terrific (as we watched others smiling with delight atound us). We will be back next time we come to Smith Lake for certain! (Sorry, our food looked so good that we forgot to take a picture before we ate it.)

I was looking for a traveling executive chef for a really important business meeting at work, when I reached out to Troy, I couldn't have hoped for things to go better than they did! He was very responsive and helpful! Him, his fiancé, and their staff at the Talk of the Town are amazing and went above and beyond to provide great food for an important meeting.

The jambalaya is GREAT! We also like the shrimp. The kids order fish and fries. The server gave the kids popsicles❤ The location is easy to find. Afterwards we walked across the road and visited the old jail and visited Lewis Smith Lake-Houston campground.

Wow, great food near Smith Lake! Shrimp & hushpuppies, yum! The word is they have fab steaks and breakfast.

Awesome local place! Everything we tried was great, and we tried a lot of things. Menu is very extensive and influenced by a variety of areas. French toast is TOO good! Thanks so much!!

Came here for breakfast every day as so friendly. We are from the UK and never had grits, etc before and they gave us samples of everything they thought we wouldn't have tried before. All delicious.
