My all time favorite place to bike ride! The path is wide, well maintained and simply gorgeous. I'm very lucky it's only 10 minutes from home.

This is a great trail to hike, bike, or run. It's over 20 miles from end to end.

The sections I've been on are mostly flat with trees surrounding both sides of the trail. We walked those sections, but I plan on biking it with my kiddos soon.

Everything is kept super nice and the trail is very well maintained.

The entire trail I believe is 42 miles, Hope Church road/Park, is a close to the center and is a great place to not only go both directions, but to stop and have a drink and potty break.

I recently had the chance to visit American Tobacco Trail and was thoroughly impressed. The trail was well-maintained, with clearly marked paths and plenty of shade on hot days. The scenery was stunning, with views of fields, forests, and wildlife along the way. I particularly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and the sense of community among the trail users.

The trail offers a great mix of activities, including hiking, biking, and running, making it a great place for families and outdoor enthusiasts. I saw people of all ages and abilities enjoying the trail, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall, I had a fantastic experience at American Tobacco Trail and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a scenic and enjoyable outdoor activity. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking for a relaxing walk, this trail has something to offer.

Brand new facility at the end of the paved section of the ATT approx. 15 miles from the start in downtown Durham. Nice restrooms, bike racks, picnic area, a covered area, lots of parking. Excellent rest stop along the trail whether you are turning back to Durham or continuing on the crushed gravel section towards Jordan Lake.

Due to physical limitations, I was only able to go one and a half miles round trip, but I greatly appreciated the wide, dirt shoulder for walkers and the divided asphalt walkway for bikers and other faster moving visitors. It's obviously a popular place (I was at the New Hope Church Road trailhead park in Car) judging by the number of people. It was clean and very well maintained making for an enjoyable adventure even with my limitations.

The section in Apex is gravel but most bikes can handle it just fine. It's nice and shady and because it was an old rail road line, there are no hills to speak of.

The southern portion (south I-40) is very safe, paved bike riding. There is plenty of restrooms and parking along it. No steep hills as it’s mostly railroad grade. Also 80% is shaded so very doable in the summer. Pack a lunch and enjoy one of the many stops along the way.

Best place to run, bike or just walk. Miles and miles of trail. Weekends can be crowded especially for bikers who have to slow down a lot. The terrain is mostly flat or gradual inclines.

This is the best place for bike riding anytime of day or night, not to mention the "full moon bike ride" once every month starting @ downtown Durham the Saturday closest to the full moon by the way.

This is a bigger entrance great for meeting up with a larger group. Nice facilities, and a suitable start point for both biking and running.

Stretches over 20 miles. You can start from downtown Durham and go to Apex is my recall. Former railroad track is my recall. Bathroom stop in West Cary. It took me about 1 hr 45 minutes to go half the trail from Durham to RTP on a bike. I didn't see any drinking fountains on the northern half, but there might be one or two gas stations semi nearby. I wouldn't really recommend the gas station in Durham on the Northern part of the trail. It is pretty shaded on the trail. Not really much need for over doing the sun cream even on really hot days. The southern part of the trail is the part I recommend; the caveat it is not always paved there. The Northern half is paved.

If you have to live in an urban area, it's great having access to such a long beautiful section of rail to trail green way. The southern portion is all packed gravel, easy on the body for runners with a nice wetlands area to go through at the southern end.

The ATT is an amazing resources for walkers, joggers, runners, cyclists, equestrians & anyone else who wants to enjoy the outdoors. It is 22 miles long and about the width of a single lane road. From downtown Durham to mile 14 it is paved, then turns into a well maintained gravel surface. There are multiple restrooms along the way. It's beautiful from start to finish. I particularly like the gravel portion from mile 14-22.
