This is an historic building with rooms to scale for the time period. Rooms are themed…very quaint. You may find that the bathrooms reflect the age of the building but they are clean (just a little “tired”). Hospitality is TOP NOTCH!! We enjoyed coffee (a la Starbucks) in the morning. Tried the PIZZA and WOW!!! Fantastic! Generous toppings and the different combinations were delicious! We ordered two and had them made half and half so that the 9 of us eating could try them. We had leftovers and three of those dining were teenagers! Cannot state how impressive the pizza is…. Even if you are just passing through this small rural town you will find a great dining experience and super friendly and efficient service.

Stayed at the Niles Hotel for a night to catch the eclipse, and I have to say, it’s an experience worth sharing. We stayed in the kitchenette room, which comes with its own guestbook filled with tales of eerie feelings and ghostly encounters. However, my experience was nothing but positive vibes.

The hotel is a charming mix of history and modern comforts. The staff is genuinely warm; kudos to the bartenders, waitresses, and the multi-talented front desk lady who also bakes the pastries. Speaking of which, don’t miss the downstairs amenities—the bar, restaurant, bakery, and coffee shop each offer a taste of Alturas’ community spirit.

Highly recommend for those who appreciate character, history, and a dash of the supernatural (if you’re into that sort of thing). Can’t wait to come back!

This hotel is a real trip, and super fun to explore the whole building: banquet rooms, saloons, lobbies, restaurants…all built well more than 100 years ago. We loved it

I had the opportunity to stay in Alturas. I opted for the local and historical Niles Hotel. It is a great period hotel with tons of character. A saloon, a restaurant, a coffee/bakery space and a nice hotel too.

Overall I’d offer, for the character alone it is worth the visit, for dinner, lunch, the bar (saloon), just a coffee and pastry and stay the night on a cozy room. Be part of the history!

Excellent late night stop over. Local oriented but very friendly for out of towners.
Lively friendly bar service. If you miss the restaurant, you can still get fried food and pizza there. Highly recommend at least stopping by for a drink and some atmosphere.

For a drink and dinner, this is pretty good. More rib steak and onion rings and sweet potato fries than we could imagine. Plenty of leftovers 😋

Best place around to stay. Good service, good bar, great staff & service.
The historic charm of this building and all the decor is awesome! They have brought this hotel back to its old glory of back in the 1800's, yet still has modern amenities to make your stay comfy.
We WILL be returning to stay next time we're in the area.
If I could rate this a 10 star review, I would!

This is a quaint hotel in a small town. For the price it can't be beat. I love history so it's especially great, but the rooms are similar to ones from an old western movie with the saloon on bottom and rooms up above. If you like old buildings, history, and things a little more rustic, you will love this place!

My husband, 2 children and I loved our stay. All of the staff was nice, although may still need some customer service training. Our server and dinner at the roadhouse was excellent, and we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and quantity of the food, plus very affordable and accommodating. Our room was absolutely gorgeous along with the rest of the hotel. We loved the creaky floor, seriously. This dated hotel is the perfect little place if you like historical places. It may or may not be haunted, just ask the pictures in the hallway. Cannot recommend Hotel Niles enough.

Beautiful Hotel great customer service there restaurant is gorgeous with great food. There's two bars one in the restaurant and another next door. They make amazing drinks and the bartenders are super sweet. If you have the chance to check it out you definitely should. Its right on the main strip so its within walking distance and anything you could need. The history behind is amazing and they say the 3rd floor is haunted which makes for a very unique experience.

I've lived in town a few years now but never thought to actually sit and dine in here. I've always done drinks to go really; but today my sister and I had brunch there and the experience was wonderful and delicious. I had a salad that was a sweet new taste compared to the ranches and ceasars everywhere else and ended up being just the right salad for me. Quality was excellent, I ended up ordering something extra to-go for my boyfriend at home and it too looks wonderful. Staff was delightfully cheery and I've always loved the rustic atmosphere inside.

Has a great vibe to it. Wanted to stop in for to the rumors that it may be haunted because I'm a spooky kid like that.

No supernatural happenings but it was a great stay and very affordable. I was in the dormitory style 3rd floor which was very clean and the shared bathrooms were spotless and well kept.

It is an older building so you may feel vibrations as trucks drive by but it didn't bother me.

The salon was also great for a couple drinks and alturas is a great town to stop in if you're doing a road trip.

For those looking for an amazing place to stay in Alturas I highly recommend this hotel. The service was so friendly and inviting. The rooms had that old school country feel/look which is good especially in the world we live in today.

Wow they really care about Niles hotel. you can tell by the decore and details. they even had a cute Christmas tree in it that someone put it up. it makes this place feel like home The staff was very warm and friendly. Coming from Central California it was a long trip and it was good to see the beautiful girl downstairs getting our room prepared and booked. I was blown away by the room decor, it's vintage, old ,there's a history to it and it is quite comfortable. They wrapped the cups and it's was a nice touch. Again. I really love this place I wish there was more people in it. They deserve it. I do hope so!

Please note, this was pre-covid. The place has very cool decor and energy. I had read that it might be haunted. I mentioned it to the wife as we arrived (this was one of the few trips I had ever just planned myself and not let her have any say). We are fans of many paranormal based shows and she said it looked like a place they would do investigations in. Place was really clean, all the staff were very friendly and accommodating. As mentioned in other reviews, it is an old, restored (NOT updated and ruined) hotel. No TV, no swimming pool and gym. Etc. It is simple and simply awesome
