I give this college 5 stars. Not only because it’s close to home for me but I also attended it when I was taking classes to obtain my GED and the classes were flexible, I was able to take my daughter with me one day when she didn’t have class and the professor did not have a problem with it. I am now attending to earn my certification for culinary arts and it’s wonderful. I love Hostos.

A wonderful college with amazing professors. This college also has career training programs, pre-college programs, High School Equivalency and English Language Skills courses. You can visit the library and search for e-books, books and magazines. Student organizations offer a variety of extracurricular activities in clubs for Career, Community Health, Photography Club and many others. My daughter had the opportunity to engage in activities, that were enjoyable and made her gain meaningful experience. My daughter graduated and she holds the most beautiful memories of Hostos. Located near trains number 2, 4 and 5. Also buses Bx1, Bx2 and Bx19.

It is literally harder to fail a class then it is to pass. I was a single mother taking 12-16 credits at a time I graduated with honors and second highest GPA in my major with not much effort. If you do all your work on time and take a few hours to study you will be fine. There are plenty of tutors to help you but many people who complain about how hard this school is or failing don't take advantage of what is available. Use ratemyprofessor and register ahead of time. Every professor I had cared a lot about their students. Keep an open line of communication from the beginning with them if you think you aren't doing so well and they will guide you. Going to the Financial aid office is like going to the dmv but that's at every school you go to... Go to learn and you will pass think college is anything like highschool and you'll end up repeating the class.

I LOVE THIS COLLEGE AND I MISS IT

To navigate in this school and most of others is by going to rate my professor pick a good one they have plenty and stick to one til you graduate. Computer lab and library is small but useful. It is a little favortism to spainsh students expecially with male prof and female students BUT again go to rate my professor and talk to other students about good professor and you will be fine. It was a good 2 years of my life I learn alout from diffrent personalities. I don't think it's a better community college that takes thier time and at the same time prepare you.

life changing! a college with so many opportunities. it is often overlooked but it was the only community college to ever be invited to the International Collegiate Theatre Festival at the Fringe in Edinburg Scotland in August 2013. I was a participant along with ten other students. A school full of diversity, professionalism and talent. "Don't Judge A Book By its Cover"

This school is small but packs a big bite just like its mascot the caiman. This school will give you the best bang for your buck, and is one of the most diverse 2 years school in New York City. You can't go wrong.

Graduated from HCC with the liberal arts degree and LPN. There are many great profs. and the leadership academy is awasome. However, the registration process, financial aid, bursars and admission are a pain in the ... just take advantage of the resources, follow your degree audit, dont believe everything advisors tell you(sometimes they know less than you). do your own research. use rate my proffesors and ask classmates to get the best proffesors. I miss HCC, most of the time people can be friendly

Updated as of 7/3/19
So i just want to provide some info for those who have no idea what to do after graduation, or may want to continue taking classes w/o a fix schedule. I been working as a LPN for over 2yrs now. After graduation, i wanted to continue my education. So i wanted a frexible job. I decided to go for home care. So am working as a home care nurse. Now let me explain a little. There are different types of home care nurses. Some are call visiting nurses. Mostly those go to the pt's home to continue teaching and follow up. Some, nurses visit to collect information from pts to maintain services up to date. For example, insurance companies send nurses to make sure service still needed and pt is okay. (***note*** when you get your bachelors and experience you can apply for nursing jobs from home like answering calls, reviewing charts... blah blah. Look it up)
Ok, coming back to home care. What i do is go to the pts home and stay there. Usually, shifts are from 10-12hrs. However, most of the time you only have one pt. So far for me only one pt, one case. Hours can vary depending on the needs of the pt and the hours they can get approve from health insurance. You will be mostly working with peds(at least if you do nyc, am not sure about other places). Most of these kids will have feeding tubes or/and tracheotomy with/without vent, seizures, mobility and cognitive impairment.
So things i may do during my shifts are showering, dressing, styling hair, brushing teeth, suctioning, cleaning stoma, doing ROM range of motion(most of these pts have mobility impairment, so they get very stiff w/o ROM) give feedings, give meds. Most of the time i give meds through tube feedings(pt most of the time NPO), give nebulizer tx. Monitor pt during shift. SAFETY FIRST! Order medical equipment and medication refills. Call md to provided report in any concerns. Maintain area where the pt is clean. Make pts bed, clean equipment.

Anyway, just think of it as taking care of family member home. Just remember, not all cases require the same kind of support.

Now lets go to income. So doing home care mostly you can get with an lpn from 22-29/ hr. For RNs from 30-40. These all depends on the agency you are working for and the level of care the pt needs. Some agencies provide health insurance, metrocard, direct deposits bonus while others don't.

Now, the most difficult part about these job is boundaries and dealing with family. If you stay doing home care after a while specially if you have the same pt they kind of become like family. So just try to be nice to the family. At the end of the day, you are in their home. Dont be judgemental. You will be there when they argue, eat, go out, have family visits, bbq and all kind of things you can imagine people may do at their place. I have encounter men who have felt attracted to me and sometimes you just really have to let the case go. Specially, if you try to put a stop and it doesn't work. Remember is their home, so you gotta be careful.

Some agencies i can tell you about are white glove(offer training but pay is low compare to other agencies and if you get the training you have to stay for a yr to avoid paying penalty), jsp agency, helping u come care...
So for now thats all i have to say. Good luck
