Visited Bronx Community College today for the First time. Living in the area for years and never knew this was here by the trees of the Major Deegan. The campus is exquisite so much history in the architecture. You really can’t comprehend this is in the Bronx. This use to be the old NYU Campus many years ago. It’s like time stops here the chaos around you just stops doesn’t even feel like you’re in the Bronx for a second. I’m so happy my son chose this school for his College. The College feels very safe and that’s very important to me.

Beautiful campus (formerly NYU Bronx Campus). The campus contains remarkable modern architecture by Marcel Breuer (1902-1981) and Robert A.M. Stern (born 1939), including Meister Hall, Begrish Hall, Carl Polowczyk Hall, and Colston Hall by Breuer and North Hall and Library by Stern. The famous Hall of Fame is currently closed for renovation.

I graduated from Riverdale Country School in 2011 and attended BCC from 2012 to 2014 after taking a gap year. This is the most beautiful of all the CUNY campuses. I earned my AAS in Education. Professor Stephen Powers helped me to get many internships, jobs, and into an Honors Program at Queens College. Love walking past the campus 🚶‍♂

Has one of the greatest campus in CUNY. Place is quite safe. The students are pretty diverse, which is great. You'll find people of different cultures in this college, most of them are new to US.

I am currently working as a Biology Tutor at Bronx Community College. I have to say that communication is key to make sure that there is no misunderstanding with students, faculty, and staff. The College has a lot of resources for Bronx students, such as the Academic Success Center and the BCC Writing Center, so that future successful students may write and type in professional level to get the foot in the door to the career they eventually will get. Persistence, Drive, Writing, Communicating, Studying, and Knowing How to Relate to People will get you far, College Students of the Bronx!

Good starter school if you don't know what you want to do and want to save some money instead of going to a 4 year first.

I really like being on this campus. It is easy to access the buildings if you are a student of course, and being there feels nice.

I graduated with honors in Bronx Community College as an Honor Student in 2019 with a 3.25 GPA. When one of my clients for my tutoring company decided to go to my former college, I had to thank my client for giving me another social life on that campus. I am currently applying for a college tutoring job there, plus I got referrals from some of the faculty who still knew me after five years. This college even has accreditation (the boogie, expensive, private school I went to right after had exactly 0) and special services for all residents, from free GED classes to ASAP programs (for faster graduation, paid books, MetroCard, etc) to student tutors who “get you,” applications for SNAP, PELL, TAP, SSI, and Disability Accommodations. The experience is worth it. Some students, depending on financial status, can get potentially hefty tuition reimbursement checks! In a nutshell, BCC, with all of its understanding professors in a diverse campus, is a second home for serious students. Enjoy!

For the semester of Fall 2022-2023 I took my English 112 class with professor Julia Rodas and I do not regret it at all. She is very funny, dedicated and educated as well! She keeps the classroom with a healthy and energetic environment, she inspires you to work, to think, to organize your ideas and gives you very detailed constructive criticism so that you can become a better writer and student overall. During this course, I learned how to become a better writer. I used to struggle a lot with organizing one idea per paragraph and by the end of this semester the professor herself mentioned how much I improved it and I was very happy to hear that. If I were to take this course again (and I would) I would work on my time management since during the last few weeks of the semester I would sometimes be absent or late, which was very inconvenient considering the fact that we only met one day a week. In the future, I will continue to work on my paragraph structuring and time managing skills so that I can become a better writer and a better student. If you are debating on taking her class, stop thinking about it and do it! You will not be disappointed, she is very understanding and an amazing professor, even if English is not a class you like taking, her topics will have you very engaged.

For this spring semester (Spring 2023), I took English 112 with Professor Julia Rodas! Her class was very interesting with the readings we did. Julia had always found ways to help and give support to the class if they are stuck on something. This class was in between difficult and easy, as long as you were looking at the slides she provides that helps break down with mechanisms to do an essay for example. I had to do a research paper for this class and i learned a lot of info about why are parents being forced to sell their children and why does this happen. Im really glad Julia helped me with this research question. If it weren’t for her I wouldn’t have found out about this. I really enjoyed the vibe when i first entered the class. Without this class I wouldn’t have known how to find good resources. She is very supportive in guiding you how to better your writing skills. I feel like my writing skills got stronger by taking this class! i would recommend this course 10/10 if I could do it again, I would but i writing is not my profession to be honest. But if you’re majoring with anything that is involved with writing you MUST take this class. I sincerely appreciate the knowledge I’ve acquired from taking this class, and I know that it will be helpful in my future coursework. Thank you again Julia!

For this semester ( Fall 2022 ), I took English 112 with Professor Julia Rodas. Almost every class was something new which i really enjoyed even though other classes can be boring or quiet. Julia always find ways to make the class more entertaining and enjoyable for others. At first I thought this English class would be boring or stressful for me but it neither of that , I enjoyed the class when I first walked in , i can just feel the energy and excitement brought to the class. She taught me how to structure a paragraph and collect evidence from sources we had to used in class. Such as learning about undocumented workers who come from nothing but is willing to get a better future for themselves and family. One thing i really enjoyed about Julia was how supportive she is whenever I give in my paper she helps me become a strong and straightforward writer. Considering how encouraging Julia was throughout the semester, i would recommend this course 10/10 if I could do it again, I would but i would be even better then before. I sincerely appreciate the knowledge I’ve acquired, and I know that it will be helpful in my future coursework.

This semester (fall 2022) I took English 112 with Prof. Julia Rodas, such a kind and wonderful professor. In this class we focus on how we describe and see all the perspectives of work. At first, I was weird to understand but I found the super interesting. As I found it remarkably interesting because I learned how to define work by all their perspective on a way of how to see the work. I have the chance of also compare my status of a legal immigrant and how those who are illegal are comforted doing things that nobody would do just to maintain their family. Another thing is how to do a work cited, in-text citation and I am still learning how to make a paragraph by collecting information from sources and from what we have done in class. This is something that I will keep working on because I want to be good at writing and not just for my degree but also because If I ever go back to my homeland (Dominican Republic) I will love to author a book about my experience in the United States as a student- athlete in such a country. This course has helped me so much because ii opened my eyes as a reader and writer just for the fact that I can see the other sides of everything, and this is a course that I have any chance to take it again I will do it because Prof. Rodas is such a good professor, she helped me all the time and even for insignificant things she would give me ideas to help me on how to structure my essays better. I recommend this course because Prof. Rodas is great in a supportive sense but also for the knowledge you will learn from it that you will apply later in the future.

This semester (Fall 2022) I took English 112 with Professor Julia Rodas, she's a great professor who always gave great feedback on my work. She always knew how to keep everyone engaged with the work and made sure we all understood what was going on. Throughout the class I learned so much, professor Rodas helped me connect my real-life experiences with the work we did in class even if it felt sometimes like I didn't have one. Normally, when it comes to English class I tend to not have much interest, but in this class I found myself being genuinely interested in the readings and the essays. In the past, when it came to readings I didn't pay much attention to them but with the readings from this class, I was always engaged and I was appreciative of being able to read about experiences that I normally would know nothing about. I really liked being able to write about something that interested me for the research essay and while writing that essay I learned how to properly choose a text and include and structure the evidence I found. This class really did help me a lot and I know that when I'm writing future essays, what I've picked up from this class will always help me. Walking away from this class I know that I could've done better by being more on top of my work but professor Rodas was always understanding and helped me catch up with my work and I genuinely appreciate that. Although, I still have a lot to learn, after this class I know that I'm a little more prepared for my future writing classes and I am very thankful to professor Rodas for helping me improve my writing skills.

For this semester (Fall 2022), I took English 112 with Professor Julia Rodas. In this course we talked about work and what defines work. I initially thought it wouldn’t be of interest to me. To my surprise, I’ve learned that there are different perspectives when it comes to defining work. I’ve also come to the realization that I never took the chance to consider the types of jobs that undocumented workers are willing to do that are considered to be socially undesirable. Another thing I learned is how to structure a paragraph and to collect evidence from sources we’ve used in class. This has helped become a strong writer along with the feedback provided by Julia. If I could take this course all over again it would be because of how supportive Julia was throughout the semester 10/10 would recommend. I truly am grateful for the knowledge I’ve gained and it will most definitely be useful for future courses.

My reflections learning in English 112

I remember starting my English composition II: Writing and Rhetoric ENG 112 -D04[28475] with professor Julia M. Rodas, thinking I didn’t have stories to write or share and wondered how I was going to pass the class. Writing papers has been one of my biggest fears as a student. As the class progressed, I opened my eyes to the possibilities I never knew about writing. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. In addition, I would have to say the thing I most struggled with was expressing what I was thinking, and expressing those thoughts onto paper in a way my teacher would understand my way of thinking. But as I continued to write those essays that consisted of hours of writing, I began to see a change in my writing, and my ability to express myself in an academic way that was easier for the teacher to understand. Add to this, some of the areas that I have improved the most have been organization, different forms of MLA format, and how to find and right use of different sources.
Furthermore, this semester was very stressful. My stress revolved around school and family. Whether it was an essay, my personal issues and I also took care of my father and children. This caused a great deal of stress to my family and in particular stress in my life. Stress is something that everyone experiences, but mostly affects the performance of college students in negative ways. I experience change in being more irritable than normal and being more incapable of completing my assignments. Also, it was a problem to manage time effectively and distribute it to have balance. I have learned time management skills, the time management skill that I have developed has helped me in other classes. My grades are better because of my time management.

As I looked back on my English 112- D04 experience. I have come to the conclusion that I have learned many things that have improved my abilities as a writer. Also, I would like to thank Professor Julia M. Rodas for being so helpful and understanding with my writing. She did a very good job in showing me and helping find my way into writing by focusing on some of the problems I was facing and clarified them so that I would better understand them. I believe my own personal style of writing will continue to grow and I can add a lot of what I learned from this class. I feel more confident and comfortable. I would totally recommend this class.
