Pine Grove State Forest Campground

Beautiful, way off the grid state park! Only 6 sites, with a fcfs, no reserve system. River access, a pit toilet and spring water coming out of a pipe.

Very rustic and awesome. Very close to the river. Foot bridge to cross the Pigeon river. Miles and miles of trails. Quiet and serene

The campground is great, but the picture is out of date. That bridge no longer exists. Now if you want to get to the campground from across the river, you either Ford the stream- about 3' deep, or cross on this log

Pros: For a last minute July 4th plan wanting a secluded fly fishing river, this place delivered - almost had the entire campsite and river to myself! Toilette was great and clean, spring water source was a nice touch. Almost complete solitude.

Cons: Now if you aren't looking for a secluded fly fishing river (ie normal camping experience), this place might not be what you are looking for. It takes 20-30 minutes of two track driving to get here from cell reception/nearest gas station. Roads are a little rough but not that bad. Pretty buggy - lots of ticks, mosquitos, horseflies. Limited views, trails, activities for people that aren't fishing or content siting around camp all day.

Normally quiet.
I've aways found the vault toilets to be clean.
Artesian water source is convenient but runs slowly and has a distinct iron taste.
$13 a night strikes me as high for primitive state campgrounds especially given the poor road maintenance back into the place.

This place is seriously off the beaten path. The last few miles the road is really bad. The plus is that it probably isn't too crowded.

Pickerel Lake State Campground is more accessible, has lots of spots, and is also very nice.

Had high hopes for this campground, way out of the way and obly 6 spots to camp, love rustic camping but when getting there all the spots were close by each other and no trees to hide your campsite and give you privacy and peace of mind ended up just driving off after a 30 minute drive down a unkept 1 lane road

Visited in May 2022. Very remote. Roads were in rough shape. Sites themselves are ok. River access. Trash was piled up outside of cans. Not worth the drive in my opinion.
