A quiet place to visit my parent's gravestones. Also, the cemetery is clean and set up to walk around pay respect to the deceased. The grave yard for the Unknown Confederate soldiers who died for a lost cause is a place to visit. Another sight is the tombstone that a tree grew around.

This is Huntsville's historic cemetery. Once a year there is a walk through with nearly 100 sights of citizens in period costumes telling stories of their times - politicians, Civil War soldiers, World War soldiers, a Madam, people of historically African-American significance, a movie star (Talulah Bankhead), etc., also traditional period music. There is simply too much to take in! But it is well worth a day trip (or even over night) to see. And the cemetery itself is positively beautiful.

Peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. My wife and I were visiting this historic cemetery lookin for Veterans and we were not disappointed. It was sad to see some of the beautiful monuments power washed as it damages the stonework! We will go again and recommend to all!

So much history here. Several important people of Alabama buried here, including several past governors.

I first visited Maple Hill Cemetery on the sad occasion of a burial for a relative. I have been back a number of times since then—sometimes for a visit to a grave, burials of friends and relatives, or just to see the trees blooming in the Spring.

This is a very large cemetery of approximately 100 acres and reportedly about 100,000 graves.

Visitors familiar with Huntsville's history will see many familiar names. The cemetery has been in use since at least 1822. Some of the land was likely used by one or more families prior to this date.

During the American War Between the States, Maple Hill Cemetery was the burial ground of about 200 unknown Confederate soldiers and an unknown number of Union soldiers.

Most of the Confederate soldiers are buried in the Confederate section marked by a large Confederate War statue. Union troops who died during the federal occupation of Huntsville are believed to have been buried in unmarked graves throughout the oldest section of the cemetery. Most of these graves were moved to Chattanooga National Cemetery in 1867.

Maple Hill is the burial site for numerous Congressmen and senators, military leaders, Confederate leaders, governors, and many early Huntsville leaders.

This place is worth a visit. But please keep in mind this is a cemetery and it demands a respectful visit.

Maple Hill Cemetery is beautiful, respectful, and professionally run. Many funerals for family and friends have taken place at Maple Hill and we have never had a problem.

Sad times are bittersweet, but I also recommend walking or driving through Maple Hill. See the respectful beauty as you see their historic section. Office staff is most helpful.

Maple Hill is clean, they really do great on the upkeep of it! I enjoy just walking and looking at the very old stones, and they have some cool looking headstones.,I enjoy walking and hearing the birds sing.

My husband and I finally had the opportunity to visit Maple Hill. My father's family is buried there. We were able to find the plot. My grandparents and great grand parents along with great uncles and their families. I will forever cherish my visit to your beautiful cemetery. My family name is Hummel.

Great place to visit if you can’t afford a country club. My advice is use a 4 iron and stay out of the trees. Playing on the east side you’ll be using your pitching wedge a lot, but you get rewarded for the good shots you take. Play tight and avoid the greenskeeper.

The cemetery stroll hosted by the Huntsville Pilgrimage Association here is one of the highlights of the year of things to do in Huntsville. The actors/volunteer do a great job and the donations collected are used to restore and preserve the cemetery.

Maple Hill cometary is a beautiful historic burial ground with lovely sugar maples that turn bright yellow, orange, and red in the fall. It's a peaceful, well-kept site and worth a visit for anyone interested in the history of Huntsville and its people.

Historic Huntsville cemetery in Huntsville's 5 Points neighborhood near downtown. Beautiful trees and well run. You'll see lots of names that match up with Huntsville landmarks, businesses and streets.

Fresh air and no masks required.
Read about Mary S Chambers Bibb then find the tomb (section 1, oldest area).
Live entertainment lacking.

A great place for walking and exploring. I walk my dogs just outside the fence -- dogs not allowed inside -- and we always enjoy it.
