In my experience with them, I had my 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 engine completely rebuilt and it was done under a month. It would have been much faster if I had them order all the necessary parts from the beginning. And as seen in the pictures the engine turned from a rust smoking bucket to a racing Harley-sounding engine. They can do a great job tuning carburetors which not many repair shops do or can do or would do these days.

I had my 2011 Crown Victoria tires and rotors and brake pads replaced by them. And thanks to GOD and then Mackey Repair shop expertise in installing and rotating tires with weights and not multiples weights like most inexperienced shops do rotations. It saved my life on the highway from someone break-checked from 70 MPH me to a full stop without even a scratch. So, if you care about your life or your children or your neighbor go to them for your car repairs. They saved my life as proof of how good they are.

They even fixed my 1999 Honda Accord wheel hub assembly and front passenger sway bar link. Which made the loud knocking sound coming from the wheels disappear. And they replaced my tires and rotated them with the correct weight. Thanks to them they made the car sound like a cloud on the road. And what's surprising is they knew exactly what was the problem from my description and sound imitating. Which most repair shops won't even consider they would just brush you off and charge you for inspection.

Macky Repair shop is the best shop in the world for many reasons if not for the price alone or the quality. And this is a little secret from me. They might still have discounts and subscription plans for general maintenance you can only get if you ask for them. Which is a way better way to save money than to come without it each couple of months for maintenance.

I'm staying in Ames while my mother is in the hospital here. My regular mechanic is in Chicago. I heard a loud noise coming from under my car every time I went over a speed bump in the hospital parking ramp. Took my car to Macky's and asked if they could look at it. A very nice man immediately came out to the parking lot, looked under my car and was able to fix the problem (heat shield had come loose) in a few minutes. He very nicely explained everything to me, made a recommendation to have my mechanic take a look at it when I get back to Chicago, and I was back on the road with no more funny noises a few minutes later. Great experience--definitely would go back if I had another car problem while in Ames.

I was having issues with a leak but couldn't find where. The first place we took my car to said it was a bad transfer case and the whole thing needed replaced, quoting us $3,400 to do so. We called around and Macky quoted us significantly less. They ran a free diagnostic and ended up finding that just a hose was bad and a whole transfer case replacement wasn't needed, saving us even more money.
We're very glad we took my car there and appreciate their thoroughness and taking the time to actually determine what the problem was! They kept us updated all throughout the diagnostic and repair and were fully transparent. Their prices are also so much more reasonable than other places out there. We definitely will be taking our cars back in the future!

I had a rather urgent issue with my truck tailgate being locked and needing to get in there. After calling a couple other shops I was familiar with and being told it'd be a week before they could get me in I called Macky on a whim. Troy said he could take a look at it that morning quick. When I got there, they were able to look at it, diagnose the issue, and get me in and out in about 10-15 minutes even with a shop full of vehicles. Really saved me in a jam. They were honest, fair, and did a fantastic job of explaining/showing me what the issue was and explaining my options moving forward. I hadn't heard of these guys before and used to use another shop in town that closed, but after such an awesome experience they likely earned a customer for life. Working with Troy was easy and effortless, really like this shop!

We live out of town but have a child that attends ISU. The car was in need of a new alternator and we really had no idea where to take it. Communication with Troy was great, the job was done in a timely manner. It was a complicated / long labor job and the price was fair. We will return to Macky for our car needs!

Macky Repair is a stellar place. My Subaru had developed quite a few problems, and they patiently worked through all of them. It felt like they cared about getting the car fixed and worked with me on the price of the fix. Another place would have charged way more, and as a college student, I cannot thank them enough for this, and this made it clear that they truly care about what they do. They definitely have a repeat customer in me now, and I would recommend them to all my friends. Class guys.

My van broke down on the local Walmart. I'm from out of town (8 hours away). And the mechanic came to the Walmart to help me.
The owner and his wife went above and beyond to help me when I was stranded and not knowing a sole around me. I cannot thank Macky Repair enough for everything they have done for helping me and my boys out and repairing my van. If I lived in Iowa I know this would be my preferred shop.

They provide great service at a reasonable rate. Unlike other service shops they do not double their hourly rates on you if you do not let them
supply the parts for the repair. It is well worth the extra hours drive for me to get the work done where I won't get ripped off.

I'm new to Ames and luckily came across Macky Repair when I needed tire repair. They were very friendly and I was out of there in no time. They also provided recommendations in a very helpful and professional manner as to future maintenance to think about with my tires. Will be going back for sure.

If I could give Macky more than 5 stars, I would. My daughters suv was vandalized (catalytic converters stolen) and Troy went to the truck and took enough care to put her back on the road. Great service and great to work with!! Call them and see for yourself. UPDATE: After another issue while I am miles away, Macky continues to impress. 100 percent 5 stars!

The service and quality were great. Friendly, knowledgeable and honest.

Background: 3 months before, I had taken my car into the Toyota dealership, and they botched everything. I took the car in because of a card-flapping sound during acceleration, and as expected, they tried to fix everything else and charge me lots. When I hopped into my car on pick-up, the noise was still there. A mechanic rode with me and would not stop talking about the tires long enough to hear the flap. 2 days later, my car was "fixed".

3 months later, my check engine light goes on. I take it to Macky. They look at it, say the codes look bad, and will investigate. I come back, and it was the spark plugs (big eye-brow wipe). However, if my spark plugs were so bad that it turned on the check engine lights, Toyota should have been able to catch it. If they were looking. Toyota dealership, nevermore. Macky all the way!

Plus, they threw in a great deal on the tires for me. I can trust these people.

Troy was phenomenal! My Jeep broke down on the way up north and Macky Repair was the closest shop that had great reviews. Troy dropped everything and fixed my Jeep in about 2 hours. He is a very honest mechanic and has the most reasonable shop and labor fees I have seen in Central Iowa. I would drive out of my way to Ames to have Troy work on any of my vehicles. There's a reason for all these five-star reviews. My daughter's car was vandalized while parked - the driver's side mirror was broken off, but since I live 7 hours away I couldn't install it for her. We found a part inexpensively online and I contacted a few repair shops in the area by email. Macky was the first to reply, had the highest ratings and the lowest estimate. They were able to make an appointment with her on a Saturday (the other shops weren't open weekends) and got the part installed extremely quickly. Completely unexpectedly, they didn't even charge her! They did a fantastic job with the repair and have earned a customer for as long as she's in Ames. Troy is always so helpful, very knowledgeable and you can tell helping get you on the road safely is a bigger priority than making money. When I had my transmission mounts replaced, they gave me an estimate and the final cost was right in line with the estimate. Definitely has my business as long as I am in Ames.
