The House at Gatewood

The pork was the definition of perfection. We all know when something smells really good but it's a disappointment. Well the pork smelled good but still didn't prepare you for how incredible it was going to taste. I've never had pork barbecue legitimately melt apart as if it had been cooked in a crockpot. Mac and cheese with penne pasta needs to be a standard, too. That was insanely good!

I generally don't like beans. I had seconds of the beans. The whole spread was that good.

This place is so cute! I love the decor/vibe. Wait staff was great, drinks were awesome, and the food was delicious. I had shrimp and grits, husband had the brisket. Will definitely come back.

Now. We miss the days this was open like a traditional restaurant.
Still recommend checking out gatewood. It’s a neat place. Plenty of parking, neat layout with tables all over, excellent food.
What they did with renovations is fantastic.
Hoping they open up as a typical restaurant again. Sitting at the bar or with the back door open was great.

Awesome food!! You want a good combo get their BBQ with baked beans and mac&cheese, this was phenomenal!! Would recommend all to try this place!!!

Cool place!! I went there for a wedding which I’m told was their first one. Nice spot for a small-ish wedding. Plenty of parking and the food was really good.

My wife, daughter and I ate here for New Years. The food and atmosphere was awesome. My only suggestion for the restaurant would be to have booster seats or high chairs for children as my daughter had to sit in my lap most of the time.

The service was incredible, everyone was nice. Its a place where I felt happy, and I bet it's a place where people respect others. If the food is good but people aren't, that's discouraging. The people were amazing. The food made my body feel happy and made me feel more at home than I can describe. The food looked good on its own, and when I told my brother's friend who worked there ot was my brithday, everyone was nice. It's a happy place. Looks incredible inside and out. Food tastes and looks better than the place itself. It feels rustic yet modern at the same time. Service and the people there just filled my heart with love. New favourite restraunt.

I have been hearing about this place since it opened, and on my first trip back to Hillsborough made it a priority to stop in.... This place is what I have been waiting for for literally the last 15 years!!

The ambiance is amazing, the staff is absolutely phenomenal, the beer/wine/cocktail lists get things started in an awesome way, and then you get to the food....

We started with an assortment of oysters, and man were they amazing!!! Then, we had some of their pimiento cheese, which was potentially the BEST pimiento cheese I have EVER had! Next, we enjoyed their beer-battered cheese curds... While they were a lil over-melted for my preference (I like my cheese curds to still have that squeaky quality to them), they were still quite fantastic. And finally, for the main course, I had the brisket. Let me tell you what, that brisket nearly brought me to tears! It was just perfection.

So thank you, House at Gatewood, for creating the perfect experience that Hillsborough has been lacking in the past.. Thank You!

This an exceptional venue to hold any event!! My retirement party was recently hosted here and I could have not ask for a better place. Owner and chef Ron went out of his way to take care of my dietary needs and prepared an awesome meal for not just me but for everyone attending. Thank you Ron, and to your wonderful staff for making my retirement party such a memorable event!!!!

Phenomenal! We drove up the drive to find an enchanting country home refurbished with beautiful lights and patio areas surrounding the home. All situated on a wooded property. Inside the restaurant was bustling but didn't feel crowded and we were warmly greeted. The food was outstanding from the first bite to the last! Something to definitely write home about! I got the tasty pork chop and she got the fried green tomato sandwich. Generous portions. Great service. We split the large green salad. And wow! A very memorable meal it was! We'll definitely be back.

Perfect place for events. Big or small. The indoor/outdoor combination works so well. The place is beautiful. The owners are kind, caring, personable and will go out of their way to make sure everyone is happy! Their staff is great. The place is very clean, they have a full bar, the menu is gourmet and is just 15 from down town Durham. Thank you Ron and Jen!!

We came here not long after this place opened and the struggle was so very real. This is to be expected with any new restaurant. I knew they would work out their kinks and boy did they! My wife and I came here this past Friday night for dinner to celebrate our 21 year anniversary. Not only was the service exceptional (Lola was our hostess and I can’t remember our waitresses name) but the food was spectacular. My wife had the Salmon and I had the brisket. We had the deviled eggs for appetizer. (WOW) All of the food was prepared perfectly. The place was filled with local friends and family. It’s also the first time we’ve eaten in a public place since the pandemic started last March. It wasn’t just a great experience, it was an experience that we’ll never ever forget...

We hosted my daughter’s rehearsal dinner for her wedding at the House at Gatewood. Everything was phenomenal! The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was perfect. We really appreciated the ease with which Ron and all his folks made this happen.🙂

Very good food, courteous staff and a well-rounded beer selection. Comfort food is an apt description. Fried chicken filet sandwich and shrimp and grits were very well done and not overstated. The chef checked on us himself and also offered other patrons menu samples for their opinions. The atmosphere was warm and unpretentious. We ate on the bar side but were very comfortable. Looking forward to going back

They served a rotating buffet when I attended their first brunch - note I am not a fan of buffets. But I am, most definitely, of theirs.

It is not your typical buffet.
We all went back for seconds. Ron walked the room to share new dishes being brought out. Dishes were rotated often, so there was always something new and interesting on the line.

This is the place Hillsborough was missing.

Attended a family wedding here and really loved it. Outdoor ceremony with drinks/apps and dinner inside. Several fireplaces, cozy dining room and a full bar. Staff were all terrific and we all had a blast. Also, the food was fantastic!

I went today with my husband for the Brunch, the food was awesome as usual, the service is remarkable. we feel welcomed and they give us good recommendation about the food. everybody that works there have a happy face and they are really committed to make feel you special.
Our servers Tayler and Anderson (not 100% sure that was his name because he was training our server) were warm, always available and committed to serve. Everything went good he service and food was way over our expectations. 100% recommend this place is must to go when you visit Hillsborough.

Gorgeous setting and building, excellent food, cozy space. Great bar area, great outdoor seating, romantic fire places inside and outside. My wife and I loved it. We ordered the oysters, steak, and fried chicken sandwich and we’re blown away by how good each one was. Our new favorite restaurant in Hillsborough, and one of the top 3 restaurants in the triangle area, in our opinion. You should go here ASAP.
