Purple Crow Books

What a fantastically curated indie bookshop! We stopped in Hillsborough for a lunch break on a long road trip and walked from the river park to Purple Crow Books. What a wonderful surprise! Beautiful space, great local authors selection, and a wonderful selection of books on display.

Delightful little bookshop. They have sections for kids, local subjects and authors, and my favorite was a $5 pre-loved book section. I bought a couple of great $5 hardcovers.

Excellent procurement of books, assorted current best sellers, and older works as well. Helpful staff. Lovely local artwork for sale, too.

It is nice to find an old fashion bookstore. I really enjoyed looking at their assortment. They have many children’s books (which always make a great gift in today’s computer game age). But more importantly they carry all of the local Hillsborough authors, and there are many of them.

Small, pleasant (and, since this is Hillsborough, quaint as well) independent bookstore. Owner friendly and helpful.

I recently went in looking for a new book or two for my 4-yr-old granddaughter. I was pleased with their limited but carefully chosen selection, and my granddaughter loved the two books I got, they've been read many times ...

"The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires is itself a magnificent thing, empowering story of perseverance and determination told with realism and humor, and illustrated delightfully. She loves it.

And "Fox and the Box" by Yvonne Ivinson is a beautiful primer -- just a few, large-print words like fox, box, tail, tale, sail, sale, shell, sell, see, sea -- but the colorful and engaging pictures paint a rich and satisfying story. She loves it too.

Anyway, I was walking my dog around town today, and later Google said I'd been there and asked for input, usually I just ignore those (jeez, big brother) but tonight I had a minute, and wanted to pass along my pleasant experience there. I don't often shop for books but I'll return there next time I do.

Lovely place to relax and just let the outside pass you by.

In a time when bookstores are falling by the wayside, this store is a wonderful rendition of what a small store can/should be.
