Nice spacious seafood restaurant in Birmingham. The food is good, casual vibe and it doesn’t smell like fish! The servers are on the side of seasoned, so you won’t get blank stares when asking a question and they didn’t decide to jump on the inflation bandwagon to raise rates to a crazy degree. Good crab cakes, the best fries chicken (I hope my actuary isn’t reading this) and keylime lime.

We ordered the big seafood tower and it was phenomenal! The portion of oysters and crab was so generous and fresh. I also think the pictures of the tower speak for themselves. We split the tower among two of us. Cannot recommend enough! Restaurant also had a wonderful nautical aesthetic ⚓

I've been coming here for years. Seafood is amazing for Michigan. And they have this awesome whiskey highball machine that makes awesome whiskey soda drinks. They also have a great large screen TV setup.

Lastly, they have an amazing back room for hosting parties. Had my 40th birthday party here and all the out of owners were raving.

Excellent seafood and overall restaurant. Beautiful space with high ceilings, great location on Woodward and Maple, friendly service, great drink selection, and delicious food. Love the lobster rolls they have. As someone who summered in Maine growing up, I can say that the lobster rolls here are as good as any outside Portland, Maine. I have only positive things to say about the food, beverages, and atmosphere here.

The one issue I have concerns their payment experience. When I last ate there, they gave me a mobile Point of Sale (PoS) card reader for me to pay with my card, which we are all accustomed to. After paying for the meal, however, I was honestly surprised to discover that their three default tip options were exceptionally high—well above those of any other restaurant or bar that I have personally encountered. If I recall correctly, the three default tipping options were 25%, 30%, and 35%.

Typically, these mobile point of sale payment systems provide default tipping options that range from 15-18% on the low end all the way up to 22-30% on the highest end. These are the generally accepted tipping options in America today.

So, I was frankly pretty surprised to be presented with these three default tipping options after paying for our meal here recently. I understand that this is a great restaurant in a nice location, and that these factors perhaps influenced management’s decision to some extent to implement these specific tipping options. That is totally fine and is their prerogative. On the other hand, as a customer who enjoys both seafood and going out to eat, I felt a bit put off by that whole thing.

Nonetheless, this is an excellent restaurant that I would definitely recommend to anyone nearby looking for great, fresh seafood.

Hazels has been a favorite restaurant for me and my husband since we moved to the area so when we were considering a spot for our baby shower, we knew we wanted to have it here and it was everything I could’ve hoped for!!

Kat and Olivia were great to work with, service the day of was amazing, and the FOOD!! We picked our own buffet items and went with lobster rolls, crab cakes, and French toast (along with the charcuterie platter, mimosa bar, eggs, and potatoes)…it’s been a week and I still have guests telling me how amazing the food was. Some saying the best of any shower or wedding they’ve ever been to. Olivia (Head Kitchen/Pastry Chef) also handled our desserts - custom sugar cookies, cake pops, and a cake. Incredible. Also so convenient that we could do our entire food order in one place.

All this to say that I can’t recommend Hazels enough for your private event or Saturday night dinner. They remain at the top of our list of favorite restaurants!!

We attended a private event in their back room - quite a lovely space for entertaining about 50 people standing; maybe less if were were all seated? It's a perfect space for a networking event and very conveniently located close to the Peabody St parking garage. Quick in and out, especially for happy hour in Birmingham. There was a buffet table of appetizers, all of which were delicious, so I look forward to coming back and trying more items from the menu. The lemon aioli on the crab cakes was phenomenal, and everything tasted really fresh and yummy. Servers were attentive and friendly, the wine was excellent and the cocktails were crafted with homemade mixers and were nice and balanced. A great experience.

One of our favorite spots for Florida in Michigan. My husband grew up in Florida and we love spending time there enjoying all the fresh seafood. Hazel’s is our quick fix when we cannot just fly there - and they have a winter crab special menu which is beyond fresh and delicious (we had the sweet stone crab, which was awesome). Highly recommend the alligator bites, the grouper and the whitefish pate…but in reality we didn’t really go wrong with anything we’ve had. Lastly, I don’t know of many restaurants that make Georgian cheese bread around metro Detroit (maybe it’s my ignorance), but Hazel’s does, complete with mixing the cheese and egg yolk at the table. Great brunch option, and excellent for bigger groups.

Went for dinner last night and was really impressed the minute we walked in - very cool nautical vibe.
The bar set up is big and friendly with a huge tv. I was surprised by how casual the restaurant part was. Big long tables you’d eat a crab boil at type tables - but it's a seafood house - so there you go! Food was great - super fresh shrimp, crab, lobster & calimari.
Our server was fantastic, explained everything & we will definitely be back. A++ 👍🏼🍤🦀🦞🐙⚓

My husband and I were just complaining about missing the casual but quality west coast seafood restaurants since moving out to Michigan and stumbled across this place online. We ended up there during happy hour and ordered everything off the happy hour menu except the wings and a Caesar salad. Why didn’t we know about this place sooner. Definitely made the shirt list. It wasn’t pretentious but everything was stellar. Our cocktails were perfectly balanced to boot. Plus their ice they used in the water and cocktails was amazing. Decor was on point. Can’t wait to come back

The seafood is amazing! I loved the lobster roll and garlic fries. We had to order the wrecking ball for dessert and split it 6 ways. Amazing service! So attentive.

Had the pleasure of dining at Hazel’s this afternoon. Our party of two dined mid afternoon on a Saturday and there was no wait. Very friendly and welcoming staff, bravo! We started with a Sonaza Beaches cocktail, crab cake app. For our meal we ordered a Connecticut buttered lobster roll (best we’ve had outside of New England!) and fish and chips (no frills, cooked to perfection!) and finished with the Banoffee pie (Graham cracker crust, toffee, banana and whipped cream goodness). Def worth a visit!

This place is amazing, some of the freshest oysters I’ve had in Michigan. I like to go during happy hour for their half off oysters, you really can’t beat it. They also have great lobster rolls, and if you’re not craving seafood, their burger and half chicken fried are great alternative options.

Wonderful! Some of the best seafood I’ve had and best in the Midwest. The restaurant has a new menu every three months so I’m excited to go back soon!

We had the oysters for a starter and split the lobster roll. Amazing. Even my husband who doesn’t like oysters enjoyed it with the horseradish sauce. For entrees we had the snow crab and fish and chips. The bibs for the crab really made the experience. We got the wrecking ball for dessert- ice cream covered in chocolate chips, pretzels, candy, etc.

If you love good seafood, then this is the place for you. We ordered oysters on the half shell, steamed crab, crab soup and crab cake. All yummy! I highly recommend going during happy hour, 4-6 . Oysters and drinks are half off. A great deal! Mike, our server, did an excellent job!

Hazel’s is a favorite of mine and my friends. We just celebrated our friend’s birthday and everything was wonderful. Shay was our server, and as usual was terrific. I have a gluten issue and she very willingly double checked items for me. We had salads, crab cakes, lobster bisque, and the fried chicken. Everything was amazing. The blackened shrimp salad was filling. The fresh made desserts were a perfect ending to our meal.
