Gullah Gourmet

We stopped in today to the new Gullah Gourmet shop on James Island. What a delightful shop and owner. The owner is a lifelong resident of Charleston and has grown this business from the ground up. Everything is uniquely displayed and created in house. This is a must shop stop! Kudos for her entrepreneurship!

Was excited to see Gullah Gourmet on James Island now! Nice and close to home. Met the owner, Debbie, she was so helpful! We picked out several items for my friends visiting from the north. This business has been around for over 25 years and I look forward to supporting them in the future!

Absolutely love Gullah Gourmet!! The best store in Charleston! Some of my most complimented pieces in my home have come from this store! All of the food is absolutely to die for! Can’t say enough positive things about Debbie and Gullah Gourmet! If you are in Charleston definitely stop by! The fragile items I’ve gotten in the past have always been packed and shipped carefully and quickly!

I tasted and bought the she crab soup at "Christmas in the South." I never even thought to wonder if the owners were Gullah, white, black or whatever. You don't have to be Italian to use garlic, oregano and other Italian spices to cook Italian food. As far as profiting off of someone's ideas or recipes every race has done this. It's a free market out there. They just happened to think of it first and it's delicious.

This is a wonderful place to shop and get delightful gifts and wonderful food! The only reason most people are leaving negative reviews are to be hateful because of the name! Shame on them! I have never thought anything derogatory about the Gullah Gourmet. I have only seen it as a way for the owner to pay homage and celebrate the Gullah community. Why must individuals twist things and make them negative. As the old saying goes “Some see the glass half empty, some see it as half full.”

Gullah Gourmet has a beautiful gift shop with quality products like the best oyster knives, sweetgrass baskets and even olive oil infused hand soap and hand cream. Wedding and housegift items abound and of couse, their signature Gullah food mixes, jams and jellies complete the Gullah Gourmet experience!

I buy their mixes/product ANYWHERE I see it in VA. IT IS AMAZING! We love the shrimp and grits, the she crab soup, the hallelujah pasta, crab dip, geeche peach cobbler and more! We have never been disappointed and we're pretty 'foodie'.

Bought gifts for 6 families, and they boxed them in a nice gift box. They then shipped the to all 6 families. They’re the best! Great gift ideas. Buy local.

Best, most consistently high grade products I’ve ever encountered. “Up popped de debil” might also be the best hot sauce I’ve come across💥
