This was an amazing history Lesson. On a long gravel road to the middle off nowhere it seems but once arriving there you see the cannon ball that was shot from The union warship “The Rattler”! The cannon ball is still housed in the bricks of the old church where it landed. Although the church is no longer used a glimpse in the window takes you back in time the old pews still where they were then. A lot of informational signs are. Affixed around the church to get the whole picture. The small town has not many residents but you can still see the remains of old buildings that were stores, post office and banks back in the day. Nice trip if your in the area

Here's a cool place to check out. This town is Rodney and it is claimed to be a ghost town. This church has a lot of history and was fired on during the Civil War.

If you love ghost towns, American history and turn of the century architecture, you are in for a treat!! My husband brought me for my 37 birthday. I couldn't have asked for a better day. Don't let the Google searches fool you: this isn't just two churches, it's a whole town. Behind the brick church, on the hill is a massive... and I mean massive... cemetery with an incredible past. WEAR BOOTS IN WARM WEATHER! I cannot stress this enough. There are timber rattlers in areas, please be smart. Go check it out and donate to the preservation society. And please, for the love of all that is sacred, treat this place with care and dignity.

Our grandkids loved seeing the cannonball in the front of the church. Not the easiest place to get to but definitely worth the effort and time.

Went with a tour guide as the roads are almost impassable, especially if you are driving an RV. Was given great historical information about the church as it is being restored.

Is nobody going to talk about the "people" roaming around the woods in pitch black darkness?
