It is closed for construction improvements but you can walk around it. It's down a long dirt road so smaller cars might have issues if raining.

this is a historic place that is unlike any other I have seen. first of all the road to it is worth the trip itself. maybe the best example of a sunken roadbed that you'll see. ok, really, its just an old wagon trail, but most cars and trucks will manage when it is dry. they have built a parking lot for it now too, so its not as hard to visit as it used to be. the house has been restored recently and is in good shape now. but still very spooky late in the afternoon, especially in the attic. very, very authentic. no population around it for miles. no sign other than your car that you are not right back in 1863. very beautiful old trees around it. visit and enjoy. don't mistreat, and above all, don't let fools know about it. stupid people don't read, so I am not worried about this tipping any of them off. years ago, it had spray painted vandalism all over it. now there is a caretaker, so it stays in good shape. history should never be forgotten, not even our nations own very ugly history.

Absolutely unreal! Bullet holes from the battle! You've got to visit this place! Hardly anyone knows about it. Road to it is not marked well. On route to Windsor from port Gibson keep left at first church on left and go several miles

My son and I love coming here. It's a beautiful place and lots of history to be remembered. We love the area and have great adventures when we go.

Recommend access in foot as the road is updated and may require 4 wheel drive depending on the rain making the road muddy.

Well worth the trip although hard to get there. Must be 4WD if the weather is bad.

I would not at this time recommend anyone waste their time at this place. First of all, it is extremely hard to find. If it were not for the helpful folks at the visitor center I would have never located it. Secondly, the roads are in very poor condition. Unless you are in a four-wheel-drive vehicle or a pick up truck it is not worth the effort. Once we finally arrive there, the house was closed, a sign said renovations were in progress, but it was evident that no work had been done there within years. The house was empty and mildewed, boards mostly rotten, and the yard overgrown. Even once a year mowings would’ve helped, but that is not the case
