Could get lost in the winding stacks of books for hours. The store assistant, Kiki, the black cat, is excellent company. With every turn there are more books and beautiful murals. The children and young adults section is phenomenal. Extensive options in very genre, sub genre and speciality.

One of the best bookstores I’ve visited in the Chesapeake Bay so far! Great selection and organized seamlessly. I was on the lookout for local authors and Chesapeake Bay specific writing, and they had a really great selection of both – historic and contemporary.

Very neat, loved the atmosphere and the books, and ESPECIALLY Keke. Will be coming back every time I’m in Maryland.

This is the most unique bookstore ever! You walk in the front door expecting a small store with some old books...but don't be fooled. It's much larger than you'd expect. It has little nooks, separate halls a section for children and beautiful old chairs to settle in as you peruse the thousands of books. I actually got turned around a few times! Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful staff and an adorable cat who likes to watch over the place. If you love books... you'll love The Bookplate.

My wife and I love coming to this shop. Its one of the few in Chestertown that you can just keep coming back to and never get tired of it. They have a huge selection of books, and they are all dirt cheap compared to new. Most are in really good condition too. The only downside is I have to stop to pet the cat that wonders the store every time I see her...

The store owner knows and treats his books like friends. The store, at the time, was stock piled with new arrivals so it had that mad scientist feel to it. The shop has a great kids section with chairs placed in corners inviting you to get lost in a few chapters. A nice change from the chain stores. Great personal feel. Looking forward to many more stops and conversations.

Wonderful book store where you feel rewarded by being curious in exploring what's there. Quite a variety of offerings here, from new best sellers to antique printings to local interests- something for everyone!
Always surprising finds and a helpful staff.
Really worth exploring!

Two notes that might matter to some visitors:
1. Entrance has stairs. For those with mobility considerations, entering can be a problem. Staff are really wonderful about working to find what you're looking for and helping out. But entering/navigating the space might present difficulties.
2. Kiki the cat! Kiki is the resident cat of the store. She will give you your space and complements the character of the store. Know that there's a cat in premises in case your have allergies.

Fantastic used bookstore. Wide variety of genres, from signed first editions to trade paperbacks. Robust schedule of readings and talks. Friendly resident cat, awesome staff. They also sell majolica pottery made especially for them. Worth the trip to Chestertown!

A really cool store with a lot of wonderful and surprising books, as well as strategically placed comfortable armchairs. Most books are lightly used...I even have some of them myself!

Any good ocean or bay town needs best have good books and coffee if they want five stars from my posts. I rarely rate a place unless it is a four or five. Average places abound, but fours and fives are the backbone of travel. A four or five means you can relax enough to enjoy.

Bookplate is a solid five!

Well organized, abundantly stocked, friendly owner and staff. There were enough books in every category to sate the hungriest of bibliophiles. Gobs and gobs of history (a waning section for most); and, the most luxurious and relevant sections on poetry I have seen to date.

Fiction, local interests, children's books all present and rich. A nautical section and even PIRATE BOOKS.

Stop in and WELCOME HOME. A must on your trip.

This shop is a happy place. They'll do special orders, you can ALWAYS find a good book or 5 there. Such a broad and impressive collection of books, you could spend a good portion of a day there.
