Bop Shop Records

What a phenomenal shop. I only had time to check out one record shop on a recent trip to Rochester, and everybody told me this was THE one to visit. I'm glad I listened. I planned to just pop in to check it out, but I stayed for well over an hour and I left with a stack of gems, including copies of Maggot Brain, New Grass, and Scheherazade on Living Stereo that were all in great condition, and sounded just wonderful once I got them home and played them. The proprieters were really nice and informative and a lot of fun to talk to. These guys love records, and even more so, they love music. I've encountered a few truly wonderful record shops, like Atomic in LA, or Jerry's here in Pittsburgh, and Bop Shop is in many ways even better than those other venerable joints. Everything out for sale was in really remarkable condition, and that isn't always true in other shops. Discogs has altered the whole landscape of vinyl shopping, but places like Bop Shop offer an experience that is more fun and thrilling in a way that online shopping can't ever re-create.

Friendly staff. Clean and well organized! Owner Tom treated us like Family! Showed us the process of how they clean all the used vinyl. Highly recommend buying vinyl there!

Great record store. Love Tom, Jan, and the whole staff. Incredible quality in Tom’s vinyl curation and the music knowledge there is as good as it gets. Definitely an essential stop for collectors and music lovers.

Haven’t gotten the chance to see this place in person, however, I saw this place on Social media and decided to give this place a chance by calling and inquiring a record that was on the wall, Blue Train. Bill, made this transaction so smooth, they grade their record with absolute precision. I cannot complain, I am amazed for the price and the condition, love it. Usually record stores never really do these type transactions but this place is so flexible and knowledgeable, especially Bill, when it comes to Blue Note Lps. Hopefully, in the near future, I can make the hike to Rochester, NY. Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend!

One of the best records stores I’ve ever been to. Bob, the owner, could easily be mistaken for a music enciclopedia that speaks thanks to some of the scariest AI technology around. Be prepared to be overwhelmed: their stacks are not only heftily stocked, but carefully curated to open the musical horizons of even the most knowledgeable aficionado of any genre. Great selection to choose from and amazing music playing while you shop!

I have been shopping at the Bop Shop for my eccentric taste in vinyl since 1987. By far the best shop for vinyl in Rochester. The vinyl is well organized, the quality is excellent and the prices are fair. If you don't see what you are looking for, ASK! The staff is highly knowledgeable and they have a back area & huge basement with tens of thousands of additional pieces of vinyl. Great source for special orders of harder to find new releases and re-releases as well.

Incredible depth of inventory and now, again, back in vinyl ! They found a CD for me I had been searching for, for two years.

This is the best record store in Rochester and it doesn't need fluff or incense to be the best. Tom has been hitting it hard for 40 years and he's got the road miles and albums to prove it. Also, the most personable record store owner around, by far. You'll find pretty much whatever you're looking for at Bop Shop. The store has integrity and a lot of great albums. First stop on your record crawl, for sure.

My favorite spot to buy vinyl in Rochester. Tom has a fantastic, varied selection that spans genres and decades. Looking for something obscure? This is your place. Even better - Tom is a great, welcoming guy who also brings great live shows to the area.

This place is awesome! I recently moved to the area from NYC so I’m still discovering new places to buy records. Of course everyone talks about Record Archive which is a great place but I happened upon Bop Shop accidentally about a month ago and it’s been my go-to ever since. The selection there is the best around! Every time I’m there I find something I’ve been hunting down for a while. Even got me an original pressing of London Calling in FANTASTIC condition last time I was there. Staff is very helpful and welcoming as well.
