I've been a volunteer with the center for the past two years helping to staff the crisis hotline and chat. During that time I've had the pleasure of getting to know some of the staff at the center. I've found them to all be incredibly supportive and passionate about their work. All of the services provided by the center are free to clients including advocacy, medical forensic exams, and individual therapy (restricted to MSU affiliated people). In my experience the staff are truly caring and want the best for clients. Staff and volunteers are also extremely careful about protecting client confidentiality. My experience as a volunteer has been incredibly rewarding and staff at the center are a major reason for that. I would highly recommend Center for Survivors as a place to volunteer and based on my experience clients generally have very positive experiences as well.

My experience is the same. Just something set up to say "we have advocacy and services to victims and we're changing the culture" not to make a difference or even offer anything at all. Their main number does not answer then was connected with someone who said ahe wouldn't be available the following day and for the next week when I said I need help and support with the legal system and someone to be with me at the police interview. Then why are you contacting me to be my advocate? I reached out to another service, spoke with the advocate and signed release forms so she could be with me at the police interview while I was still waiting on msu to connect me with a real advocate willing to help! Go elsewhere.

They will promise you a bunch of advocation but not deliver, the sympathy is faked because the advocates are paid hourly and often times why they will fake sympathy like saying “I’m worried about your safety so I’m going to check in on you” but they don’t cuz once that clock hits 5 they aren’t paid this is also why it can or may “take a while to get a response for your case” it earns them more money and the line is not anonymous, they will accuse you of harassment quickly for asking for help. They cover for sexual harassment and deem it “not important” and will attack you personally and put words into your mouth for standing up for yourself. They refuse to return calls in a timely manner. Some are good but most just want a check the complements and validation without giving you any. The only reason this review got one star is because of Judy who is kind and another anonymous individual from the crisis line who actually cared
