Quaint and darkly lit Irish style pub with privacy booths. Nice place to relax and have a couple drinks in near darkness. Enjoyed the ambience.

Great bartender, cool spot. If we weren't so old and tired, we would've stayed for more than one beer.

Kevin is an amazing bartender and can tell some very entertaining stories. A nice chill atmosphere. A nice local venue close to home to frequent.

Literally my favorite bar in the world. The bartender gave me a Guinness with a heart in the foam. I met the love of my life there. All good.

My wife and I spent one night in Portland, started our evening brewery/bar tour at The Snug. We were there early (4pm) on a Friday, so the place was pretty empty. The appearance of the place is cool, but nothing too special. What made this place worthy of 5 stars from me was hands down the bartender, Michelle. Within 15 minutes of meeting her she'd accused me of picking a fight with her, called my wife and I the "C-word" about 10 times, obsessed over pictures of our dog, and discussed with me the finer points of performing oral sex on men. I was at first totally intimidated, and then completely in love with this woman. We weren't there long.....only time for a couple of beers each before we headed onto the next stop. To top it all off, we only paid $1 per beer! Next time I'm in Portland, Michelle will be receiving a visit from me!!

Whist the East End/Munjoy Hill is often referred to as the 'hippest' part of town, there's a lack of nightlife, compared with the rest of Portland. The Snug is diamond in the rough. A real locals bar, that's nothing fancy, just... friendly. It's the kind of place you can go by yourself and have great conversations with complete strangers.

They have 12 taps on draft, with a nice mix; many of them local. The wine and spirits selection is your typical mix. The bar staff are awesome. Some nights Kiki is tending bar, very friendly, earthy and chill. Other nights, Michelle tends bar; winner of pretty much every award for Best Bartender in Portland for the last 7 years. She's brash, in your face, hilarious and not for the timid, though she's aware, so if she see's you're uncomfortable, she'll likely give you a break... or just turn it up!

There's no food here, but OTTO Pizza is next door, so you can grab a slice and bring it to the bar. Music is chill, and varied. The Snug has an old school vibe. It's low light, fairly long bar, and small nooks makes it varied, but warm and inviting.

It's always open until 1am, unlike other bars in Portland that close early if they're not so busy. Reason may be that it's also a service industry bar. If you go in early and stay late, you'll see waves of people coming in all through the night.

Whilst there is little competition on Munjoy Hill, it would still hold it's own if there were more options in the area.

I don't want to review it because then y'all will come. It's nice, quiet. No food but BYO is allowed.

The only bar we went to in the area that when we asked if they had chips or snacks they happily provided a little skillet of pretzels. I would pay for chips or something to snack on when out but no place provides that.

Michelle is amazing! We had an amazing time. Enjoyed the drinks and the atmosphere!
