My friend Doug’s favorite place to get a tenderloin.

My friend Doug has family that lives in Ohio. Doug lived in Illinois but eventually moved back to Ohio. During his long time in Illinois, he got to enjoy some of local delicacies. One of those things turns out to be tenderloins. He mentioned that in Ohio, tenderloins are hard to come by. As in, they are impossible to find.

So, it has become tradition that when Doug comes here to visit, we visit The Galley so Doug can get his tenderloin fix. This particular visit wasn’t with Doug but because of him, I am pretty familiar with the place. Instead, I came here with my dad who hadn’t been here since I was in my teens.

We grabbed a seat and poured over the menu. I wasn’t sure what my dad was going to order but I knew I had to get a tenderloin. Doug’s tradition wore off on me, it seems. We placed our orders and small talked while waiting for our food.

Part of the cool thing about The Galley is the artwork on the walls. Or, the artwork is the wall. Sadly, I don’t have any photos to show you what I am talking about but one of the main walls is a landscape painting of the Peoria skyline. If/when I go back, I will take some photos of the interior and update this post.

It wasn’t too long before our food came out. The tenderloin looked fantastic as it always does. We dug in to appease the growling that was growing in our bellies. I can say that the food tasted as good as it always does. The tenderloin is your usual giant slab of deep-fried meat that is 7x too large for the bun. You comically have to nibble at the tenderloin’s circumference until you have it down to a size that allows you to get some bun and toppings with each bite. At that point, you break out in a bit of a meat sweat as you wonder if you have the room in your belly for the actual sandwich. Add in the fact that you downed half an order of fries during this entire time and you know you are going to loosen your pants before the meal is done.

The food here is pretty dang good. I’ve only ever had the tenderloin from what I recall so I can only vouch for that, but if you are itching for a tenderloin experience, you can’t go wrong here. In fact, the whole place has a pub vibe to it. (I consider a pub to be a bar that has a full menu to order from.) You can sit at the bar to enjoy your meal or you can bring the family to one of the many tables they have. Overall, a pretty neat experience from a place that looks unassuming from the main road.

I’m anxiously awaiting Doug’s return to Illinois so we can get our usual tenderloins at The Galley.

East Port Galley Restaurant is absolutely amazing! They have the absolute best homemade tenderloin in the area. The onion rings are awesome and the sweet potato fries are thick and perfectly cooked! I would give 10 stars if it was possible. Definitely will be back.

My husband and I ate there on July 9th. We got there around 430-5pm. Our waitress/bartender was very friendly and prompt, there were other tables and she checked every table to see if everything was ok. The other waitress was on break. She was just very friendly and busy, but always had a smile. Our tenderloin sandwiches were cooked just right and just the right size, not real big. Fries were good and my husband’s beer was cold. We will recommend and will be back.

Really nice bar/restaurant. Food was well prepared and served quickly. Friendly staff and a wide variety to chose from on the menu. Prices reasonable and they cater to the whole family. I had salmon which was served with a cause on the side that really made a difference. Wife had two fish fillets,
which was plenary for one person. We will return. Have had breakfast here also which was very good also.

This place is a local legend. The fish and chips are the greatest in the Peoria area. Always a great place to catch all the games as they have big screens all around. The waitstaff has always been awesome. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy when the owners know my name and say hello. Go see why I left 5 stars and you'll love it!!!!

We went to the Galley today for lunch. We will be back soon! Everything was delicious. The chili was really tasty, the reuben was great, the lunch size tenderloin was perfect. The icing on the cake was the frosted glasses offer for the Alaskan Ambers. Even the fresh one for the second round. Staff was top notch! Great experience all the way around.

This place is great for bar food. The onion rings are very good and they give you a big portion. I have never been disappointed in the food and the service is also always good and the atmosphere is family friendly. The food is also reasonably priced for what you get.

We were going to go to Avanti's which we like alot. I decided to go to The Galley since I hadn't been there in a very long time, not sure why, lol. We went there for lunch little after 11. Our waitress greeted us right away. We all went with $5.95 lunch specials, it's a great price for what you get! I had the small homemade tenderloin with seasoned fries. Best tenderloin I've ever had. Fries were good also. My husband had coleslaw which he had me try. It was the best coleslaw I've had too. He said his loaded chili dogs were good. Our daughter got tenderloin with pasta salad. She said pasta salad was very good. Our waitress was great & very friendly. I HIGHLY recommend "The Galley". We will definitely make this one of our favorite restaurants.

We came in, mid-afternoon for a late lunch on a Saturday. I had the tenderloin and sweet potato fries and a couple $2.50 Bloody Mary's. Both the food and drinks were excellent. My wife got the jumbo shrimp.
I couldn't stop looking at the mural of the Peoria skyline painted on the wall. It was a nice touch.
