Funks Grove Nature Preserve

One of my most favorite places to visit in central Illinois, a great way to teach children outdoors and environmental nature, ample parking

What a really neat place to discover. Lots of great hiking trails and activities for kids to get out into nature as well as have fun. A bit off the beaten path, but a worthwhile stop in you are road tripping with kids.

Beautiful area to explore and hike through. The church in Funks Grove, built in 1865, is a great example of period architecture. It is in superb condition.
Well worth visiting in any season!

We love to go explore here, my dog gives it 5 stars as well. The grounds are kept pretty neat, although whoever runs an atv on them is ruining one side when it rains.
Definitely is a location for boots and a mindset of dirt is okay.
The kids area is very nice and seems to get better each year.

Lots of ticks in the tall grasses/on trees so bring bug spray to spray on your shoes, socks and waist and wear light colored clothes to spot them on you easier.

Funks Grove is awesome place to visit with the whole family. It's especially beautiful in the fall with all the colors. On the nature walk you never know what you might see. Deer are plentiful at the nature preserve.

Absolutely love this place. Has some private, nice trails. Very neat parkour for kids too! Great for walking your dog, or a nature exploration.

I just love hiking here. When you go into the wooded area you notice a temp drop. On a hot day of 90 degrees, it feels cool enough for a hike.

This a great place for walking. It has a variety of trails you can hike on. There's lots of beautiful scenery along the way, and an Imagination Grove area for kids with a zipline and tree climbing! The trails are different lengths and are easy to walk on. The paths are mostly wide except for a few spots. Anyone can enjoy hiking here!

Imagination Grove is wonderful for kids of all ages. The nature center is too! And the trails are a great slice of natural beauty. Their events are great. Also, we’ve had good luck holding a birthday party at the shelter house/large campfire ring. Love this place.

No complaints, it's kept clean as well. May be the play area is dark and may need lighting.

Great place to chill or take a hike! The Nature Preserve is very nice. The wind blowing through the trees and the birds singing...we love it! For kids of all ages.

This is a nice short drive from the Bloomington/Normal area. The nature center and area has a few nice exhibits, mainly for the younger population but it's nice to go inside the nature center and check out the wildlife they have. The bird viewing area is nice to sit down and rest for a few. The nature center staff is always friendly and they upkeep the grounds very well. The trails are ok, nothing too exciting but they're nice for around here. Also not far from the nature center is the Funk Home and gem/mineral museum they give free tours, or at least used to and it's a pretty cool place to visit, however you have to call and set up an appt. Another cool place to visit is where they make the maple sirup, the best time to visit is around April/May when it's being made so you can check out the process and get some fresh maple sirup, they usually run out around August.

One of the most beautiful natural places in the county. Lots of big old oak and maple trees and several miles of wide trails. Just a warning they can get pretty muddy though

This is such a lovely place for a hike and a picnic!
