Harpole's Heartland Lodge

Just completed my first bird hunt. Our company has been coming here for a number of years and I was a guest this year. I have done many trips to various lodges fishing but this, by far, is a top notch facility. Amenities, staff, food, lodging - they run a phenomenal business. Hunts were great. Knowledge and SAFE guides. Highly recommended and will be back.

I just completed a 3 day whitetail hunt, and Heartland Lodge exceeded every expectation. Melissa was friendly and helpful when checking us in, and gave detailed info on how to find our room and what to expect for the weekend. The lodge was exceptionally clean, and well maintained. Matt, Noah, Silas, and the rest of the guides put us in the best position to shoot. Chef Terry made sure we did not go hungry, and even made us lunches to take hunting so we could stay out all day. The food was 10/10 and everything was made from scratch. Gary Harpole was friendly and present throughout the whole weekend, and made sure every guest had exactly what they needed. I highly recommend Heartland Lodge to anyone looking for their next hunting adventure.

Nestled in Pike County, surrounded by the bluffs of Illinois River is a beautiful hunting lodge; styled with warm wood furniture and floor, multiple fireplaces, a downstairs game room that includes: a pool table, books, puzzles-and a large tv. We stayed in the Buffalo Pond room,at the main lodge. Nicely decorated with a huge bed and a pullout couch. We chose a package which included a family style dinner and brunch the next morning. Food and fellowship with other guests, was a wonderful option package….speaking of packages, the lodge offers hunting and atv packages for your outdoor experience. Check in was smooth, parking across the road, and even included a little welcome basket filled with sweet treats, upon arrival to our room.

This was my first lodge stay and guided hunt experience and it is going to be hard to top. Guide Ben Kuhn and his dogs were on point! (Pun intended!) Ben was very knowledgeable and his dogs were great. Gary and the staff at Heartland were awesome and made us feel like family. This was a business trip but I will definitely plan a stay/hunt in the future with my family.

Harpole’s Heartland Lodge is a first class facility from start to finish… We booked an bow hunt , had many opportunities at great bucks although I didn’t harvest one , I did get in a day of Pheasant hunting which was incredible. Great guides Alex for deer and Chris for Pheasant, the accommodations are five star along with some of the kindest staff you could possibly ask for !!! Did I mention the food we had some of the finest meals I’ve ever eaten… highly recommend Harpole’s Heartland Lodge…….

What a wonderful hunting experience at Harpoles Heartland Lodge. Comfortable rooms, delicious home style meals, attentive staff and some of the best hunting guides . My upland hunt guide Jay was very knowledgeable, professional , along with his dynamic dogs , put me on the birds !!!! Also Had a good duck hunting adventure on the river with Bryan . I’m planning to return soon

Top notch pheasant hunting experience . Our guide Jim Schue on the last day was spectacular! All 3 pointers did their job well. Jim will run for the birds with you into the dark if you want for that last rooster! Lodging and every meal was fit for a king too! Never had more fun hunting in my life!

Matt was a phenomenal guide. Put my group on deer every single day despite temperatures in the high 80s most of our trip. We got to share camp with a fellow that got a 157” 12pt. Wanda and Gary are the absolute best hosts you could possibly ask for, and I cannot WAIT to take more friends and family hunting at Harpoles Heartland Lodge in the years to come! 5 stars hands down!

Kudos to Gary and the entire Heartland staff! My dad and I had an absolute blast during our two day upland hunt. Lodge, accommodations, food, plentiful birds and beautiful properties speak to the passion these folks have for family and tradition. Shout out to our two guides, Chris Shauffer and Jay Carr! These guys and their dogs were impressive to watch and a joy to be around - Thank You! Til next time…

Amazing trip! I have been to several outfiters all over and this is hands down the best.
The owner, Gary, met us the first night and visited with us most days at lunch. His mother runs the gift shop and is an absolute joy to be around. This place is Christian based and it shows. I really appreciated that part of the trip. The food was gourmet meals everytime, I gained 10 pounds. Now the hunting, I saw deer 80% of the time and it shows that these farms are managed at a high level. All guides seemed very knowledgeable and would sit and talk with us after morning hunts and before dinner, nothing better than talking deer hunting. Now our guide was Matt, I can not impress upon you how good he was not only at his guidance and knowledgeable but as a person. I went with three buddies and three of us booked again before we left. If you're looking for an amazing hunt from start to finish, always chose this group.

I just spent three days of the best upland bird hunting I’ve experienced. The fields and the birds were top-notch. My guide was Tim N. Tim was simply a pleasure and treated me as if we new each other for years!

The food, the lodging and the atmosphere were all exceptional.

Had a wonderful time at the lodge. The food and people I met made a relaxing time. I had Rod for a guide and what a blast. He and his dogs created a great hunting experience. He thought me a lot as well about bird tendencies and native grasses. Thanks again.

We spent four beautiful days in the Heartland lodge. Accommodation (we stayed in Labrador suit), service, food is amazing.
But the most amazing thing there is people that are doing everything to make your stay unforgettable.

If you plan to upland hunt with your son then requesting Conrad as your guide will be a great choice. Conrad is the type of man your son will aspire to emulate all while providing an amazing hunt behind his shorthair pointers. My 18 year old son and I spent three afternoons hunting with Conrad and he assisted in creating what I’m sure will be life long memories for us. Thank you Conrad.

Absolutely loved staying here for the weekend. If you have a side by side or four wheeler highly recommend booking a trip. Also when choosing to stay choose to get the meals they prepare. Some of the best food we have ever had. Not only is the staff kind and sweet but it truly has a family feel that we absolutely loved. Cannot wait to come back!

A very excellent experience in upland hunting. The accommodations and food were both outstanding and Brad Kelly my guide did an exceptional job. He and his dogs were great!

I hunted upland birds at Harpole for two days. I was part of a larger group from Oldfield. Our guide, Brad Kelly was excellent. One of the better guides in my 50 years of hunting. Brad explained the terrain, what to expect, emphasized safety and made our groups hunt one to remember! Looking forward to hunting with Brad in 2024. Mark Kasma, Oldfield

I've been having a blast relaxing and hunting with my wife. Great time doing an upland hunt today with R.J. Still have another 4 days of fun planned.
If your into bird hunting this place has been great. Got a half day and almost bagged out for the day with 2 people.

We stayed in the “all about the view room” we had a nice relaxing getaway. Make sure you sign up for the meals. Some of the best home cooked meals and desserts we have ever had.
