Funky little spot just outside town. Different seating areas inside and out. First visit, not crowded at all but it was Sunday. A hitch in the pastry delivery giddyup for the morning, but it's a Sunday. Iced coffee was on point.

The day I came to the coffee shop, I didn’t even expect to have anything because I do not consider myself a “coffee” drinker; I was just spending some time with my sister and she spoke highly of it being that I visiting. When is walked in the atmosphere was peaceful and so many creative art pieces. That was attraction for me there. I was greeted by the owner actually whom was very welcoming and open. Being that I didn’t expect to drink anything or know what to really get, she took time to ask me the things that I like and tastes I prefer and created a drink specific to my likes. I felt heard and understood- I can be complicated. I would recommend them to anyone who visits the area.,It was really a vibe. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to you city. I will be back when I visit again!

Present Day on Main is one of my favorite coffee shops in Carrboro! I hosted a welcome home and adoption/baby celebration for dear friends in the lovely outdoor space. The staff were wonderfully accommodating, providing everything we needed from a homemade gluten-free coconut cake to games to lighting and a fan. Their customer service is beyond exceptional! It was the perfect venue for our celebration.

Whether your alone or with friends, you can always find a sweet spot to sit outdoors surrounded by an incredible garden and spectacular local art or indoors, where the vibe is peaceful and the aesthetic is unlike anything else around. My family and I LOVE going to Present Day on Main! It's more than just a place for coffe and refreshments but it's a place of community and togetherness. The events they host are always inclusive with the goal of carefully knitting cultures and people together. I am grateful for the work and hope they create more locations to expand their reach/work

Great place! So cozy! They have a bunch of games to keep you entertained. Their coffee is delicious and there is a good amount of space both inside and outside. They only have pastries, so not a great place to go if you’re hungry, but if you’re down for scones, cookies and ice cream, this is your place!

Will definitely come back. My new favorite place in the Chapel Hill area.

This place is awesome! Soooo chill and comfy— perfect spot for working, studying, catching up with friends, and so on. My husband and I came here this afternoon, had tea, ate some of their delicious chocolate chip cookies, and played a really fun game from their stash of games. I love that this place is part coffee shop, part event space, and part local market. We bought local hot sauce and eggs from a nearby farm before we left. Excellent spot.

Such a great community spot. Very kind people work here; the customer service is always so good. They have been doing a great job with COVID guidelines too; there is plenty of outdoor space to utilize and a pickup window with contactless ordering. This is a favorite cafe of mine!

My first time coming to "Present Day on Main" (previously-Johnny's). Again, Carrboro has presented another of it's jewels. Attended a Board meeting with friends. What a blessing. There is parking, on a public transit bus stop. Indoor and outdoor seating. Artfully presented, private outdoor seating. Coffees, Teas, hot chocolate, pastries. Very personable, knowledgeable, host and Baristas. Great atmosphere with a community vibe. And while they last; get your live Christmas 🎄's. Come check this place out. You'll love it. Love this coffee shop. Away from the busy town, hidden in a nice rural area. Spacious for gatherings, study groups, etc. Large and small table settings. Private seating for studying. Cozy furniture. Outdoor beauty with lights and tables. Regular live music. GREAT coffee and treats, including GF items.

Love this place - great setting, good strong coffee and friendly staff. Really creative scone recipes too! Food other than pastries, popsivles, and ice cream is limited, just something to bear in mind. I also hear they have live music sometimes - have not checked that out yet but am looking forward to doing so!

Carrboro is a snobby expensive hipster town. Johnny's Gone Fishing is a welcome relief with fantastic coffee. It is a little old house that has been converted to a coffee shop. The dining room has a big table if you're meeting up with a large group of friends. The rest of the coffee shop/house is filled with comfy armchairs, local art, and musical instruments that anyone can pick up to play anytime. During the cooler summer months they have a huge outdoor space with patio furniture, lots of plants, and a comfortable atmosphere. Also, the coffee is delicious and the food they sell (sandwiches) are from local restaurants and are reasonably priced.

Edit:
This is my favorite coffee shop in town as well as my favorite place to hold an event. The peppermint mocha is phenomenal and the staff is super friendly and experienced. I came here on my first date with my husband due to the funky-fun-but-not-hipster-snob coffee shop atmosphere and it is what keeps bringing us back. When we were looking for a place to have our wedding of 30 guests, we decided upon Johnny's Gone Fishing! We didn't have to worry about bringing too many decorations since the cafe has the perfect ambience and set-up was easy. Renting JGF for a few hours was affordable and the staff went out of their way to make everything perfect for us. Our guests raved about the drinks, especially the tea selection.

Other highlights: They are very service animal friendly, there is a community garden outside, there is a good selection of food for both vegan and gluten free, lots of games to play for adults and kids, there are musical instruments for you to pick up and play, and an ongoing jigsaw puzzle you can drop in and work on.

My dad and I went in for an ice cream and to see what Johnny's was like. We enjoyed our visit very much. While working on our delicious ice cream, we shopped around, bought the YAWP bars I'd heard a lot about but had not seen in any other stores, picked up a bottle of wine that looked interesting, and wished I could have purchased some of the scarves and totes--so colorful and pretty! The salesperson was friendly and helpful and even took the time to give us a tour of the outside area. I hear they also sell local produce and plan to come when they have it. Seems to me they have chosen interesting vendors for food and all kinds of goods so it is a great place to frequent and see new things! Love the eclectic artworks and cushioned seats too!

Great coffee shop in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. Large space to lounge around and do work or simply zone out. Most of postings about safety and inclusion for all races genders and such. Great coffee too!

This place is extremely welcoming to anyone and everyone. The owners know what they’re doing in crafting a place that’s full of art, people, and good coffee. I highly recommend the Jan; it’s the sweet treat you want!

Certainly the most unique coffee shop in Chapel Hill-Carrboro. Inside an old house, this cozy place will fix you up with an excellent cup of coffee or tea and a comfy chair to boot! Great place to get work done or meet a friend.

I really love this spot. The cafe is a re-purposed house, so the space has a different feel than the other coffee places around town. They also have a range of chairs/sitting places, so you can change it up, depending on how you're feeling (Want a window seat today? Need a hard seat to keep you alert and focused? Perhaps a soft chair for chilling? Have a group of five or six people that you want to sit together? They've got all those options covered).

This would not matter as much if they didn't deliver on the caffeinated goods, and they do. I often get cortados, and they never disappoint. All the fancy latte and mocha drinks I have tried have been good. They also have an extensive (de)caffeinated tea list, and some nice pastries. The ice cream is also a sleeper hit--go for the coffee, stay for the dessert.

The staff of Johnny's is also a highlight. They are all super pleasant, and always make tasty drinks, even when things are busy. They host a range of weekly/monthly activities, and help make the space feel more unique and welcoming. Awesome local piano players come in once or twice a week to serenade your homework hours, too.

I obviously spend a lot of time at Johnny's, but it's because of all the reasons mentioned above. There are numerous other coffee shop options around Chapel Hill and Carrboro, but Johnny's trumps them all in my mind. It's a local and somewhat hidden place that never feels elitist. Your time and money is well spent here.

Scrambling to find an apartment this time of year, I noticed a listing mentioned "Walking distance to Present Day on Main". A Google search and a couple clicks later I was convinced one of the best things about that apartment really was its proximity to Present Day. I stopped in for the first time this morning for a spicy cinnamon mocha and wasn't disappointed. Great drink, kind people, tons of nooks (both outdoors and in) to find just the spot you're looking for. Thanks Present Day on Main. You fed my soul today.
