Gunnar and the team at Automotion were great to work with. Came in for a coilover swap out on my B5 S4 and the Automotion team got it all setup and dialed in nicely. Would recommend them to anyone in need of euro-car services in Chapel Hill.

Great folks. Brought my car in because rainwater was leaking into the cabin. Guy just fixed it right there (cleaned clogged drain), no fuss, no charge. Then my car wouldn't start (I need a new battery) and he was out there with a jump-starting rig before I even went to ask.

Short read:
Great service, honest, fair priced and the repair is done right the first time.

Long read:
I have been taking my BMW to Automotion for several years and found the service top-notch and priced fairly. Gunnar and his team are forthright about the issue and the cost of repairing it. Equally important, the issue is repaired properly the first time. I can't say I've had the same experience with other shops.

I also recently learned they repair Japanese-made cars. They have done great work on my Subaru with nearly 100,000K on it. Most recently, they fixed an issue caused by a squirrel chewing through wires. It was a potentially very expensive repair, but Dan found a way to fix it for a fraction of the price. I am grateful that Gunnar called first, proposed some options and then turned it over to Dan, who worked his magic.

Automotion has served as a reliable part of my car maintenance needs (BMW & Mitsubishi) for several years now (~10 visits). Their work is honest and straightforward. Their estimates usually land very close to the final bill. Their mechanics care very much about the cars they work on. If there are problems, they communicate promptly and effectively about what changes need to be made. I would recommend them to any who care about having a good experience while getting their car safely back on the road.

Gunner responds quickly and they did great work! 2007 Subaru needed a good bit of a work and they suggested the best and most economic way to deal with the repairs, which is what we were looking for. Brought it back in due a persistent transmission problem and they diagnosed it and took care of it. Honest mechanics and will always recommend them!

100% recommend for anybody, on a budget or otherwise. Gunner is a gem, we never did quite figure out what was exactly wrong with the car but he did a lot to fix the issues and help us know what to do when it acted up. He saw our car probably 20 times and always was patient, only charged when he did heavy duty work or replaced parts. Honestly, they are great with any kind of car. Thank you guys!!!

I have been going to these guys for the last 4 years and they have kept my 2002 Camry purring and in tip top shape, at affordable costs, and with honest service. Can't emphasize the "honesty" part more.

These guys just saved me $1800 after Chapel Hill Tire quoted me a $2400 price tag on several "broken" car parts that needed to be fixed to pass inspection. Came to my reliable mechanics at Automotion, Gunner took a look at the car, and told me that several things were either not broken at all or could be fixed without replacing the entire component (eg, the entire exhaust system). Fixed it for $560, passed inspection the next day.

Highly recommend and I'm lucky that I found them 4 years ago.

Gunnar is a hidden gem on the border of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. The service was excellent, Gunnar gave me total confidence that he understood my 2014 Mini Cooper Clubman and that I was in good hands. Everyone in the area (especially Mebane) should think of Gunnar and Automotion of Chapel Hill for all their needs Mini Cooper!

(There has been more work than is listed here but he does almost everything).
Great knowledgeable, honest local foreign car experts who have worked with our family’s early-mid 2000 BMWs for several years now. ✨Five ✨ stars!

I moved here a few months ago from Ohio and needed to find a car shop. After reading all the awesome reviews I decided to try this place out! Great decision! I called the day before to make an appointment and dropped it off the next afternoon. They had it for about 5 hours. Ronnie called to tell me i needed wipers too, which I thought was great of them to do instead of just doing it and charging me for it. The employees were all very nice! I'll definitely be back!!

Being a woman on a budget, it can be scary trying to find a new mechanic and shop that will be reasonable and not try to up-sell and overcharge for service. I always take time to comb through reviews on multiple sites before I make a decision. After much searching, I came across Automotion and was impressed by their reviews and feedback. They got me in right away the morning after I called. Within less than 1 hour, they were able to let me know what was going on and how much it would cost out the door. I was amazed at the price, worried it would be much higher! These guys are incredibly nice and honest - spoke to me like someone they have known for years. My car is still being worked on as I write this review, but I just couldn't wait to put this up so people can know a good shop when they need it. :)

Every time I come to Automotion they do a great job with good turn-around-time. I feel like everyone on staff knows my car and had a hand in its repairs, which is a very welcome change from big commercial places. They are professional, reasonably priced, and knowledgeable, which for a tricky VW is a must! Every single staff member has made me feel confident in their repairs. If you're looking for an honest mechanic team for your VW look no further than Automotion.

Finally got the chance to buy one of my dream cars, and now it's out of warranty. Thankfully I found Gunnar and Automation to take care of my car. They do terrific work for a reasonable price. I can now rest a bit easier.

I cannot believe its taken me 10 years to find this jewel of a car service garage! Probably because there are SO many to choose from in the area...and Ive used most!
This place was highly recommended by a new friend who raved about the service and cost. Ever the skeptic I decided to give it a shot, as Id had a number of high dollar estimates to sort out my broken down car and money was tight.

From the first moment I met Dan - Dan The Man indeed - who runs this place i felt i could trust him. He was knowledgeable and came across as an honest player...and is a truly nice guy. A rare combo!
I was dumbfounded but elated when I called back 2 hours later to pick up my now repaired car to discover he hadnt had to order the expensive parts the other garages had recommended - with the huge labor charges on top - and had discovered and fixed the problem for under $100!

Car has now run fine for 2 weeks and needless to say I now have found my 'garage for life'!

Do yourself a favor - check this place out.

I have taken both of my cars to Automotion recently and could not be happier about outcomes. Service was professional and friendly, reasonably priced, and expertly performed. Automotion will be my go-to in the future and I would definitely recommend to anyone else trying to find the same.

During the 2 years that I lived in Chapel Hill, I have only but positive remarks about Automotion. Gunnar has set up a team of professionally trained mechanics that provide nothing but exceptional service to their customers. There were two instances that exemplified both his expertise in the field and integrity with his clients and I want to share this with everyone.
1. Back in 2016, I took my vehicle to Automotion for a routine oil change. A few hours later, Gunnar called me back to warn me that a hose was leaking and needed to be replaced. He recommended me to leave the car with them for the rest of the day to save me some money as it would require additional labor hours if I came back at a later time to get it fixed. He was right about this as the hose end up breaking in his shop while being fixed and showed me how much he truly cared about customer well-being.
2. Earlier this year, my car's starter malfunctioned a day before a big trip out of town. Since my car was immobilized, I was afraid that I would have to cancel my trip or book a rental car. Instead, Gunnar and his team worked with me to get the car shipped to shop while the parts were being purchased. A few hours later, his team had already fixed my car and delivered it to me at 5PM, just a few hours before I was planning to originally leave. Furthermore, instead of charging me a surcharge for the emergency situation, he charged me the same labor rate as usual and showed to me once again that he truly cares about keeping his customers happy.
If anyone lives around the Chapel Hill area and owns a BMW, visiting Automotion is a must if you want to get top notch work on your car at an excellent price.

I had my (manual) 2003 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro serviced at Automotion in Carrboro recently. I was very happy with the excellent work done on my car (the following items needed replacing: oil uptake screen/tube, oil pump & oil level sensor).
In addition, I was extremely pleased by how I was treated as a (female) customer (who btw truly knows how my engine mechanically works!). The owner Ronee Fontazzi patiently answered every concern I had about my car and I felt he genuinely cared to give me the best possible service at a very fair price. The mechanics at Automotion truly know their Imports and are excellent! I completely trust them to work on my "frustrating" German car! Likewise, you will be treated professionally with kindness, politeness, much humbleness, and respect. ALL the reasons I won't bring my Import vehicle to any of the other shops in Carrboro or Chapel Hill- They need to take a lesson in how to establish a true customer service relationship from Mr. Fontazzi. Thank you Ronee for not losing this old school approach after 35 years in business nor forgetting the REAL importance of this. Great experience all the way around. I will surely be back!

Gunner did a fantastic job replacing the fuse box on my 2012 Mini Cooper. Very competitive pricing also.

I ONLY take my cars to Garner & Automotion! It is truly hard to find a mechanic you can trust these days. Garner is 100% trustworthy, reasonably priced, and a great mechanic!
