The Spanish Bakery & Cafe (Salcedo Kitchen)

Love this place. From the most amazing Cuban sandwiches to the spicy and yummy mustard sauce this little eatery is hidden away on Saint George Street. Don’t forget the baked goods too! Sit out side under a cypress tree (way inland for it actually) and enjoy the beautiful florida weather.

From the very first time that my family ate there, around 20 years ago, we were hooked.
I've never been a fan of soup, but the soups from here are just amazing. Even as a teen on vacation with my family, this spot was on the list that I wanted to visit every time.
Now that I'm an adult, I carry that tradition on, because it's just that good.

My husband and I were in St Augustine taking in the sights. We decided to get lunch and happened upon this little gem of a cafe tucked behind the pedestrian walkway. What a wonderful meal we had! Veggie empanadas, butternut squash soup, salad, beans and rice, and a roll. It was all amazing, but that butternut squash soup was my favorite! Service was excellent and it sits back enough off the main walkway that it was quiet. Shaded, outside seating added to our perfect first experience with Spanish food. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The Cuban sandwich is delicious. The beef empanada was pretty good, you MUST put the hot sauce on the empanada and rice and beans for the best flavor!! The datil mustard is delicious on the Cuban. Recommend for a quick bite. There are plenty of tables with umbrellas.

Tony and I stopped at the Spanish Bakery & Cafe on George's Street in St Augustine Florida. I talked briefly with the lady baker asking her about the Cuban loaves of bread. The aroma alone needs to be incorporated into a candle. I would buy a candle that puts out the aroma of Fresh Baked Bread...
The place is small but has several areas outside to sit and enjoy your slice of heaven in the form of baked goods.
Definitely would go again and definitely recommend to all visiting in the area.

This is the only place Team Powers goes to eat while in St. Augustine! We’ve been to more expensive and fancy places here, but why hope for a decent meal and be overpriced just to lunch?
My new philosophy is Bakeries have the best fresh fast food!
I love their empanadas... choose beef,chicken, or veggie. Cubans are made just right.

We had lunch here visiting while visiting St. Augustine. It was delicious! I had a beef empanada and a sausage dog. Both were very delicious so before I left I got a sweet potato tart to go. I had that later for dessert and it was very crispy and a sweet potato tasty.

November 19, 2020, Would definitely eat here again! I rode my bike downtown and was looking for an outdoor place to accommodate my 2 little doggies. I was in the mood for a Keto salad. The Spanish Bakery is tucked in sort of behind Whetstone Chocolates on St. George St. I ordered their 1795 Salad and added Shrimp Salad to it. Big chunks of real baked ham, not deli sliced ham, lots of tomato, cheese and fresh greens . It's normally served with a fresh roll, but I declined the roll. It was delicious! Would definitely recommend and I would eat here again!

If you are ever in st Augustine you have to visit here for a sausage in a blanket . Or one of thier other amazing dishes we have stopped here every trip since I was little and it’s still amazing place to get a bite . Outside seating and very quiet off the Main Street . Take a break and have a great meal you won’t regret it I promise highly recommend

I’ve been coming to the Spanish Bakery since I was a kid. The patio area has changed, the interior layout has changed, but the food has NOT. Still the same amazing empanadas that I enjoyed back then. They have the most amazing bread you’ll ever have the privilege of tasting! Get yourself a chicken empanada with a side of beans and rice. Don’t forget to get a loaf of bread to take with you. If you’re coming on a weekend, go early because they do sell out. They open at 11!

The food was so wonderful we went two days in a row and parked in a tow zone just to run over to get another Cuban sandwich. The bread is amazing so light and fluffy. Definitely recommend!

Gotta try the Cuban sandwich. Blk beans and rice are delicious. Fast and friendly service and they have fresh breads. Nice and soft. Yummy 😋

Didn't get to eat there because it was closed when we got there. But definitely on my return another day.

Loved the chicken caprese sandwich delicious! My friend and I split the sandwich and glad we did - it was plenty! Lots of cheese and the pesto was the best!!! We will be back 😊💗😊

We needed something tasty and fast and this was the perfect spot. We received Quick and friendly service and both the beef and chicken empanada were good. Hot sauce complimented it perfectly. The maple cinnamon roll was the perfect follow-up to the empanadas.

Hidden gem in St. Augustine. You could walk right by this place 100 times and never see it. It is on St. George Street near the north end but tucked away in a courtyard behind Whetstone's Chocolate.
I'm a local and have been coming here as long as I can remember. The fresh baked bread (and I mean fresh - it comes out every half hour) goes perfectly with a small bowl of picadillo and rice or the chicken and rice soup. They have meat or fruit empanadas and fresh baked pastries.
It's one of the only remaining bargains in the ancient city. They keep their overhead low with courtyard dining.

The Cuban sandwich and rice beans were amazing! Prices were reasonable, and staff friendly. We saw on site that they only took cash....but they accept credit.

Super delish! We had the empanada w/ black beans & rice, stupid good! Followed up with the maple glazed cinnamon roll, so yourself a favor a get it.

Just stopped in for a snack, and I gotta say, those $2.50 chocolate chip cookies are pretty unreal for the price.
