Loved it. Super clean room (except for the used Clorox wipe left in the bed stand drawer - but it’s a Clorox wipe, so hey), extremely comfortable bed, the elevator was a wonder; friendly staff, rockin’ pub downstairs (no noise bleed from it or the nearby trains). And the sign is, simply, the best ever. Stay here.

Very nice historic building, it has many old exhibits. The front desk guy was very friendly and allowed us to go through the whole hotel except for the rooms. We really liked it

Am I the only Westerner that thinks about Montana the way I do? A long lost kinship forged from blood sweat and tears. I wish I was born here. Don't you? This hip slick and cool Hotel reminds me of the hole in the wall hovel some of my favorites writers first spread their literary wings. Hotel on top, barfly on the bottom. Make this historic hotel part of your Livingston experience. Don't tell anyone but I hear it's haunted.

Wonderfully preserved/restored historic icon. My room was affordable and surprisingly large, comfortable and so nice I hardly wanted to go out and enjoy Livingston. Staff was amazing.

Be aware, convenience-sticklers, this hotel was originally built to accommodate visitors arriving by train, so there’s no onsite parking. But downtown Livingston is still pretty accessible and I had no problem finding a place to park.

PS: Jimmy Buffett loved to stay at this hotel.

I probably see the Murray Hotel every day as someone who lives here in Livingston; however, being able to actually stay the night in a historic room and see Livingston from a completely new perspective was truly a great experience. 10/10! Thank you to the awesome staff for being so welcoming and accommodating.

What a pleasant experience! The accommodations are exceptional, the beds are very comfortable, the place is extremely clean, but most of all, you feel like you are stepping back in time to learn the history of the old west and the expansion into the mountain /valley area. We were a party of six and had one of the suites that had two separate dbl beds and a pullout couch. They even offered to give us a roll away, but we fit comfortably with what we had. And the location to all the eateries/bars couldn’t be better. We recommend highly!!!

If you're looking for the newest rooms with all of the amenities then look elsewhere (but you will be looking for a long time in Livingston).
This is an old hotel but is clean and holds a lot of charm. We unexpectedly had to stay the night here and we're fortunate we did. The staff was great in accommodating us and the history of the hotel was a lot of fun.
Close to downtown you can walk for breakfast and enjoy your time.
Will definitely be staying again.

This hotel was a very cool experience. Over 100 years old! They are keeping it up very well and are actively doing some repairs so they are really caring for the building and keeping the tradition moving forward. Their elevator is only used with an employee operating it. But I don't think they mind. Stairs are fine to use when you don't have your luggage with you. We were in rm 325. It was their 60s retro room. Very cool mid-cemtury modern furnishings. I liked being able to write out my postcards at the kitchen table. Would be a great place to play don't gin rummy if we were staying there multiple nights. But alas.... Just one night for us. One tiny complaint..... The AC was struggling.... We were told don't put it lower than 69°. We didn't.... We kept it at 70°..... But let's just say if it was a steaming hot August night..... It would have been pretty tough to sleep. Guess that's it. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you Vickie for your hospitality and being a wonderful person to take good care of 2 travelers who came to stay at The Murray last minute and unexpectedly. They enjoyed their stay and loved the hotel for its vintage charm, western decor/antiquities and the fabulous elevator.

This is a great historic hotel with a staff that is friendly and professional. There is a bit of train noise at night but the location makes it worthwhile. The rooms are comfortable and reflect the history of the place. Great cafes and brew pubs nearby, too. This is one of my favorite hotels worldwide.

First accept that it's an imperfect 118-year-old hotel, then lean into it's character and historic charm. The elevator is manually operated by the staff and an experience in itself. The rooms were spacious and we really enjoyed the rustic decor. We are huge fans of their pet-friendly attitude and found their rate very reasonable. The location is convenient for walking downtown, finding tasty eats, and doing a little shopping. The one inconvenience is the proximity to the train tracks across the street. The hotel offers ear plugs on the bedside table. I'm not sure there's much else they could do. But there are definitely various trains throughout the night. We just turned the fan on to drown out the noise a bit. We were exhausted from the day and managed to get some good rest.

If you’re looking for HBO and 24 hour room service try Bozeman or even Jackson. If you want history, authenticity and a taste of Montana that you’ll never forget I’d strongly recommend this spot. If you can swing it and it’s available book the Peckinpah Suite. Don’t worry, even though that room is amazing the rest will still make you feel like you need a bottle of bourbon and an extension of your stay. This is probably what Château Marmont felt like before LA was ruined.

I had the most amazing stay here!

The ambiance and history oozes through the walls, hallways and rooms and it's a magical combination of the best of the past and the present.

If Livingston is a human body The Murray feels like the heart of it. Also in the heart of the city which is nice for carousing about town.

Friendly living history. The hotel is just such a fun experience. The location is fantastic in downtown Livingston. Close walk to food and drink.

The rooms were clean, the folks at check in and on the phone were really friendly, and we had a great experience.

The rooftop has a lounge area we can watch the trains or smoke cigars and stare at the mountains.

The hotel has plenty of old photos and does a great job explaining the history.

My wife and I stayed in the Peckinpah suite in May for our anniversary. Great staff, hotel, room and town. If going through Montana, you have to stay here and---splurge on the Peckinpah suite it is well worth it!!!

Super cool experience if you like old stuff. It felt like it might be a little loud if we had gone during a busier time. That doesn’t bother me, but it’s something to consider if it does you. Hard floors were everywhere! But, it’s worth the experience & the staff is just amazing. Take an extra moment to figure out a fire escape route in a building like this. Kudos to those who’ve done the design and renovations necessary to get the accommodations - like everything in the bathrooms - up to snuff. I’d definitely stay here again.

The Murray values it’s clientele by communicating frequently before arrival. So we were not surprised by no-breakfast due to personnel shortage. They made up for this small inconvenience by giving super service. They say it was just a coincidence but they gave us the Sam Peckinpah suite with two bedrooms, 2 baths, a huge living room and full kitchen all decorated in beautiful Western antiques but updated. What a treat!
A stay here is a visit to history but modern conveniences are included. The many plush live plants alone are worth a visit. The best thing, of course, is the people here. So helpful, even printing our boarding passes for us for our flight home.
We will tailor our next visit to Montana to include a stop to The Murray.
