Great Blue Heron Viewing Area

This place was soooooo cool! It was super easy to find and so fascinating to watch. The herons were chattering up a storm and flying in and out of their nests grabbing food and more nest supplies. The babies were hard to see but they were definitely there. There are great trails to walk along as well. Such a cool experience!

Just park on the wide paved berm and look across the street. You can even watch them from your vehicle if you're disabled. My favorite time to watch them is before the leaves are on the trees and the Great Blue Herons are working on their nests.

Such a wonderful experience. The day I visited, there was a couple building their nest. Such a heartwarming sight seeing nature at its best. Check with the Cuyahoga Valley national Forest administration for the best days to visit as the season might yield different opportunities. There are powelines in the way, but you can get clear pics from the right angles.

Amazing spot to see the great blue herons! It was so cool to see so many of them in the nests and the adults feeding their young. Don't forget to bring binoculars or a camera with good zoom so you can really see them.

Great experience to watch flying blue herons. They are very busy to build nests!

Can easily pull off the road and view the herons. Bring binoculars! We saw roughly 10 nests with Herons in them; some with fledglings, all in 1 tree.

I have never seen Great Blue Herons nesting before, and I loved learning about them.

Been going here for years. Although the storms last year took down an entire tree full of nests, the herons have rebuilt quickly and it is still amazing. Right after sunrise in spring, u can hear all the babies. These herons are amazing. Also, after u are done viewing them, u can go right around the corner to the beaver marsh and enjoy woodpeckers, king fishers and yes on the occasion and actual beaver.

Loved it. There is a great pull off area so you can get detailed pictures if you have a good enough camera...

Extremely cool sight in the CVNP. It is very rare for herons to nest in such an easily accessible area. From spring to mid summer the birds are nesting and raising their young. Our whole family enjoys watching them and there are sometimes park educators who offer additional info or a view through their sporting scope. Truly a unique educational experience.

This is right along a road & hence provides easy viewing.
There are no bathrooms here but some are available in the park before this destination.

We go almost every early spring. 2019 is great. So sweet watching males display by flying in circles with branches that they deliver to females beak-to-beak on nests. Incredible viewing.

Sweet environment to see blue herons nesting and fishing for meals!

If you go at the right time, a person is there with a spotting scope and you can take pictures like the one below of the birds in their nest. There were babies in the nest but their heads didn't pop up for me.

Great place to see the Herons! Will definitely be back in a month or two, when the babies will be hatched. You've got to hear the sounds all those babies make!

We had an amazing time watching nature's beauty! We sat in the back of our SUV during the midst of COVID19 and had a coffee and took in the site! Stunning!

Saw 4 deer down below the trees and probably about 10 Blue Heron birds in their nests.
