Neat little museum in Canajoharie. Prominently featured are paintings by Winslow Homer. A copy of Gilbert Stuart's George Washington is also in the museum. Several works depicting the Mohawk Valley region are are also presented.
The museum also does a nice job with the history of the Beech-Nut factory. Featured are ads displayed from the 1920's and 1930's. Along, with the history of Beech-Nut the story of the Arkell family is provided. Also, photographs and stories about working in the factory.
The museum does a good job presenting information for each painting as well. Rotating galleries are also a part of the museum. The exhibit on "granges" in New York State was interesting.
Museum is fairly priced and staff is helpful.

Wonderful space , small in size , elegant presentation and very good light on oil paintings. I just would have liked to see a general panel with an overview of American or European sources of inspiration with some analysis and comparisons .

Wonderful museum with world class art and items from their very interesting local history. There's also a beautiful baby grand piano in the gathering space which visitors are allowed to play! I did and it was a glorious experience. Thank you!

The Arkell is such a hidden gem. While it is very small compared to most, if you enjoy Homer, this is the place to be. Just off I 90 it's an easy stop.

Had a lovely visit. Beautifully set up to provide insight into NY history & the Beech-Nut foods story. Most exhibits, the snacks, museum shop, library & restrooms seem to be accessible to wheelchairs. Parking's just 200 feet out front.

The Arkell Museum & Library is amazing. Such a small town hidden gem. The staff is absolutely incredible; helpful, accommodating, and good above and beyond. The facility & grounds are beautifully maintained. The library is larger than expected and has a great selection. I could spend hours here!

A beautiful collection of art. They have several Winslow Homer's on display, as well as other american artists. There are two galleries that change throughout the year as well, featuring exhibits from all over the country! I really enjoy this museum. It's small, but it packs a lot of inspiring and interesting information. I highly recommend you visit!

The staff is also very friendly and courteous. There's a small snack/coffee bar and cute gift shop, too!

Worth the Stop! Wonderful museum with beautiful masterpieces from Winslow Homer. Learn about the history of the Beech-Nut company and it's influence on the community. An easy stop right off the Thruway. It is the perfect way to break up a long trip. Grab snacks at museum shop. Read to your kids at the Public Library (which is housed in the same complex). Museum staff were friendly and helpful.
