Frieda's Cafe

I stopped here for lunch on a Tuesday and it’s a classic diner, the type of place I love. FIRST AND FOREMOST, THIS IS CASH ONLY! I forgot to check before I ordered and had to run to an ATM to pay my bill.

I can honestly say I have not been to a restaurant that has more reasonable prices than Frieda’s Café, it was CRAZY to see in 2023. These are throwback prices to the early 2000’s.

I ordered the BLT Sandwich and fries, and it was really good. The BLT was not large as you might expect for the price but was a good sandwich. It had several pieces of bacon, and everything was really fresh. The French fries were crinkle cut and very good.

The service was good, considering every seat in the place was taken. The food came out quickly and it is a very clean establishment.

I will definitely be back when in town. This has to be the best value for the dollar I have ever seen.

Loved this place. A small classic restaurant serving American food. Roast beef specials burgers and sandwiches. Baffled how they do it. Time warp inflation free zone. Better than fast food and beats the price. Ridiculously good service. This is the way things should be. Bring us more of these types of places and kill off the chains.

You won’t leave hungry. And also you won’t fill the landfill with waste and leftovers that you overpay for and throw away. You actually have room for desert AND can afford it! Come on less than $1.50 for homemade cake? You betcha.

This buisness is one whose owner is doing the community a service and I love to see it! Food was great also, prices amazing, service efficient. You don't come here for shenanigans, you come here to get good food! Reminded me of my childhood diner Mikeys downtown Saint Paul 😭😭

We happened to be in Willmar to drop a load off nearby. Luckily, we found Frieda's Café and the stellar reviews. Not knowing it was cash only, we had to run to an atm, a block away.

First, selection and price points were an anomaly. I attached a photo to prove it.

Secondly, Amy greeted us and was also our server. She took the time to answer my question about the origin of the spot too.

*Frieda, the original owner came from Germany. She and her husband acquired it in 1990, keeping the structure, style, good food and NAME.

Hash browns were on point! You know I love crispy ones right off the top. Eggs and bacon also cooked perfectly. Pancakes and sausage on L's plate super satisfactory. Definitely what you want in a smaller town diner.

Highly recommend! Will return for sure (with cash). 😊

I'm a better person after visiting Frieda's. Seriously. Nicest people you'll ever meet. Most personalized service I've ever received. Great prices. And homemade Apple Crisp! It's a shame I live 1,200 miles away, or I'd visit every day.

Great spot for diner fare. The staff was about the best I've encountered and a steady stream of customers waiting at the door, mostly locals, tells me I've found the place for future meals when in Wilmar.

We drove 2 hours to have breakfast here, based on an online review site. It was worth the drive. Best breakfast I've had in a long time. In fact, next year when we drive to Yellowstone, we're going to go 30 miles out of our planned route to start the trip with breakfast at Frieda's.

This small hole in the wall cafe is local legend in the Willmar area. A simple menu with delicious breakfast and lunch foods. Seating is limited so not the place for a big group and they do not take credit cards.

Frieda’s just got a remodel but the food is still consistently great diner style eats at value pricing with fast and friendly service! Frieda’s is a little gem you don’t want to miss!

All the other reviews are spot on! One piece of advice, get there early for lunch if you want one of their specials. We went at 1:00 and 2 of the 3 specials were gone. We ordered the third, chili. Holy cow! It was delicious tons of flavor and just a little spice. Seems like so much food now is spicy but not flavorful.

Pancakes are huge and delicious!
Burgers are small, but ordering a double is still cheap.

Always a pleasant home style meal, and at a decent price with a smile. Always worth the better tip!!

What a fantastic, quaint place! Great food, friendly attentive service, and unbelievable prices! I had the bacon eggs toast and hash browns for breakfast and everything was cooked to perfection! And at unbelievably reasonable prices! (In California prices are about double of Frieda’s!)
I can’t wait return and try more of Friedas delicious fare and hospitality!

Like it's stuck in time. $1.65 for a cheeseburger! .50 cents for coffee! And it's good food!! $4.00 for a double bacon and cheese burger and it's better than Culver's! Great breakfast. Amazing pancakes. They only do breakfast and lunch. Cash only. It's super small so you might have to wait for a table but it's worth it! So happy we happened to be driving by and decided to go in.
