Red River Valley Museum

We dropped by on a road trip from Houston to Denver, and what a marvelous surprise! Museum director Sherry Yocum was very accommodating and knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed this experience! It was one of the most beautiful wildlife displays we have ever seen. You can see wild animals at the zoo but you can really get up close and see the texture of the fur, the colors, it was incredible. Big quite a display of indigenous peoples tools found in the area. They also had a great deal of information on the history of the Red River Valley in their Museum which was located in Vernon, Texas. BEAUTIFUL!

I was in the area for the day and found this place. Like so many museums in small towns, the museum is an eclectic mix of things that more or less represent the area and what you might expect. If you are interested in Texas history and the famous cattle drives in the second half of the 19th century, you need to come here. This museum is great for school age kids and adults alike. The young lady docent was very helpful and welcoming.

Loved this place! Went by myself and had a great time. The ladies here were so helpful, informative and nice.

If you are a hunter, I can not express how great the William Bond exhibit showcases animals for all around the world. The Waggoner exhibit is full of Western history. All at a bargain price.

Awesome little day trip. Give yourself at least 2-3 hours to explore. The exotic animals were really cool.

The Red River Valley Museum was an unexpected and delightful GEM! Highly recommend. The exhibits were well laid out and informative - they rival the quality of a much larger museum. I had no idea the Vernon area had such a rich history. The staff was knowledgeable and readily available. Cooper, our tour guide, was especially helpful. Thank you!

You talk about a hidden gem. We stopped in just to see what a museum in seemingly the middle of know where.
We were just going to run in look and see for about a half hour....2 hours later we said we were coming back.
Have not seen anything so complete with animal mounts from across the world.
Polar bear was over 8' tall....

I have been going to this museum since I was a little girl and it only gets better. This little town cares about its history in a big, big way. Love going there! The volunteers take their jobs very seriously and will make sure that you get the most from your visit.

This was awesome museum my family of 6 loved it !!! Was worth our time. The lady was super nice. She knew a lot and was really patient with my 5 kids..

Very nice facility and well done presentation of artifacts tracing the contributions of notable people from the area's rich history. Guided tours with storytelling is available and recommended.

Nice little museum that has info on local families and businesses. Some excellent artifacts from the area. Very friendly, knowledgeable employees!

This museum has so much to see and is so educational and the updates on how you learn about the animals now is awesome. The format is brilliantly done

Shockingly good museum in the middle of nowhere. Definitely covers good portions of local history. If you are in Vernon, then it is a must-see.
