The Old Country Store

This place is the real deal. Best fried chicken and every side dish you love from the south. The peas and beans were also the star. It’s a don’t miss if you are in the area. It’s quietly world famous. And the manager sings to you as you pay your bill. What could be better than that?

Fantastic southern fried chicken and food served buffet style. Mr. D and the staff are very kind and war; hope to be back! Definitely worth stopping in if in the are (or even making the trek to eat here!), in such an interesting, converted "old country store" with old time collectibles all over, in a large, airy dining area.

This was my second visit to The Old Country Store with 5 years in between. As with any spot like this, you're coming for the venue and the food.

The setting, building, and people are more than worth the stop. We were mid week lunch for this trip and traffic was light and Mr D wasn't there this trip. However, the people working were fantastic and the vibe remains great.

The food - All of the food I had on both trips has been good. All seasoned well, the selections are very traditional and welcome. While everyone talks about the fried chicken, I enjoyed other items just as much (yams, cucumber and tomato salad, cornbread dressing, hocks and greens.)

The Chicken - When fresh out, it is very good, almost like a cracker crumb crist, moist throughout and tasty. Pieces are also on the larger side than most spots.

As with any buffet - traffic dictates turn. When we first arrived (wednesday lunch), the chicken hadn't been refreshed, was good and moist but lacked some crunch as you would expect. About mid way through lunch, they called fresh chicken and it's worth the wait.

Would I drive out of my way for the food alone? probably

Would I for the overall within an hour of my route? yes

If you get within 50 miles of this place it is worth it. Perfect Southern comfort food in all categories, Mr. D is a delight, and this place is an experience, not just a restaurant. Amazing buffet!!

His mamma was a cornbread cooking queen. This man who makes the best fried chicken in the game. The owner starts singing about his story and there family business

The best fried chicken I’ve ever had! Also the peach cobbler is phenomenal! The owner Mr.D sang us a song as well! The nicest people and the coolest things on display for sale. Definitely worth going!

A buffett that feels like home cooking. Definitely some of the best eating I have had in a long time. Would advise anyone in the area to stop by for lunch. Great food and good people.

We’re driving the Blues trail and this was recommended as a place we needed to stop to have some real fried chicken. And we’re glad we did. Delicious fried chicken and the rest of it was awesome too. Really cool restaurant building too.

Mr. D was very gracious as a host as we picked up our food and returned to our table. He came to our table and talk with us and then sang to my wife, a wonderful man and the best fried chicken.

I love this old place. It was my birthday Saturday and we drove 2 hours just to come see Mr. D and eat. He sang Happy Birthday to me and the meal was wonderful as always. Great customer service. Thank you for all of your hard work staff. Great job. Highly recommend stopping by. Good ole southern cooking and charm.

This place is wonderful! Well worth driving out of your way. Hope the owner is there to sing to you !!

We were greeted by the best hostess in all of the Mississippi Delta.
She sat with us and drew some of the finest artwork around. I've been to fancy places all over the world and never have I been gifted artwork drawn as I ate some of the best chicken, potato salad and blackberry cobbler I've ever had -next to my grandfather's of course :)

Chicken, Chicken, Chicken..... Probably some of the best fried chicken in the South. The atmosphere and the service is great.

Mr. D. knows how to cook and his servers are great.
I once drove 3 hours to get 50 pieces of chicken for a family reunion. It went first. Never a regret. I did call ahead for my order as I didn't want the people dining in to be shorted.
It's my favorite place for a well rounded meal in Mississippi.

The ribs were perfectly smoked. The fried chicken was juicy. The cabbage had the best seasoning. This is a great stop on the way to the Windsor Ruins or Rodney! Old Country Store is Southern in the best way.
