We really enjoyed our lunch after Swamp tour. Rice n beans was delicious. It was a nice treat to see gators as we ate.

Amazing food with a beautiful view. We had the red beans and rice, red fish, and fried crab. Everything was delicious, and the waitstaff was very friendly.

Menu was on point. Delicious drinks, appetizers, and main courses. Crab cakes were exceptional in taste, ratio of lump crabmeat to other filling, and well paired with remoulade/home made slaw. Window seating offers nice view of the bayou and the restaurant's resident gator.

Great food and great entertainment! I had the Redfish Marcel with a side of chicken and sausage jambalaya, then the Creme Bruleé for dessert. I got to try the turtle soup (very yummy!), the red beans and rice, as well as the alligator stuffed mushrooms, and the crab cakes with angel hair pasta. All of it was REALLY good! We also got to watch a couple of alligators and some wading birds interact with one another just outside the windows while we ate. This is definitely a hidden gem that is off the beaten path, but well worth the trip out of town!

Not only is the food wonderful, but the view of the swamp on a sunny early afternoon is spectacular. At least two alligators, great white egret, little egret , great blue heron, turtles, giant snails. Wonderful.

Loved everything about Des Families. Our waitress Jamie made feel like home. Jamie was very down to earth and friendly. Food was a 10 and the alligator outside was very entertaining. Loved the cajun music playing in the background. Reminded me of my childhood, my grandparents played french cajun music. Thank you to Des Families and Jamie for making my birthday dinner so special.

We stopped here after we went on a swamp boat tour. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding but what made this place stand out was the view!!!!
We sat along a tall wall of windows that overlooked part of the swamp. During dinner an alligator swam down the canal and hung out the entire time we were eating lunch. It was definitely a pleasant surprise!

A fabulous restaurant located outside of New Orleans.

Our friends brought us here after we did the swamp tour. We had never been to Louisiana or New Orleans, so restaurant recommendations were welcomed. What was even better was a local place outside the hustle and bustle of downtown and very much a place for locals.

I had the shrimp po boy and a side of jambalaya. Sadly I have no photographic proof of this.

I can say the po boy was delicious, light golden batter and the bread was a delight. I didn’t except anything less, but it’s always night when the food is as good as or is better than one expects.

If you are in NOLA, but want to venture to a place where the locals go, in a wonderful location away from the craziness that downtown offers, this is more than idea.

This place was AMAZING! We did the Jean Lafitte's Swamp Tour and decided to eat locally afterwards. And I'm so glad we did! We had amazing service from Ashley D. I am a huge Caesar Salad person, and this restaurant's recipe by far is the best I've ever had. The creole mustard is a key component. I added fried oysters to the salad which were large and succulent, perfectly fried golden. We also had the crab cakes which were loaded with lump crab meat and not bread filler. The sauce and slaw paired very nicely with them. The view of the bayou was absolutely gorgeous through the wall to wall of giant viewing windows, with some local wildlife making occasional cameos. We will definitely make the trip back down to Lafitte just to eat here next time in New Orleans. Thank you to the staff for being so friendly, courteous and talkative! 🐊💜💚💛⚜

It's a fine dining experience among the alligators.

I had the boudin stuffed chicken which was very good. It goes great with hot sauce, so make sure to try at least a little dollop as it really brings out the flavor.

The white chocolate bread pudding is amazing and is almost as good as the creme brulee.

Service is very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere and the view can't be beat.

We walked here for lunch after spending the morning at the Jean Lafitte national park. The restaurant is really clean and bright with a lovely windowed seating area looking out onto the river. The food was incredible and the portion sizes were super generous.

Fried catfish: 11/10 good breading, not greasy, not very fishy. The best fried fish my wife has ever had.

Jalapeño & cheddar grits: 7/10 good but not much jalapeño flavor.

Soft shell crab sandwich: 10/10 delicious crab sandwich with a nice remoulade. The crab had a lovely texture and flavor, and the dish also came with a mountain of fries.

I loved my experience here. What an absolutely gorgeous setting on the bayou. The restaurant has floor to ceiling windows so you can really soak in the magical view. The food was equally impressive. The crab gratin was so delicious, as were the BBQ shrimp w grits. My friend also said the jambalaya was the best she's ever had. This may have been the highlight of our trip to New Orleans.

Delicious meal. All the food was good, but Turtle soup was amazing and great views of alligators and birds from the huge windows.

Want to watch alligators while you dine on one? Want a fried oyster poboy so delicious it makes you tear up? Don’t like seafood, then get the chicken parmigiana! The largest, crispiest, most tender and juicy chicken breast served up perfectly with pasta and sauce. It was all great, our waitress anticipated every move, and we did, in fact, watch the gator the whole time we ate. Recommend the bbq shrimp and grits, the poboys, soft shell crab, all of it really.
