Yes, finally an endocrinologist that listens to me and just doesn't give orders.

I realize that I have type 1 diabetes and this will never change but in the past I was a patient of Dr. Vera in Daytona Beach. I would have to schedule a WHOLE DAY off of life for an appointment with his office. I would have to mentally prepare for this appointment. He would always bring up the worst case scenario, always submit me to testing that day in his office to where I thought I had more complications, always brought up my deceased father (a previous patient) and would ASK IF I WANTED TO END UP LIKE HIM. I would never get told WHY I was getting random tests done (on my heart, my liver, my thyroid, ect.) just to do them. There was never an issue on any of them throughout the years but the last and final ultrasound I had on my thyroid. His office failed to notifiy me of the nodules I had on my thyroid and I only found out when requesting medical records to become a patient of Dr. Shrestha. I was PUSHED to buy HIS VITAMINS and get labs done in HIS OFFICE that my insurance did not cover.

Here is where things change.

Dr. Shrestha was one of the only other endocrinologists available in my area so I said why not, it's time for a change after 13 years. My first appointment went flawless. I told him my concerns of nodules I had on my thyroid and he attempted to get imaging done THAT DAY. I did not have to wait in the waiting room for more than 10 minutes, even as a new patient. I was used to close to or over 2 hours wait previously with Dr. Vera.

This endocrinologist DID NOT PUSH PUMP THERAPY on me, even though I was already on one. He supported what I wanted to do with treating my diabetes. He did not force BRAND NAMES down my throat. I use a Tandem G4 pump and he accepted that fact, even gave me some information available in his office on the history of the brand (he had informative guides on several different companies). In contrast I was shamed by my old Dr. for using Tandem and was nearly forced to use MiniMed, a company which I used previously but did not enjoy. I use a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) by Dexcom and this Dr. and his staff ASKED ME before just taking it and downloading my glucose information. I really appreciated that because I was just used to a suggestive open hand and placing it in. Finally, this doctor understood that after 13 years of my life I knew how to regulate my basal rate, I knew how to adjust my boluses and sliding scale. I was not some toy or guinea pig to play around with my dosing. He asked me based on my body and history if a change was thought to be needed and what I thought that change was.

He did not send me for random testing but asked questions to see if their could be anything else that needed to be monitored. I was having a stomach issue and he referred me to a GI have it looked at.

I am thankful I have an endocrinologist that listens to my needs as a diabetic and what is actually going on with me. Not every patient is the same and he understands that.

Needed an endocrinologist to help with some bloodwork concerns. The physician instead spent 10 minutes telling me he was upset because he bought his kids a movie with a bear on the box only to find out it was the movie "TED" and was not for children. When I went to the pharmacy to pickup medication they questioned it because he prescribed "bed wetting" medication, which I clearly did not need.
He did not care to listen to my problems/concerns and when I mentioned the prior medication I was on made me gain weight and I was not interested in that he prescribed phentermine (which is not safe).

Highly do NOT recommend this doc.
