The room (bunk twin for 2) was a bit cramped but good for the price. Our room had no fridge. The view and location are great! The staff was friendly. One thing to note is the bathroom wall is frosted glass and somewhat see-through, so make sure you’re comfortable with the person you’re rooming with.

Had an awesome time here. Very convenient location about two blocks away from the closest subway station. Very friendly, helpful staff - especially Juan (hope that's how you spell it). As I arrived here NYE, Juan gave me some helpful advice on what to do here in NYC.

Would happily stay here again. Small but cozy room. Might struggle to fit in luggage if two people

The only reason for the 4/5 for rooms, is that it is under renovation.

Incredible value for that price. The rooms are new and clean, they have a big TV with Google Chromecast and the river side rooms have amazing views. Everyone at the reception was really friendly and they helped us whenever we needed.

*The hotel is currently in renovation so only one elevator works out of the two (it will probably be ready at the end of this year).

Pros:
-Cheap
-Close to subway
-Really clean

Cons:
-It might take some time to catch the elevator if it’s pretty busy (will be solved once the other elevator will be opened)
-The shower head is wall mounted
-The car noise outside can be pretty disturbing for some during the night

Observations:
-I don’t know if this applies to every room, but we didn’t get a toilet scrubber
-The AC randomly turned on once during the night

Overall really really good hotel, will definitely return.

It is a hotel only for sleeping. It has comfortable rooms although with limited space. The lobby person is very friendly. They could consider: 1) offering water and snacks in the lobby; 2) place a small stool to sit on in the room, where the television is in the bunk bed room; 3) the bathroom floor - bathtub - is slippery. You could put something to prevent falling. Overall a good place to stay and close to the park.

Excellent service, great value for the money. Their renovations are almost finished.

I was there working with the windows but it seemed like a nice cool place to rent a room

The room was great! It was definitely an improvement to the previous hotel we were staying at.
There was free on-street parking nearby. The elevators were a bit small but still worked well. We were able to stay in two rooms for the same price of just one room in another hotel. Each room had two beds, but one bed is under the other one and needs to be pulled out. Which is fine.
The two rooms we stayed in were connected by a bathroom, which was nice. We were able to move freely between the rooms but still had privacy too.
I think the only downside was how small the bathroom was. There was a toilet and a small shower and the sinks were in the room itself. But it had its own charm.
Definitely would stay here again.

As I write this I am staying at this hotel and just finishing up a long day. I feel comfortable and safe and am ready for a good night’s sleep. Before booking this hotel, I had my concerns, especially with the negative reviews I have read, but now, sitting here in my private room (my daughter and I have a suite) I am glad I took the chance. The hotel is old, very old, and, unfortunately, worn and dated. It gives an extremely poor impression upon your initial arrival. I recently moved from New York City, leaving a beautiful condo and the incredible soul of this amazing city. I came back to New York for a short two day trip and wanted to stay in Manhattan, in an affordable place, and this hotel was $150 cheaper for my two day stay than the cheapest hotel in the city (other than a hostel or a room with a shared bath). Being used to nicer accommodations, our first impression was VERY scary - especially the hallway leading into the room and the old-fashioned keys. When entering the room we were greeted by old wooden furniture in a tiny room with a single bed and a sink right in the middle of the room. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed and worried we made the wrong choice. The two rooms of our “suite” were joined by a bathroom and one of the rooms has a small fridge and microwave. The bathroom has been remodeled and is also tiny but very clean. After getting acclimated, we left the building and strolled the beautiful surrounding neighborhood and had the BEST pastrami sandwich (and pickles) ever at Zabar’s, just two minutes away. Upon returning, we now had a different impression of the room(s) feeling that the quaintness offered charm and character (and a little privacy). Our experience of the beautiful and safe surrounding area made us appreciate the value this hotel offered and felt that, as one other reviewer said, this hotel would be much pricier if they modernized the rooms. Yes the plumbing is old, yes the walls are thin, yes the furniture, vanity and bedding is dated and the carpet is worn but the hotel is very clean and comfortable with no signs of insects or rodents. The fridge and microwave are a nice touch and, if you’re a TV person, the Samsung flat screens will keep you happy. The room doors lock automatically but do not have a secondary top lock or deadbolt like most hotels which may be concerning to some but we still felt safe. The paint on the baseboards is scuffed/old but we found no signs of filth or mold. Obviously we would rather stay in a more modern, larger room but the Riverside Tower is a great place for a short trip to NYC when you’re on a budget! Don’t let the low price scare you - the money you save on your room can be spent on some good times in the city! I was going to give it 4 stars but the staff in the lobby are upbeat, positive and very helpful, so 5 stars!!

I loved this hotel, it has a great location and it has really comfortable rooms. The rooms have great views overlooking the riverside park. You have a supermarket on the same street to buy grocery. I don't know why people gave it negative reviews. I think for a 2 star hotel on this location with this price is superb. If you're visiting Manhattan and want a excellent budget room, I highly recommend this place. Furthermore, the staff were really kind and rooms were always serviced when I came back to the hotel.

This was the most reasonably priced stay in New York I could find that wasn't a hostel. I stayed in a single room and it was definitely small with a tiny sink and bathroom, but it was plenty of space for my needs! There is a subway stop only a few blocks away, and the neighborhood was safe and beautiful. I wasn't concerned at all walking back to my room late at night. The hallways and rooms were definitely dated, but that didn't bother me because of the price. The front desk gave me information on catching the bus to LaGuardia (very convenient from the hotel as well), which was very helpful! It was also great to have a small fridge in my room. I would not hesitate to stay here again on future visits!

I wasn't sure what to expect since it's way cheaper than other hotels here but I was pleasantly surprised. The location was great and in a safe area. The staff was very nice. It's small and older but was great for the price. I loved the New York feel of it. I would definitely recommend it and stay here again.

Small but very clean. Perfect stay. In a great location, close to bus and subway routes. Yet off the beaten path, so nice and quiet but easy and fast to get anywhere else. Loved the staff. Perfect place to lay your head before hitting all the usual tourist haunts.

Great location, sits 3-4 blocks from Central Park that overlooks the River. Honestly, it's not the best place, and with the size of the rooms, you get the authentic New York experience, but at rates $90/night, you really cannot go wrong. It is clean though. I went for nightly walks around the neighborhood, it's really safe. Also, it's about a block away from the subway so that's an added bonus.

When I was there last year, I met an elderly couple who always stays at this place when they come into town. For the budget traveler who wants the privacy that a hostel can't offer, this is a must.

If I were to come back to NY, I'd stay here again, especially for the money.

Cons:
-Our rooms were small, (but we didn't come to NY to stay in our room). -Bathrooms were smaller.
-And oh yeah, Riverside Tower, home of the smallest elevator ever. I'm not kidding, you need to see this.

Pros:
-but seriously, property is convenient to everything needed...stores, food, subway, shopping, and even a nice park across the street when you need a break from people.
-friendly, helpful staff
-zero problems with anything
-clean and tidy
-quietly tucked away

We had a room for 4 separated in two by the bathroom. We had a great time and no complains. BUT do not stay at the lower floors, there is a very bad smell and the rooms are not renovated. Hopefully we had the chance to change floor

Love it, is not a luxury hotel but clean and neat. The staff is great and the location is a plus. 3 blocks down the natural history museum and 5 minutes on the metro to Times Square. This is my hotel next time I will go to NYC

Old hotel in a good neighborhood on Upper West Side. Close to Central Park & American Museum of Natural History. Not luxurious but it is inexpensive and in a quiet area. Views of Hudson River. We stay here regularly and it works well for us. Rooms have mini fridge and microwave.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here. It's in a perfect location for the subway and local attractions. Our room was small but had everything you need including a fridge, a microwave, free WiFi and freeview tv. Plus the staff are friendly and very accommodating.

We live in Montana, but our daughter lives on the upper West side. We always stay at the Riverside Tower, and have for years. In the rare case that we don't get reservations in time, and they are full, we feel really bummed. It feels like home to us. We love the location, the vibe, and the people running it. Highly recommended.
