Erected in 1875 to honor the fallen of the 77'th Regiment. The '77' was chosen to commemorate the 1777 Battle of Saratoga. The statue originally stood in the middle of Broadway near the intersection with Congress St but, due to the increased automobile traffic, was relocated in 1921 to it's current location in Congress Park. An interesting and impressive military monument with a long history in the area.
