I had a great experience visiting Tom's shop. He was very hospitable and welcoming. I was able to try out an original instrument that he had crafted. The workmanship was beautiful and of extremely high quality. The shop was very organized with many quality instruments to choose from. Thomas did fine work installing geared tuners on my fiddle and repairing the separated back on my 100-year-old Gibson mandolin. Highly recommended for expertise and for the quality and timeliness of work.

Tom was super helpful, he let me try out a variety of guitars and play for a while. It is cool to see his workshop setup through the glass.

Though it’s hard to find(Downstairs), but it’s worth-going. Guitars are terrific!

This shop in its attractive new location, owned and operated by Thomas Dunn, is a real gem of the capital region. In an area with a respectable amount of fine musicians, but very few places to maintain instruments, Sixth Generation Strings is a vital cog in the musical realm. I have personally known Tom for many years, and he has proven to be a kind, knowledgeable, and talented luthier. If you are a classical musician, or guitarist, this is the shop to go to outside of NYC and Boston.

Thomas Dunn's music shop in Saratoga is a must visit for anyone interested in violins, violas and cellos. But, it's more than just a shop ... it's a place where he makes instruments that rival some of the finest, in my opinion. Tom in personable and enjoyable to speak with on the subject. I wanted to get a second opinion about my Cello and what it needed. Tom was very kind and informative! I also wanted to try a few instruments while in the shop and he was very helpful finding celli in my price range. There was a beautiful selection of instruments. I'm an adult beginner and had a lot of questions which he patiently answered. He is passionate and skilled at his work! I will definitely be back in!

Tom has done great work on my instruments. He is very experienced and has established a really nice shop that’s conveniently located. I highly recommend the shop if you are looking for quality repairs, upgrades, or even commissioned string instruments!

I’ve had a lot of great work done on my cello over the years in addition to replacing my old tailpiece with Nick’s. Both Nick and Tom are extremely knowledgeable, and they go above and beyond with all the careful work they do. I wouldn’t want to bring my cello or bow to anyone else!

I had my violin in for some regular maintenance.That was all good, but Thomas Dunn did a very masterful job in making adjustments that really brought my fiddle back to life!
