The Jane was a gem, despite being under construction when we stayed in May 2024. I stayed with a friend in one of the bunk bed cabins for a week. This was the first time in NYC for us and the location was GREAT. Many attractions and subway lines are very close, and the neighborhood is a treat too. Lots of great places to eat, have coffee, and just enjoy some brownstones and birdsong. The room itself had a lovely warm design and I would say it's very much like a luxury sleeper car on a vintage train. The bathroom is shared with other guests, so do bring sandals for the shower and maybe a lightweight housecoat, and a bag with your shower supplies in it. I actually PREFER a bathroom away from my bunkmate. We're friends, but it's honestly more practical for the toilet and shower to be down the hall. YES the entire hotel was a construction zone, but progress requires action, and the EXTREME affordability of The Jane made the rest of our NYC vacation POSSIBLE. The staff were lovely, and I enjoyed hearing the workers figuring it all out in multiple languages. I look forward to returning when the work is complete. To the owners and staff of The Jane DON'T GO CHANGING! - the prices too much. And THANK YOU!

It was interesting, under construction and no haunted experience.
Old school hotel I enjoyed it.
I just didn’t like the bathroom it was down the hall not in the room.

The room looks like a train compartment. The room, although small, is very cozy. The only thing is that the windows do not open and when you sleep, the room becomes very stuffy.

I actually stayed some years ago but I really loved it here and will definitely return when back in NYC. It was very unique, charming and comfortable with a lovely cafe to have breakfast. I had heard some ghost stories and have to admit I think it’s haunted though I won’t go into why on here. Supposedly ghosts of Titanic personnel who escaped the sinking and stayed here after it happened still live here. Experience for yourself ! Very close to some lovely river walks where you can take pictures of the Statue of Liberty 🗽.

The location of the Jane Hotel is great and it's a very reasonably priced hotel for the area. I loved being near the Whitney and the Highline and being in the village. When staying at the Jane Hotel there was construction going on. It didn't really impact the experience overall. We stayed in one of the double rooms with a bunk bed and shared bathroom. As others have said, the bathroom was clean and the rooms were quiet. So it served it's purpose as offering a place to sleep in an amazing neighborhood.

This place is a knock out! Hotels in the surrounding area are often much pricier. It may have a bit of "charm" that comes when refurbs aren't as often as the chain hotels, but on each occasion I have stayed at the Jane Hotel, I have had a room that met and exceeded my expectations for cleanliness, quality, comfort, and amenities. Additionally, I find the lobby incredibly fun (there are monkeys everywhere!) The staff--- in matching red bellmans outfits remnicent of the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles and the (now defunct) Tower of Terror at Disney's Studios in Orlando--- checks you in to your room in front of an old style bulleton board / mail board. This hotel is among my most recommended for a traveler on a budget in New York City.

Currently under renovation, so lots of the communal areas are not accessible which is a shame. But the overall charm and character of the building is amazing and so unique that it could never be replicated.. It feels like you're staying in a movie set, warts and all.

Location is fantastic. A safe and trendy area a few blocks from the Friends apartment building. Plenty of independent coffee shops and bakerys near by. Chelsea market is a couple of blocks north.
My advice for anyone travelling on a budget is to rent a Citi Bike. The cycle paths are very flat and safe. You can cycle to Times Square or lower Manhattan within 20 minutes from the Jane Hotel.

Shared bathroom. Always clean, and the showers/toilets are locked rooms, so you feel quite private as its not an open cubicle like a public restroom.

Bed was comfortable. My only other feedback would be that I didn't need to use the air con, but when I did turn it on to see if it worked. It was very noisy (definitely couldnt have slept with it on)

But overall I'm so happy I found this hotel, and if I'm ever in NYC again it will be the first place I check for availability

Comically small rooms with a unique style. Shared bathrooms only but we only once experienced a wait for the shower. Staff are very friendly. Apparently haunted but we never saw any spookiness. Stay for the history, quirkiness, price and great location. Mattresses aren't the most comfortable hence 4/5 stars.

Have stayed here over the years and always love it. You can't beat the price, and if you're running around the city you just need a clean simple place to rest your head. The shared bathroom is fine, you get a robe and slippers. And, if you feel like splurging, get the bigger room. I stayed once and had a courtyard and massive bathroom. Also has huge history. Totally recommend

Stayed here in 2019 with my son, in one of the bunk bed cabins with a shared bathroom. We liked it so much that I brought my younger son last week. He’s only 5 so I got us a captains cabin with its own bathroom…can’t handle that shared bathroom with a small child. Perfect location, our room had a gorgeous view of the Hudson River and the hotel is right by the Pier 51 water playground. The only thing I didn’t like is that there isn’t any housekeeping service. But I still give five stars because of the rates, atmosphere, and location. Would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is such a gem! The location is great, right next to the Hudson River and The High Line - but what makes this hotel even more incredible is its undeniable charm. Before booking I read a review that said this hotel is like something straight out of a Wes Anderson movie. That describes it so perfectly. It's classic and unique. Every staff member I encountered was extremely helpful and hospitable. I couldn't be more pleased with my stay here. Everything is very well maintained. This hotel really made my New York stay special. Highly recommend!

The Jane Hotel is a delightful historic hotel in West Greenwich Village. Stepping into the foyer was like stepping back in time to the early 1900s. The hotel room was small but lovely. I loved the woodwork in the room, and the feeling of being in a cabin on an old ship. The bathrooms were very nice. The hotel and room were very clean. The roof top bar has an amazing view of the river and the city lights. A nice extra touch was that some of the reception and housekeeping staff wore uniforms of early 1900s hotel staff. The hotel was convenient to the Metro and buses. It was close to an amazing selection of restaurants. The riverside park and walk across the street were lovely. It was great value for the price. I stayed here for three nights in September. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe. I would stay here again.

I've been remiss on leaving this review for The Jane, following my stay right before Christmas 2022. I'd stayed at the Jane some years back in a bunk room and had a great experience, so I booked it again for a late night arrival into NYC for my son's first visit to the city. He loves scary things in general and the hotel has some ghost stories associated with it, the accommodations are charming and clean and affordable, and I say that with high standards, and the neighborhood is incredible and a great launch point for great walking all around downtown.

Now, for what made me so pleased this visit. We ran into some issues traveling and had to switch arriving airports, though our luggage did not. I phoned to let the hotel know we were arriving late night, always nice to do, and caution there was a small chance our bags could precede us. They took notes on the pertinent details and were very courteous on the phone. I arrived with my exhausted pre-teen late into the night and my luggage hadn't made it and thus none of our clothes had either. The staff at The Jane made the situation so much more comfortable than it might've been and surprised us with an upgrade to a king bedroom with ensuite bathroom. It even had a smaller-sized bathrobe waiting for my son, which was a darling touch. The next day, they also went above and beyond to stay in touch when the bags didn't arrive until early evening.

I honestly didn't think to count on The Jane for that level of hospitality from the staff, since I feel like guests already get a lot of value out of the interior design and architecture, the cleanliness of shared spaces and rooms, and the location, but they came through and really helped change the tone of our short trip to NYC when things went awry with our flight. 5/5, will 100% book again!

I have stayed at the Jane 3x. Twice in the small cabin while on solo trips where I was absolutely happy with the cleanliness of the room and the shared bathrooms for the price, and this last time in the Captain's cabin, which was pretty amazing. The room had 3 windows and 2 AC units, a king size bed and a lot of character (as well as a private bathroom, alleluia). It is my understanding that not all Captain's cabins are the same size and shape so I might have lucked out here but every time I go, I meet friendly and helpful staff and I have a good experience. I have read all the reviews mentioning bed bugs but I can only go on my own experience which is always positive.
The location is good too, as you get to be in the Meatpacking district which is very charming with its rows of townhouses and cobbled streets, multiple interesting restaurants and it's close to the water's edge, so you can see the Statue of Liberty from your window. About a 10 min walk from the subway.

My only negative is that they now offer room service (outsourced from another restaurant) with a small menu that you have in your room, yet when we went on the app to order half the menu wasn't even there (probably because it was the middle of the week and not a weekend) but still, that was a tad disappointing.

Stayed here in 2019, so this review is not the most current but it was overall positive. Shared a little bunk bed room with a friend. We loved it! The rooms are so unique! If you are someone who doesnt like small spaces though you may feel claustrophobic. It was quiet and we rested well. The shared bathroom was fine, it was clean and there were lots of stalls so no long wait.

Comfortable, clean, and low-key hotel in an amazing location. Okay, shared bathrooms, but also extremely clean and I never had to wait for a turn. Quiet, good window... Really, if all you need is a place to sleep in NYC, the Jane is a prime choice. I would be happy to stay here again.

The value to price comparison at the Jane is one of the greatest of any "budget" hotel i've ever stayed in. If you go in with the appropriate expectations I think you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised. I spent about $100 on my 1 twin bed private room/shared bath for a night and it was perfectly comfortable. It's a bit of a walk to the nearest subway station, but you're steps away from the west village and some incredible shops/restaurants/etc. The shared bathroom situation is not nearly as daunting as it sounds - I've stayed in a few locations with private rooms but shared bathrooms, and the Jane was one of the cleanest/best stocked.

The front desk folks were very helpful and polite.

If you want a 5 star hotel, go spend 5 star money. If you're a solo traveler on a budget looking for a decent place to crash for a night for a low price, this is your spot.

Certainly quite extraordinary, despite also being remarkably cheap.

You can tell you're staying at a historic place, with unique decor overall and the rooms feeling like sleeping cabins on an old-timey train. They are admittedly tiny, but still somehow pack all the amenities (AC, TV, plenty of storage, etc).
There's a small cafe, and of course the bar (The Jane Ballroom) is plenty famous on its own, with people coming from all over the City on weekends.
The shared bathrooms are fine - mostly clean and not too busy - the staff are pretty cool, and the location in the middle of Meatpacking and close to the West Village is great and anyway not too far from transportation.

The only problem was that the hallway for some reason smelled atrocious - like one of those subway cars of which everyone steers clear - but fortunately the smell didn't get into the room, so it wasn't too much of a problem.

I absolutely loved this cool hotel! I stayed in the captain’s cabin with my teenage daughter for three nights. Great price, and we were very comfortable. Loved sitting in the cafe before or after we ventured out. The historic charm had us feeling like we were in a Wes Anderson movie or Clue! Nice touches throughout considering how affordable it was. Only a block or two from High Line and short walk to Chelsea Market. Walked across the street to see sunset on the river! Will be back!

It is really neat to be able to step back in time and experience this place that is over 100 years old. Bunk rooms are extremely small and could be an issue if claustrophobic. Bunk beds are smaller than twins and difficult to share. Shared bathrooms and showers felt safe and were always available. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Close to Citi bikes, subway, Chelsea Market and the High Line.
