Great campground, the road in was a little on the rough side and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous about getting stuck towing a trailer and all but we did fine in the end. The lake is not much use for fishing from shore but with a canoe or small boat or something there are some fish to be had. That said I certainly understand that there are better fishing opportunities readily available at other spots nearby. It is a very pretty location. Large campground with lots of sizeable spots and it was pretty quiet in the fall when we were there.

(Summary: Beautiful and peaceful during the week, much more crowded on the weekend.)
My husband and I camped at Pigeon River State Forest Campground and came to Pickerel Lake twice during our stay. The first day was gorgeous: blue skies, quiet lake, peaceful kayak. The water is so clear and blue! We spotted a bald eagle flying overhead as we were kayaking. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to come back the next day (a Saturday). The lake was still beautiful, but unfortunately much more crowded and noisy. A giant inflatable swan took your attention away from the natural beauty of the lake. On another trip up north we stopped by again and did a little fishing. My sister caught frogs for bait along the shoreline and caught a few fish, but we didn't really catch anything using worms. It was warm and the water was again very clean and refreshing. We walked some of the trail loops on the campground and the sites seemed fairly nice.

Great place to camp and go for a dip in the summer. Shallow lake not meant for gas powered boats but waters real warm in July.

Some excellent sites with decent lake access, many decent sites. Boat launch. Seems well-maintained. Road from main drag washboard in spots. Lots of owls heard. Didn't fish, so can't comment

Great rustic campground. Few spots in the roads need some gravel and grading, major gopher holes drive very slowly in the low wet areas. Did not get to see or hear any of the elk. Hopefully next time.

Nice campground. Very rustic. No electricity, running water, etc. The lake is crystal clear, and the lots are a good size.

Pretty and quiet campground. The lake here has a nice swimming area. Boats with motors are not allowed on the lake and makes ir peaceful. Its is fun to kayak! Campsites are 15 dollars per night.
