Black Currant Bakehouse

Came here while taking a leisurely drive up the Red Arrow Highway. To start the interior is very cool! The vibe is on point! So are the staff, they were excellent, especially with their recommendations. My fiance and I split the namesake Black Currant Donut. It was so pillowy and delicious with that black currant frosting! I could buy a whole dozen of them! And then we split a piece of the salted caramel cheesecake. That was a darn good cheesecake! Great flavor and the texture was wonderful! Would definitely return here .

Found this neat coffee shop on a road trip. My cappuccino was pretty good, and my SO's black currant tea smelled like fresh pie, she really liked it. The apple fritter we split was insanely delicious, hands down the best part!

We had Black Currant supply an assortment of desserts for our wedding 11.11.23 and I cannot rave about them enough. Working with Katie was extremely pleasant and she even worked with us around our guest count to not order too much. We had a 1 tier wedding cake, brownies, and assortments of cupcakes, donuts and crumb bars. My only regret from my wedding was not eating more desserts in the moment because I was busy dancing! Luckily, the venue wrapped up the leftovers so my husband and I got to enjoy it all the next day. We couldn’t resist saving wedding cake for a year and decided to eat our cake now then go back for our anniversary to the bakery and have a fresh piece of our wedding cake.

This place is nothing shy of amazing! We live in Michigan City and couldn’t find a bakery you could just wake up and go to. Much less finding this gem. The have the absolute best coffee, the donuts you can tell with how fluffy they are with the perfect amount of sweetness, and the people are great. We weren’t rushed when trying to decide. We were welcomed. We were thanked. You guys have given us a memory with our little guy that will hopefully become tradition. I never knew this place existed and I’m happy we found it. Great job!

Hubby and I were passing through on a road trip. We stopped at Black Currant Bakehouse for donuts but they were out by the time we arrived. We decided to try the Lemon Cornmeal Cookie and the Sprinkle Sugar Cookie. They were both AMAZING!! Some of the BEST bakery cookies we've ever had. Good taste and texture!

Black Currant Bakehouse is cute with friendly staff. The prices are affordable, and they have a pretty large bakery menu, as well as sandwiches.

We highly recommend this bakehouse and if we're ever in the area again we will definitely be stopping in again.

What an adorable little bakery! This is our second time visiting the area and our first stop here. It will NOT be our last. The apple fritter was hands down the best one I have had to date. The young lady who helped me was so kind. She picked me out a stellar apple fritter that was huge and had lots of fresh apples! We even had some laughs, too! I can't wait to come back to this adorable establishment!!!!!!

We hired them to make our cake and donuts for our wedding. Now we have our guest from all over the country asking if this bakery ships their pastries. Everything we had was amazing. Great service!

There will probably be a line, but the pastries are worth it. The grilled cheese is also delicious, and it comes with potato chips, which makes the whole thing better.
Good service, very kind people behind the counter.
Just a few tables inside and eating right outside is not an option! Take away is the safe bet.

They have REALLY great coffee as well - got a drip coffee with milk and sugar, and it was just what I hoped (I’m very picky with coffee as well, for what it’s worth!)

Making it a point to try all the vegan baked goods I can find within a 45 minute radius of South Bend, and this place has so many yummy options! I tried the vegan cinnamon roll, cinnamon coffee cake, and scone. Everything was delicious! Will definitely be back!

Amazing little bakery! Anything from the coffee, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, doughnuts are definitely worth the wait.

I usually grab a few gluten free muffins and some donuts for weekend guests. But my favorite is the chickpeas salad sammich on Gluten free bread! Yummers

Fresh, tasty, vegan sandwiches! First two pictures with the hand in it are the BBQ seitan sandwich that my meat loving husband got. It was so good he wouldn’t let me try it until last minute. 😂 I hate fake meat, but even I found the seitan to be so delicious! I got the chickpea sandwich. Both tasted great! The menu had us worried these were bland, boring, or heavy sandwiches. Not the case! Very flavorful and filling without feeling heavy. They also had the right level of moisture- they were not dry and not sloppy wet. Mine had a savory flavor profile- not the least bit sour. The BBQ had more depth to its flavor profile with savory, sweet, and mildly sour. I highly recommend this place! Their croissants were delicious and were comparable to European quality. We also tried the black currant chocolate cupcake. I liked it and found it to have a lot of berry flavor (but I’m a super taster), while my husband thought it was bland and he couldn’t taste the berry. We both liked the Apple fritter. The last thing we had was an iced mocha. It was not too sweet, nor did it have that fake syrup flavor that a lot of mochas sometimes get. This leaned more towards a coffee flavor without being super bitter. It was pleasant!

To say the desserts at our wedding were a hit is an understatement. There were ZERO leftovers, how many weddings can say that?! The small cutting cake for us to share at our first anniversary, the cupcakes, cookies, and mini donuts were all delicious. I’m sure we will be back before our anniversary I don’t think I can wait that long!

Black Currant Bakehouse is a must every time we go to Michigan. It's really nice having such a delicious place offer gluten and dairy free/vegan options.

My husband and I visited while on vacation and got the chickpea salad sandwich and garden veggie on gluten free and both were great! My personal fave was the chickpea salad as it had some really great flavor! It’s always nice to find gluten free vegan options, I would definitely go again!

My favorite Michigan bakery/coffeehouse. Best Spiced Mocha and baked goods in all of SW MI. Don't mind the 30 minute drive from NWI every once in awhile to treat myself to any of their bakes goods and a coffee.

I’m sitting here right now, 20 mins into my first ever visit. I had a raspberry danish- wow. Wow!!!! It’s January , but the danish made it taste like summer. Gorgeous pastries everywhere. If I’m ever back in Lakeview, this will be THE bakery to go to.
