Truly worth a stop. Not as crazy as other things in the greater dells area, but great history of one of the men that helped the beauty to be admired. The stereo photos and interactive video tools are nice. Walking through the old lab and shop are truly inspiring.

Excellent museum if you wish to have exposure to the history of Wisconsin Dells and what made it famous in the first place. Excellent staff as well, highly recommend a stop in!

As my wife and I are members of The Wisconsin Historical Society, we get free admission to the museum, but even if that wasn't the case, it would still be worth the cost of admission to take a walk through this incredible collection. If you are interested in photography like I am, there are interesting tidbits around every corner, and even more so when you get to the studio part of the self guided tour. The original HH Bennett Studio is preserved in its original condition, including the office, studio, and darkroom. The manager, Dave Rambow, is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the studio, and also uses tin type plates (aluminum actually), to make images in the studio. Dave prepares the plates and develops them right in front of you. Even if you aren't big into photography, the tour still gives you a good history of the Dells as well.

I didn’t know what to expect going in, but it was a wonderful experience. The photography was outstanding. The museum artifacts are very interesting.

Love the history about the Dells and his pictures of the upper Dells before the dam was built. I would recommend this.

What an incredible experience for my family. The history was fun to learn and the knowledge of the staff blew me away. Their photographer took a picture of my family and it was a real tintype, right onto metal! In a city full of waterparks and fudge, this was a breath of fresh air to have my kids learn some history and have an awesome portrait. I plan to go back!

Didn’t go in for the museum/tour part but it was nice to look around the shop and see the different poster’s of H. H. Bennett’s work and Wisconsin Dells history. Especially the famous leap photo and the photo of the doggies attempting the same jump.
Definitely a good place for memorabilia compared to the other touristy souvenir shops around.

Great museum to learn about the history of the area and a chief promoter of the Dells in the early days. Admission is a bit steep for what it is, but it's by far the most educational museum in the area.

This is an absolutely underrated piece of history I think many people don't know about. I loved it! I like that it was huge and drawn out and boring. It was exactly what u went to see short and sweet with a TON of emotion and historical facts. A+++

I have seen other reviews indicating that this is a great place to visit if you are a photographer. I disagree—It is so good for all to visit on so many levels. The hisory and beauty of the Dells is so evident in this museum. Also the way of life of the people of this era. The section on the lumber man and what they had to do for their living is remarkable. Also the section on the Ho Chunk Native Americans who lived in the Dells tells so much about their lives and Culture.
The fact that Bennett’s studio is preserved is amazing. He was a true genius as an artist and inventor.
The Staff is very knowledgeable and open to spending time with guests and answering questions.
I would highly recommend this Museum to all and the cost is minimal

This museum is doing some really cool stuff! They have outdoor walking tours and a self guided indoor museum tour. They also have a tintype experience where the site director will "strike" your photograph on a tintype and explain the entire process! As part of the Wisconsin Historical Society, this museum explores the history of Wisconsin through the story of a man and his family living and working in Kilbourn (Wisconsin Dells). I would highly recommend this place to folks looking for educational, or history centered entertainment in the Dells.

Great collection of Bennett's art and the actual equipment he used. While we were there one of the employees was taking pictures with period cameras and developing the tintypes and glass plates while we were there. Very informative and extremely well done, highly recommend adding this stop to your visit while in Wisconsin Dells.

If you want to learn about the history of the Dells area, I highly recommend this place. Everything that has taken place over the years is recorded and explained by friendly staff. On the Upper Dells Boat tours they talk about Bennett and how much he impacted the area so it was great going in and learning more.

Fascinating museum of photography and geography of the Wisconsin Dells. It is an oasis for the cerebral visitor to the Dells and Lake Delton. Learn about how the Wisconsin Dells became a tourist destination in the 1800's that continues to draw millions of visitors a year. If you have any interest in photography, geography, or history, then this is the place to see. It works great to see the museum and take a Dells boat tour to see the actual location of the photos taken by H.H. Bennett. It's worth a stop in the gift shop, but tour the museum for the full experience.

The museum is small but filled with priceless artifacts, including a walk through his photo studio.
