Driven past this coffee shop for years but today I decided to stop in. What an EXPERIENCE! Reminds me of a coffee shop we visited in Zanzibar. Had a café au lait with Guatemalan coffee. Wanted something different and it was so good. The barista was amazing. He was more than willing to explain to us the different coffee beans and their unique tastes. He also explained how they roast their beans in-house! Will definitely be back.

Hands down best coffee in the city. They roast their own beans and they really know what they're doing. Quality ingredients, and well made drinks. Some of the best espresso I've had outside of Europe, the barristas know what they're doing. Many of them have worked their for years (they keep employees, which says something). The granola is fantastic, and I LOVE the cherry almond scone. Comfy chairs, great ambiance, cool regulars. Its by far my favorite place to get coffee in the city.

Coffee is coffee, , right? Hmmm, maybe not true. I travel regularly between Colorado and WI and have yet to find coffee as expertly and finely 'crafted' as EVP's. It is so remarkable in quality in my opinion, that I have it shipped 1,000 miles rather than settle for the over roasted (burnt flavor), bland and characterless coffees I have thus found during my travels. Bear in mind that flavor is in the taste buds of the beholder, but after over 8 years I have found none better. It is much like comparing beer in some respects, One can drink the grocery store brands or one can go with a micro brewed craft ale and thus it is, in essence, like comparing colored water to a rich and flavor crafted ale. So too the analogy applies to the uniquely flavored EVP coffees. My go-to varieties are the Sumatran, Bali Blue Moon and Expresso Blend, and find blending among varieties yields additional flavor experiences. My advice to EVP's roasting technique is the old saying "it ain't broke, don't fix it". A truly quality standout product.

The coffee is great, the store is a bit grungy - if you like it like that. I’m not a fan of their sweets but I got for the lattes and the beans.

EVP is my go to coffee place. I treat myself once per week here and love it. The staff are nice, down to earth and know how to make a real drink.
This location can get busy, and the staff handles the lines with ease and the customers never seem to mind when there is a wait.
It's a homey little shop.

EVP has a great vibe, the service is always very quick, and it's overall everything you'd want and need out of a small coffee joint. The bathrooms are clean and you don't have to ask the employees for a key. There's a surprisingly large selection of pastries, which some go quickly, but there will usually always be something for you to satisfy you craving. The prices are also pretty cheap, relative to other coffee places. I've also always had an easy time ordering from whoever's working at the time, they've always been friendly and willing to chat, though I've never actually tried to strike up conversation, just seen it. Now the only downside to this place is that during peak hours, it may be a bit hard to find a seat, especially with an outlet, but they have outdoor seating which is a plus. For Madison coffee shops, this place is one of my favorites. Just remember that if you pay with card to verbally add a tip before they swipe/insert your card!

Loved my iced decaf latte (almond milk)! Service was friendly and fast. Atmosphere is chill and relaxing. considering it's right on E. Wash the traffic noise isn't too bad! Thanks. I will return when I'm in the neighborhood.

The best spicy mocha cappuccino in Madison. Really my favorite coffee and it is just slightly less expensive than all of the others but it's better. So I just keep coming back over and over again. The wait is not long and the atmosphere chill and cozy. I have had different Baristas and they are all wonderful and kind. A Madison local must.

Just around the coffee - great friendly and knowledgeable baristas who know how to make coffee. They have long term employees so it is nice to see the familiar faces. Depending on the time of day the ambiance is anything between mellow and overly-packed. They roast on site the best ones IMHO are "Camp Fire" and "Bali" but you can only get Bali a few weeks out of the year. The afternoon soup and house made bakery is surprisingly good, old school Madison vibe.

I'm a big fan of EVP. It's out of my way, so I only stop there if I'm in the area, and I'm always pleased. The interior is what I'd call perfect for a coffee shop. It has big windows, yet it doesn't feel bright inside. It makes for a very cozy feel. The coffee is always perfect, and this will remain my go-to coffee stop when I'm on the near east side.

Literally the only place I ever get coffee in Madison, both beans & brewed. If you like strong coffee there's nowhere I've been in the world that compares, so now whenever I go out on the road I stock up on beans! For me the lighter the roast the better, so with that in mind I highly recommend the Tanzanian Peaberry or any of the Ethiopia roasts. 5 stars!

Best coffee on the near east side. The high quality at EVP comes naturally and not with the ultra hip atmosphere many shops go for these days. Nice art on the walls, plenty of characters come through all the time, good for reading, studying, chatting, debating. Dogs welcome!

This place was great. It was super quiet when I was there though so that was mildly uncomfortable. The prices were way lower than Starbucks and they had a dairy free milk option for me which was really great. Staff was friendly and our interaction was brief which was honestly pretty ideal

The ONLY place I will purchase coffee from in Madison. Seriously. Once you have had the best, you won't want the rest! I'm not kidding! Really great folks working there from the neighborhood. Try their cinnamon rolls... Mmmmm.

Go here on a Saturday morning and have nick make you a latte. Industrial feel shop and nice freshly roasted drip coffee! They tend to over roast their dark roasts but their Africa origins are always good.
