Beautiful and not crowded. Prepare for mosquitoes and bring plenty of time to enjoy nature.

Went out on a friends boat and spent the day by Alcatraz island. Great sandy bottom. Plenty of friendly people. Was easy enough to be off to the side and play with the kids. Alot of people accidentally beaching their boats, which is always humorous.

Truly BEAUTIFUL protected area ... but make no mistake, Castle Rock Lake is the attraction here. If you're boating, you can beach and enjoy eagle-watching and solitude then take off before the mosquitoes get bad, in-season; or anchor in the extremely shallow water off of Little Alcatraz and schmooze with other boaters in the shadow of the Buckhorn.

Or drive in from the landside, and canoe the shore/inlets or hike in and camp the night. We have family on the lake and have enjoyed watching the many Bald Eagles that nest & hunt all over this wildlife area and often hit the neighboring Shipwreck for a meal or drinks.

A day on Castle Rock is potentially one of the very best ways to spend a day, anywhere - but avail yourself of Local knowledge before you set out. We're easy to find at one if the local joints, shops or stores - or hanging out at one of the little beaches that are hiding all around the perimeter of the lake. Have fun while enjoying SAFE boating!
