KVR Campsite PP

I camped here last night after an evening of exploring the KVR region under a dark, moonless sky. KVR is located in one of the darkest regions of SW Wisconsin and its numerous campsites, trails and river access areas make it a wonderful place to combine enjoyment of the outdoors with the enjoyment of the nighttime sky. I pulled into site PP well after 11:00 pm so I didn't get a chance to see it in daylight until I woke this morning. It sits in a natural bowl area bounded by hills on all sides, which increases the feeling of isolation and helps to keep the modest light-domes of nearby small towns at bay. To top it all off, you're sleeping about 10 paces from the most delightful babbling brook, which winds right around the campsite. I fell asleep to the stereo sounds of running water. The two attached pictures were taken right around midnight. Just simple 25 second exposures with my Canon DSLR, f/2.8, ISO3200. The skies here are amazing!

PS. when I woke this morning, I found the site was as gorgeous in the daylight as it is by starlight. There was a ground-hugging fog which added to the beauty.

West ridge trail and Ma & Pa trail launch point. Very enjoyable hike! The campground is also well maintained and clean. Permit requires. Running water spigot and nearby stream.

Close to road, but also to some nice Kickapoo creeks and forest
